Casey Anthony – Running Out Of Gas

06/25/2011

August 2005 ~ June 2008

What can I say about yesterday?  I admit, by Thursday/Friday. I’m fairly tired and cranky.  This week was no exception!  The endless sidebars and proffers leave me yelling obscenities at the screen.  I can only imagine how frustrating it is for the jurors!

I’ve no doubt, somewhere in his mind; Baez believes he has a point.  What it is, who can say?  His examinations are scattered, rambling and frankly, he just doesn’t know when enough is enough and that’s why he doesn’t really score any points!

When he had Cindy on the stand and went on-and-on about the shorts and shoes, it was literally mind numbing and what did it buy the defense?

The only impression I got when Lee took the stand was, how terribly sad.  He grew up in the Anthony house – that’s all it was, not a home, just a house – feeling the outcast while watching the misfit Casey garner all the attention.

Love them or hate them, the Anthony’s are all broken people.  They will live out their days in agony; tortured by guilt and shame.  Part of that guilt and shame will no doubt be their ever-changing testiphony and memories that suddenly improve with time.  It’s magic!

The fun part the jury didn’t get to see was the bickering between Baez and Ashton regarding the infamous Dr. William Rodriguez!  No, the jury doesn’t even know Rodriguez perjured himself in his few short minutes on the witness stand.  The kicker, as we’ve learned, is Dr. Rodriguez got himself in deep doo doo with the DOD!  Yet another ‘gun for hire’ expert witness wannabe slithers back into obscurity!

Ashton says at 8:40 he was handed new information from Dr. Furton, who has done new research since his deposition that he wants to testify to. Particularly the odor issue.  He has a PowerPoint he just created on the chloroform using Rickenbach’s findings!

Yikes!  The defense does it again!  Their desperation has reached a new low!

Judge Perry is not happy!

Baez claims it isn’t new opinion. There is nothing secretive going on here.

Wowser!  Baez is out of control slamming Jeff.  Jeff is furious!  Lots of raised voices!

Judge Perry wants a copy of the report and says he has a copy of the deposition.  He says you think this would have gotten old by now, but some things never change!

Mason now asks for a sidebar on a totally different matter!

Casey and all attorneys head to chambers!  Somethings up!

Everybody back in court with the exception of Judge Perry!

Casey looks pretty upset and worried.

The attorneys and court reporter return to chambers.

Medina and Casey go to the holding cell!

This must be really bad and Judge Perry must be furious!

9:30 and the jury is still cooling their heels, they must be insane by now!

Casey returns at 9:34.

9:40 we get down to business!  A legal issue has arisen, other than Furton, which shuts the court down for today!

To me, the defense doesn’t look happy!

Speculation runs rampant!! A plea? Mason taken ill? Baez arrested for selling bad bikinis?

I think the defense tried yet again to get a witness on the stand and ask improper questions but the state is onto this ploy – since they have done it with every one of their witnesses to date – and cried foul, again

    Hey Kim!

Yup, the defense tried to pull another fast one with Furton.

Lord knows what the new legal issue is that arose this a.m., but it is serious enough that Judge Perry halted the trial for a second time! Oh to have been a fly on the wall in chambers!

Good Morning Donchais. Once again you hit it right on. I am still stunned and not happy (probably because I now have no excuse not to clean). Do you think any of this info will be available at any time with the Florida Sunshine laws or because it is behind closed doors, we will never be privy to this info? And why didn’t Mason bring it up at 8:30? I agree about the defense not looking happy. I did not get the same feeling from the prosecutors other than they looked solemn. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for report which I wait for every day at the end of the court day.

    Good morning, donchais!!

I am guessing but I think J. Perry is livid right now. What ever Baez tried to pull – with Mason’s help – is so not gonna fly. J. Perry is very conscience of his juries comfort and will not take this delay lightly.

Morning Jo! No idea if we’ll find out. I sure hope so!

Kim, I totally agree and if the defense looked so unhappy because the good Judge ripped them a new hiney hole, so much the better!

One thing Perry is good at is keeping the media out of the loop. He calmly lets us know “a legal matter has arisen” and that’s it. He is being Oh, so careful, as he knows he must.

We must leave it in Kathi Belich’s hand to find out what be happenin’

here I’ve been cooking dinners every morning for a week so I wouldn’t have to do later in the day. Let’s see crock pot pulled pork day 1, crock pot chili today – whatever will I keep cooking I can get in front of tv. oh well back on Monday. This could go well into July at this rate. Thanks for the updates donchais.

The State of Florida and their worthy attorneys, Linda Drane Burdick, Jeff Ashton, and Frank George haven’t pulled a fast one yet and I don’t think they would ever jeorpardize a case as important as this.

