From what CaliGirl9 and I can find on the net, it appears Peru does NOT have the death penalty. Accredited press indicate the Peruvian prisons are horrible….no commodes…you poop in a hole in the ground.

Chile does have an extradition treaty with Peru, and since there is no death penalty on the table, (to hold things up) we need a poll on how long it will take to get him in Peruvian custody.

As van der Sloot is a Dutch citizen, we also have to wait and see if the Dutch government will attempt to run any interference!

    Oh, I’m sure they will….

I posted this at Sprockets as well:

Have you seen that the US District Court Northern District of Alabama Criminal complaint against Van der Sloot.

Apparently he tried to extort money in exchange for saying where Natalee Holloway’s remains are and what happened.

    He is a sick sociopath.

Yes, the news is swirling and churning! Supposedly that investigation started 6 weeks ago.

Have to say it will be a while before the dust settles.

Yes, I don’t know why they waited to file the charges. We will have to see what happens and hope for justice.

Tonight, I watched the coverage on the Nancy Grace show. Someone speculated that the federal extortion charges were the result of a sting. The authorities had someone contact van der Sloot and offer money for information about Natalie Hollways’s death. It seems van der Sloot would have been sought by the Alabama U.S. attorney if the Peru murder had not happened.

What I want to know about is all the talk about him checking out. He obviously did NOT check out of that room, if he had, it wouldnt have been registered in his name. The reason it took so long for hotel staff to find her (presumably by smell) was because he put a do not disturb sign on the door and left and asked that they not go into his room until he got back. Not an uncommon request really, especially if you have something in your room that you dont want hotel staff to have access to.

A report I just saw said that it was Beth Holloway, Natalie’s mother, who sent the fifteen thousand dollars extortion money to van der Sloot.

I saw that too. What a vicious sociopath – always taunting that family. I had a feeling it would be her. Good for her for bagging the scum. She may never know, because he will probably never tell, but the news of what he did to Stephaney must be killing her.
