Dakota Lane – Blood Evidence

Aaron Laconsello is charged with first-degree murder in the November 9 stabbing death of Dakota Lane as well as with assault and battery of the boy’s then pregnant mother.  Dakota was only 4-years-old when he was brutally stabbed to death.

His mom, Stephanie Lane, was eight months pregnant at the time when she discovered Dakota being attacked and tried in vain to fend off the attacker. Stephanie Lane escaped without serious injuries.

The original story can be found here.

Laconsello’s attorney has requested that his own expert be present when the state crime lab tests the blood evidence taken from the home.  He also wants any blood remaining after the tests are completed to be given to the defense.

The blood was collected from a door in the home where Dakota lived.

DA Larry Moore argued the law does not allow the defense to be present when a state crime lab tests blood from a crime scene.  He also said all the blood evidence will likely be consumed by the tests conducted by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Numerous DNA tests from the crime scene already have been completed.

Special District Judge Robin Adair indicated a decision will be made next month, prior to Laconsello’s preliminary hearing which is scheduled for February 2nd and 3rd.

Stephanie Lane gave birth to a baby boy at the end of November.

Laconsello continues to be held without bond in Muskogee County/City Detention Facility.
