Christian-Newsom – State AG Appeals Again

In what has become a never-ending battle between the State and Judge Blackwood, a new appeal was filed yesterday.

The AG’s office is asking the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals to hear an appeal of Blackwood’s refusal to step aside from handling the cases of Lemaricus Davidson, Letalvis Cobbins, and George Thomas in the 2007 murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom.

Blackwood ordered new trials for the three last December based on criminal actions of former Judge Richard Baumgartner who presided over the original trials.

Blackwood, after two hearings, has twice refused to step down and recently issued a written ruling in which he said the state had not proven any bias on his part.

The AG’s appeal states, “Rather, the issue is whether, under that objective standard, a person of ordinary prudence knowing all the facts known to the judge would find a reasonable basis for questioning the judge’s impartiality.”

To complicate things further, it is unclear as to whether or not the appellate court must hear the appeal because of the July 1 rule change on the handling of recusal motions.

The first motion was filed by the DA prior to the new rule taking effect.  They did however file an amended motion after the new rule start date.

With the exception of Vanessa Coleman’s November trial, everything else is pretty much in limbo.

This has become a disgrace!

It’s a travesty. Every day the families have to wait is another day of grief and incomprehensible emotions. They deserve justice.

I am quite disgusted over this insanity and believe Blackwood’s ego is at play here…he’s enjoying the spotlight at the expense of two savagely, brutalized victims and the loved-ones left with all this pain and grief.

Four separate juries heard, saw, and got the evidence, pronounced their verdicts and Blackwood says he didn’t hear or see the witness testimony so he cannot allow the verdicts and wants to preside over the new trials.

Blackwood has already, more than spent his 15 minutes of fame; if disgrace can be called fame!

If Blackwood is allowed to remain in control of this situation, I will never, ever believe Channon, Chris, and their families will ever see justice and I will forever be disillusioned about what justice means.

This is awful. These kids been dead how long, and still no justice. The family has to relive this shyt over and over again? These monsters dont deserve new trials. They all deserve the hot shot.

This stopped being about justice for Channon and Chris when Blackwood overturned the verdicts and granted new trials.