    That leaves?

  18. 06/25/2011 at 10:57 am

Does anyone think this may be juror misconduct? It would be odd for Mason to bring up, but it seems one of the only logical reasons, given the fact there were 12 witnesses ready to testify.

    OMG donchais!

Does JB think when he is flapping his jaws we believe what he is saying? LOL

Well, jokes aside, this is getting so old… Defense thinks the laws don’t apply to them, at least court orders for that matter! This is so sickening!

I just hope there is no mistrial

Prosecutor Jeff Ashton said he could not discuss what stopped the trial today or whether it was brought about by the defense.

I can’t imagine what went on in Judge’s chambers for Casey to look so upset, unless, some of Cindy’s lies have been un-veiled?? If, not, then hopefully soon.
donchais- again, thanks for the great write-up.

My good friend ritanita kindly shared the following tweets:

pipitone says he could hear Mason screaming at other def atty & kc. but not what he was saying

Pipitone says the defense atty’s were reading the transcript of what happening in chambers & were wide eyed & looked shocked
    Pamela

    MagpieFromHinky Pamela
Tony Pipitone is saying this was completely different. The atty’s came out of chambers with poker faces on. No eye rolling etc

Not teasing. Working by process of elimination. Rule out jury tampering and plea. Working on rest. #caseyanthony

    MarkNeJame
#JeffAshton just went to a deposition. Means case is still going on… = no plea. Ct. Reporter left means no jury tampering

  28. 06/25/2011 at 1:06 pm

I took a peek at HLN and they’re going on and on about how happy and confident Baez and Mason were when they left court. You’d think the defense had all but had Casey acquitted already. I understand these talking heads trying to be balanced, but they really act elated and put too much emphasis on the slightest win by the defense. I just don’t get it.

  29. Evelyn
    06/25/2011 at 2:36 pm

Wooodoggies, the jury must really be tired of this about now. And a waitng jury day after day almost never favors the defense.

  30. Nanny
    06/25/2011 at 9:35 pm

I was watching Casey’s face when she came back into the courtroom, this stare into space was different than the usual. She was also wiping her nose when she sat down. Makes me speculate she may accept a plea deal. Especially since Judge Perry has gone over what the charges are (several times!!).

  31. donchais
    06/25/2011 at 9:49 pm

Nanny, no plea deal…State didn’t offer! This appears to be an issue with the attorneys!

  32. 06/25/2011 at 11:34 pm

No pleas after a jury has been selected in FL… so that’s not it. I suspect that Bye-Ass has pulled his last ‘magic trick’ on de Judge and in the case and whatever the jr. attnys were looking google-eyed at on the monitors, it may be unprecedented in their experience and seeing as it is sealed, perhaps it has sealed Bye-Ass’s fate as well…what would make Casey cry, because the death of her daughter certainly hasn’t had that effect? Finding out that her Lead Attny and ersatz BF was getting disbarred? Naw… it would have to do with HER… like maybe realizing that she should have had Mason defending her?
Like the truth of this case, we may never know exactly what went on… but who cares? I just want this circus to stop spinning so I can do something else – unhook me from the drug of curiousity as to how it will end.

What if…the thing that Lee overheard was Cindy talking about “revealing” the chloraphyl/chloroform search. Lee goes to Baez, says he and mom are willing to hurt States case so KC can escape death. Baez jumps at the chance – tainted testimony follows, then Mason discovers that Baez has suborned perjury and he wants off the case?
Thats my speculation for the evening.

    Worn-out-Wilma,

OMG! I WENT TO THE EXACT SAME PLACE!!!!

    Here’s why.

First 2 minutes, Kathi and Bill discussed Lee’s testimony as maybe scripted http://www.wftv.com/video/28352247/index.html

Then watch Part 1 of yesterday, Mason looks annoyed from the get-go and it appears Baez is almost pleading with Mason not to talk to the judge!
    http://www.wftv.com/video/28355927/index.html

If Mason wanted off the case, could explain why Casey was upset and the rest of the defense looked shocked as they read the real time feed of what was happening in chambers!

    Just sayin….

ETA Is this part of a grand plan to derail the trial?

  35. 06/26/2011 at 7:00 am

Yes, Wilma and donchais, that’s what I thought too. He ran to tell Baez that his mom was willing to tailor her testimony for Casey.

As far as the Mason thing goes, that hadn’t occurred to me. I figured it was something to do with an accusation against the prosecution. I hope you’re right. Can’t imagine Ashton messing up like that.

