Zahra Baker – Now Considered a Homicide

The sad case of this pretty, freckle-faced girl is unraveling so quickly into a horrific crime.  To maintain my sanity, I have to believe there is some divine plan – I don’t understand – that allowed this little angel to have such a difficult, short time on this earth.  If there truly is a heaven, Zahra deserves a front row seat!

* We learned Zahra was reported missing on Saturday.

* We know there was a mulch fire at the house at 5 a.m. on Saturday.

* We know police discovered a family SUV, supposedly doused in gasoline.

* We know police found a $1 million ransom note addressed to Adam Baker’s boss, Mr. Coffey, threatening his daughter and son.

* We know stepmom Elisa was busted on multiple, unrelated charges.

* We know the family moved to the house some six weeks ago.

* We know neighbors never knew of Zahra existence and nobody had ever seen her.

* We know cadaver dogs hit on both family vehicles and the search warrant show 3 swabs were taken from one vehicle which appear to be blood and 2 gas cans were recovered.

* We know from family members that Zahra was physically and mentally abused by the evil stepmom.

* We know the evil stepmom has admitted to writing the ransom note to Mr. Coffey.

* We know the Amber Alert for Zarah was canceled yesterday and the investigation moved into homicide mode.

As the investigation moves forward, we are learning more and more disturbing information.

Adam Baker works for a tree trimming service.  For the past 4 days, Hickory Police, SBI agents, Burke County sheriff’s deputies and search dogs were searching an area in Burke County for Zahra’s remains.

The land searched belongs to a foreman at the tree trimming company where Adam works. It is an area where mulch, wood chips, and heavy equipment is stored. Bobby Green, a former employee  says Baker would have definitely had access there.

Alvin Webb, who lives next door, told NewsChannel 36 a deputy told him a cadaver dog smelled human remains on a mulch pile and on a wood chipper on the property.

Burke County Sheriff John McDevitt confirmed that Adam Baker was on site with investigators. He characterized his behavior as “not exactly cooperative,” adding that, in his opinion, Baker is not being truthful.”

Donchais, thanks for the timeline. This case is so disturbing and it keeps getting worse. Let’s hope LE gets what they need today and charges are made no later than tomorrow.

Regardless of what happened, you should avoid emotive speech like “the evil stepmom”.
