Zahra Baker – Confusion Abounds

12/04/2010

Two days ago it was announced that the state appointed, death penalty lawyers for Elisa and Adam Baker were removed because no murder charges have been filed.  Now WBTV is reporting that Elisa Baker has cut a deal with prosecutors and the death penalty is off the table for her!  She still has not been charged with Zahra’s death, only with obstruction so far.

A local attorney, Bill Powers, who provides legal expertise, says, “They may have been in a position where they just didn’t have anything at all and they had to make a deal to at least try to find out whether she was alive or dead.”

It was Elisa who led police to Zahra’s remain which were scattered in two North Carolina counties.

Now that a deal has been brokered, you have to wonder what Elisa’s involvement in Zahra’s death was.  “What does she know? When did she know it? What is her level of involvement?”

WBTV has also reported Remains found match DNA sample (toward the end of the video) that police in two counties have said the stories of Zahra being raped by two men are NOT credible after they investigated the claims.

For all the horrific news about Zahra, I guess this is one bright spot!

So, what information has Elisa Baker given to investigators that led them to make a deal?  Will Adam Baker be arrested soon? How did young Zahra’s life come to such an abrupt end?

This such a sad and troubling case. I think Elisa knows full well everything that happened to Zahra including cause of death which she undoubtly took part in or caused. Adam is equally guilty, he knows what happened; I am wondering what his IQ is.

I agree that both of them know exactly what happened to Zahra!

Hi Donchais! I hadn’t heard that those rape allegations were deemed “not credible”. Thank you for sharing. It seems E & A Baker had to be doing something nefarious with Zahra given the way they cut off her contact with others…..they were hiding something. Thank goodness that allegation has been disproved. Why in the world was that information released to the public if it hadn’t been investigated…..something seems wrong with that.

Hi katfish, hope all is well with you!

I don’t believe NC has ‘sunshine’ laws as FL has, but I gather when the 11 warrants were released, they had to release everything. I was so upset by the rape allegations and was hugely relieved when WBTV corrected the information. Lord only knows how many folks don’t realize the rape allegation was investigated and proven not credible!

I fear we will still learn some disturbing details in the near future!

Thanks Donchais for asking, I’m ok. Goodness, I’m praying for strength for those whose job it is to investigate this case….I can’t imagine trying to sort through all of these lies, especially when the known outcome is already so horrific and final for Zahra.
