Christian-Newsom – We Continue To Wait

A pre-trial motions hearing in the Vanessa Coleman retrial was held this afternoon regarding evidence defense attorney Ted Lavit wants suppressed.

The issues can be found here: Christian-Newsom – Photos Should Be Barred For Coleman Trial.

Many thanks to Knox News Sentinel reporter, Jamie Satterfield, for tweeting from the courtroom as the hearing was not streamed.

Per Jamie’s tweets:

Coleman’s attorney Ted Lavit wants no mention of gun evidence cause Newsom was shot and Coleman acquitted in his death

Lavit keeps calling Newsom “the male victim.”

Remember, Hugh and Mary Newsom as well as Deena and Gary Christian are in court!

Lavit wants judge to bar intro of photos of Christian as too inflammatory

Prosecutor TaKisha Fitzgerald says state has to prove kidnapping of Newsom

Prosecutor Leland Price says gun evidence goes to kidnapping counts

Lavit counters:

“There is no evidence Vanessa Coleman ever laid eyes on Christopher Newsom”

“They want to bring all these guns in to prejudice this jury”

So, we are all, not surprisingly, still in limbo because:

Senior Judge Jon Kerry Blackwood to issue written rulings on motions involving guns, evidence of Newsom’s kidnapping later

He said he will review photos to decide which can be admitted

So, as the clock is ticking down to the November retrial, we continue to wait!

As always, thank you for the updates on this horror story. I often wonder if any of the jurors from the previous trials were ever interviewed by the court system about their perception of the judge at the trials and if they even noticed that he appeared to be drugged as opposed to just being very tired.

      Hey Jo,

Can’t say about the court system, but I did read some media stuff where jurors said they saw nothing wrong.

Of course, in Coleman’s trial we all knew something was off, but laid it off to exhaustion at the time.

Okay, so now we sit and wait on Blackwood’s rulings. Once announced, I hope that his rulings show him to be a fair judge.

I can’t see how Chris Newsom can be amputated from this trial. Facts are facts. Hiding his kidnapping at the same time Channon was would be ridiculous and and change the nature of the entire case.

Praying for justice. The Christians and Newsoms deserve it after all this time and all these awful trials.

In the past I’ve read Chris was in the Chipman house for a time, so ‘Nessa’ would have seen him…true or fiction, the pros needs to tighten this up.

We can only hope and pray justice will truly be served by the judge and jury!

I believe Chris Newson’s cap was found in the Chipman house. I think I recall this when watching the live stream of the Cobbins trial. I don’t think any of the defendants admitted to seeing Chris. Those of us who followed the trials know what was done to him.