  36. donchais
    06/26/2011 at 7:07 am

    Sandy,

You are exactly right. In Florida, once a jury is selected there are NO plea deals!

  37. 06/26/2011 at 9:07 am

I believe Cheney Mason knows how bad Baez is defending his client and knows the state will come back and straighten up all of Cindy’s lies. I don’t trust Lee yet either. I mean how can one be so angry over this pregnancy of Casey? I for one wouldn’t want my brothers in the delivery room. I doubt they would want to be there as well. (Rolling eyes) This family is really trying to paint themselves as the all American family… Not happening. Did Baez expect Lee to come out and say his parents didn’t want him involved because they suspected him to be the father? This family is so sad!!!

  38. 06/26/2011 at 9:28 am

If you look at the video of the beginning of the trial on Saturday, you will see a couple of minutes into it – where Baez is standing up and arguing with de Judge (again!) – that Mason puts his hand up to his head as if to say “Omigod, not this again…!) and so I tend to think the issue that was sealed may be that Baez is removed from first seat and Mason will carry it from here… would explain why he was yelling in the conference room – and also would explain why Casey was crying… (remember that she only seems to cry when it is about HER) she cannot have Baez sitting next to her from here on… that would be a legal issue because it would be substituting the attorney she chose for one she has to accept since hers is failing her…??? dunno, but my thoughts…

So I also wonder what in the heck happened to this “mistress” of George’s? Think she’ll testify now? This whole thing too odd. Hope I can endure another week!! LOL

It seems amazing to me how Cindy and Lee’s memory has become so much clearer after three year’s time; usually one’s memory tends to fade with time. Cindy explained her miracle memory is due to a change in her meds. I didn’t catch what caused Lee’s memory to re-emerge, perhaps his meeting with Baez had something to do with it.

  41. Reality
    06/26/2011 at 2:51 pm

The picture seems clear that Baez is running something under the table. If indeed Mason has had enough of this type of underhanded behavior and wants to leave the team, then that could possibly be upsetting to Casey as well as Baez. It’s also possible that Mason could say he’d take over from here, but since he did not give the opening statement which the defense must stick to, he may not want to take over an already sinking ship and have another sunken ship recorded in the books under his name.

I went back and watched the video of part 1 again. When they first go to sidebar and then watch Jeff. They all talk just for a couple of minutes, and then before the defense goes back in to wherever they went, Jeff turns around and shakes his head like I can’t believe this. I just thought that his reaction was interesting.

Apparently, at lunch yesterday, Baez told his BFF Geraldo that Lee was supposed to drop the line that the family suspected Lee was the Father of Caylee. Lee failed to do so, obviously.

Two things: 1)How is it not a serious ethics breach to go to lunch with a damn reporter and tell him your Trial Strategy? 2) Is this not a fairly clear indication, along with the mysteriously shifting trunk stain, that the Anthonys are coordinating their testimony.

**Also, Geraldo was swearing that the entire reason that Lee didn’t say “that” in his testimony, was because JP wouldn’t let him answer the question. What is he watching?? I’d say he’s just going by what Baez told him, but I think he was IN COURT. What a moron.

kas, that’s why I can’t/refuse to watch that crap because that’s all it is, CRAP!!!

  45. 06/26/2011 at 6:49 pm

Fox should shut up about this trial. Ninety percent of what I’ve heard from them has been completely inaccurate. Judge Napalitano (he’s great on the constitution) knows nothing about this trial and Geraldo is terrible as well. He’s palsy walsy with Baez because of the hispanic victim card. They’re both Puerto Rican and of course we’re all picking on poor Jose because he’s hispanic. Baloney, I don’t like the fact that he’s a terrible lawyer (and I feel a crook) and that has nothing to do with his ethnicity. UGH! Politically incorrect, I know. It’s about time people took responsibility for themselves and stopped blaming everything on people who criticize them.

  46. Reality

Apparently, Geraldo is the Baez defense propaganda machine! What will happen if Mason in fact takes over the lead position for the defense?

***IT IS MY OPINION THAT THE DEFENSE HAS FORGED EVIDENCE***
Take a close look at the picture entered into evidence on Friday of “Caylee” opening the sliding door, and you will see that part of the running shoe on the left side of the picture has been cloned in Photoshop in order to make her look taller!! Note the repeat pattern up the back of the shoe, and then compare it with the shoe on the right side of the picture. I am VERY CERTAIN that a Photoshop expert would confirm what I am saying. If I am correct, then this is VERY SERIOUS.

    donchais,

The cloned pattern up the back of the left shoe is TOTALLY different than the right shoe. I feel QUITE certain this has been forged in order to make her appear taller.
