Jodi Arias Murder Trial, Day Two

Travis Alexander

Today, the murder trial enters it’s second day.  We’ll see if court begins on time!

As usual, we didn’t start on time!  What’s up with Arizona???

Judge Stephens finally takes the bench at 12:38, good by AZ standards, lol!  However, proceedings didn’t start until 12:45 EST.

Esteban Flores, a Mesa Police Homicide Detective is called.  He investigated the crime scene.

Jodi called him the night of the 9th, but he didn’t talk to her.  She called the next day again.

So typical of a guilty person to try and get involved in the case to help solve it! Screen shot 2013-01-03 at 12.39.07 PM

Audio of the call is played and Jodi was asking if there was any type weapons, like a gun!!!  She also said Travis had no weapons.

Nurmi claims he hasn’t heard the tape…it was given to the defense 3 years ago!

The next part of the tape, Jodi tells Flores she spoke to Travis on Tuesday night.

She also tells him that Travis’s tires were slashed and she was concerned and told Travis he should start to lock his doors.

She says they were having sexual relations, but to keep it confidential because Travis was a Mormon!

Flores gets her to talk about the bedding and she describes it to a tee!

Going out on a limb here, but I’m sure Travis had more than one set of sheets, but her detail is more than likely describing the bedding as it was on the night of the murder.

Flores tells her that some folks didn’t have the best opinion of her…they said you were hanging out when Travis didn’t want you there and you were looking at his email and Facebook account, etc.

She did hack his computer!

He tells her Travis’ friends said she might have had something to do with the murder.

Jodi says he is so strong two people had to be involved and talks about how he lifted weights so he could look good in his bathing suit.

She steers him to a Thomas Brown to look at.  He was kicked out of Travis’ house for supposed deviant behavior, according to Jodi.  He is a really big guy – doesn’t seem violent, seems like a big teddy bear.

Nurmi on cross…

He asks Flores what he did when he arrived at the house on the 9th.

He asks about the phone call with Jodi and when that took place.  It happened the afternoon of the 10th.

The friends that claim Jodi was a stalker and hanging around when she wasn’t supposed, did you talk to them?  No, patrol officers talked to them and reported back to me.

You asked Jodi on the call about a tassel or rope, why?  We found a piece of material at the scene.

Nurmi shows Flores photos and he identifies them.  They are moved as exhibits and published to the jury.  There are about 8 photos of the rope.

You spoke with Jodi where she told you Travis said mean things to her in emails?  Yes.

He called her a 3-hole wonder, a slut, a whore?  Yes.

Judge calls lunch break.

Court resumes.

Martinez wants to re-cross Flores on the email and Judge calls a bench conference.

Flores is back on the stand.  Martinez shows him emails.

The document contains the phrase ‘3 hole wonder’.  In the email from Travis he complains to be sexually used by Jodi.  Travis said I am nothing more that a dildo with a beating heart.

Now why would he…

Objection, calls for speculation.

Another sidebar…

Now were are back to the ‘tassels’ or threads.  They are way too tiny to have been used to tie Jodi up as the defense claimed in opening argument.

OMG, prosecutor just produced a photo of throw pillows in Travis’ bedroom and sure as heck, they have tassels!!!

Now we see a photo of Travis flip-flop sandals that has fiber covering…probably where the fibers found in the house came from!  The fibers were never sent out to be tested.  Sheesh!

Heather Conner is up.  Mesa PD latent print examiner.  She examines evidence for prints.  She also spent 3 days at the scene collecting evidence.

She details how prints are left or not left on surfaces and how they used for comparisons.

Martinez shows here 7 photos of the front of the home, the garage, etc and she identifies them.

Technical issue so court on a 10-minute break.

Conner is identifying stains found on the washer.  The photo with the lid open shows items in the washer as well as the camera.

She is given the digital camera to identify.

The memory card was also collected from the washer.

She is shown photos of the items removed from the washer as well as the dryer…towel, socks, t-shirt…they are all spotted, consistent with a whole lot of bleach being dumped in the washer.

The bedding items were found in the dryer.

So the real interesting thing is that Jodi actually ran two loads of laundry which means she spent quite a bit of time in the house after the murder.  Leads me to believe she had to have known Travis’ roommates were on vacation.  Talk about stalking!

We go through a ton (and I mean a ton) of photos of the entire house.

We don’t see them, but they are showing some pics of Travis in the shower.

The pics of the bathroom show blood all over the place. I can’t believe how much blood is throughout.

Jodi is doing that fake crying thing, yet she does sneak peeks at the photos.  In contrast, Travis’ sisters are weeping.  Just pisses me off!

The cartridge casing that was collected in the bathroom is identified.  It was .25 caliber, just like the gun that was allegedly stolen from Jodi’s grandparents house.

Judge calls it a day at 4:30.

There is no court on Fridays or this Monday.  They’ll be back Tuesday!  (Insert eye roll here).  Gotta say these Arizona part-time trials are just nuts.  Surprised they get anything done!

Well, it seems that trials tend to end at 4:30, AZ time. Sheesh!

Mr. Martinez sure does know how to end the court day. He left the jury with the photographs of one of the bloodiest crime scene ever shown. They can turn them over in their minds for four straight days.

The pools of blood, blood spatter, swipes of blood all over the place will probably provide a rather graphic version of the killing. I hope they have the best blood spatter analyst in the world. It’s a gory road map of a horrific murder.

This all occurred during the usual chain-of-evidence testimony! I’m still creeped out and I imagine this entire trial will have that effect on me.

Thanks for the great summary, donchais.

I want to go to the trial, and cannot find an address of the court house where it is happening? Can you tell me where it is? I live in the NW Phoenix valley.

I noticed on Jodi MySpace page that she describes herself as ‘strong.’ Wonder how many people use that adjective to describe themselves… and that being said, it would then appear she might have been strong enough physically to move him after she nearly blew his head off.
