Jodi Arias Murder Trial – Day Twenty-One

We’ve all heard Jodi lie over and over, but even I was gobsmacked at yesterday’s lies.  That was the primo pack of lies!  Nurmi is going through Willmott’s opening argument and trying, line-by-line, to get Jodi to basically parrot Willmott’s claims.  At times though, it felt like Jodi lost the script.

Now, I have a confession.  It is a bit taxing trying to watch and listen to the court proceedings and report at the same time, but ya know how Nurmi has been playing hopscotch through the timeline?  Swear, there have been a few times I thought somehow I must have dozed off!  One minute I’ll be typing about some 2007 thing and next I know Nurmi is talking about 2008 and I have no idea how he got there!  I haven’t fallen out of my chair, nor has my head hit the desk, so I’m pretty sure it must be Nurmi!

They did so well with timing yesterday!  Court begins at 10:38 with a sidebar.  Willmott doing all the talking.

Screen shot 2013-02-20 at 12.44.32 PMJodi on the stand.  Martinez went to speak with Travis’ family.

We were talking about late afternoon when you were going to do a photo shoot in Travis’ bathroom, why the shower?  We were going for the water effect.

Where was your luggage at that point?  I don’t recall specifically, but most of the stuff was in the car except maybe my purse.

Did you have a gun with you?

Where you holding a knife?  No.

He was trying out different poses.  We looked at them and deleted some of them.

Travis was sitting in the shower and she accidentally dropped the camera.  Travis flipped and grabbed her and screamed a five-year old can hold a camera better than she can.

She ran to the closet because the last time she tried to leave the room…well that was another incident in the summer.

Wait when was that?  Summer 2007.

She needed her SS number for a job interview and thought it was in a box in Travis’ garage.

Wait, she doesn’t know he SS number???

Travis said she could come over and look for it.

She got there and saw the blue glow from the TV and two people making out on the couch.  The woman stood up and was re-hooking her bra.  We weren’t dating at the time, but it still felt awkward.  So she left.

She went to Travis’ the next day and heard banging from the bedroom.  Travis was repeatedly banging his head on the door.  She called his name and he spun around and screamed at her and grabbed her by the wrist.  Travis looked like a madman and she freaked out so then he calmed down.

When he slammed you on the ground after you dropped the camera, how did you feel?  Scared. She now says she was choked into unconsciousness before!

She fled through the closet and heard Travis running after her. She didn’t want to be body-slammed.

She remembered Travis had a gun in the closet so she grabbed it.

Travis never had a freakin gun and if he did, it wouldn’t be a .25 caliber and kept loaded and no ammo ever found in the house?  WTF?

He shows the photo of Jodi behind Travis’ body.  She claims he lunged at her and she accidentally shot him.  She didn’t mean to shoot him.

Travis was shot over the right brow… downward angle.  And, did he chase her out of the closet and back to the bathroom?

They fell and they were wrestling on the floor so she didn’t think he was shot because she didn’t see anything different.

Travis was screaming he was going to kill her.

She doesn’t remember a lot of that day, there are gaps.

She doesn’t remember the photos, but only since she was just shown them.

Do you remember dragging across the floor?  No, I just remember trying to get away from him.

Do you remember placing him in the shower?  No.

You told us you don’t have any clear memories of that day?  I have some.

She remembers putting the knife in the dishwasher.

Where did the knife come from?  The bedroom, I guess where we cut the rope.

Now she remembers the knife being dropped on the bathroom floor and it clanging.  She just started screaming.  Travis was on the floor next to her.

She remembers mortal terror for pissing Travis off worse then she ever had.

Did you think he was going to kill you?  Fer sure, after he said he was going to.

Your last memory of the bathroom was sitting on the floor screaming?  I don’t know if I was sitting, I just remember dropping the knife.

She remembers being freaked out and realized she couldn’t rewind the clock and take any of this back.

Next she remembers driving and ending up in the desert.

Did you have the gun with you?  I don’t remember bringing it, but I remember throwing it.

She also says she took the rope that she was tied up with and threw that in a dumpster!

When you were driving was there blood on you?  Yes, blood on my hands and I didn’t have my shoes.

Ummm, she would have been covered in blood!

She was thirsty and got a water bottle out of the trunk she also rinsed the blood of her and took another pair of shoes from the trunk.

She said she put the knife in the dishwasher, but now says she doesn’t know if she had the knife with her.

At this point did you think Mr. Alexander was dead?  Yes, I didn’t think he was alive.

She hoped he was alive and everything could go back to the way it was.

Did you still love him?  Yeah.

Still love him now?  Yeah, it’s a different love, but I still do.

Now she looked for her charger and turned on her phone.

The reception was bad so she couldn’t get her messages.

She had responsibility to people who were probably worried about where she was.  Ryan, Leslie…

She was scared and couldn’t call 911.  She was delaying the inevitable.  She felt remorse.

donchais passing out barf bags!

Now says she contemplated suicide later.

She knew her life was pretty much over, but didn’t want anyone to know what had happened so she took steps to hide it.

She called Ryan and said she was lost. She spoke to Leslie and she said they had called Travis to see if he knew where she was.  That’s when she decided she should leave a message on Travis’ phone too so it would look like she wasn’t even in Travis’.

She decided to put on a happy face and be positive and act like herself.

Did you think Ryan would expect sexual intercourse from you?  No.

By sexual contact do you think he expected that?  I don’t know what you mean.

Kissing?  Yes.

This is just God awful!  It flies totally in the face of the forensics.

They went to dinner and a business briefing.

She remembers being pulled over by the police because her license plate was upside down.

Did you put it upside down?  No, I told Ryan…

Now she claims they woke up for her to get back on the road and she kissed Ryan goodbye, but we weren’t making out like he said!!!

She got back to Yreka and planned to act as normal as she could.  I just wanted to die.

Did you contemplate suicide when you got to Yreka?

Were you contemplating killing your self on the drive to Yreka?  No, I wasn’t formulating plans at that time.

In Utah, she had cuts on her hand because she dropped a water glass at Travis’.

She told everybody she did it bartending!

When she eventually saw her family, she didn’t tell them anything.  She acted normal waiting for the clock to tick down.

What clock, for your arrest?  Yes.

You got back to Yreka in early June and were arrested in July.  Did you think of killing yourself?  Yes, I bought a gun. She got of rid of the Spiderman underwear so nobody would know what she and Travis did.

She also packed up and decided to move back to Monterey so whether arrested or suicide, it wouldn’t be in her parents backyard.

You had several phone calls with Det. Flores after you learned Travis was dead.

She called on June 10 and left a message because Dan Freeman had called and told her Travis was dead.

Lunch recess called…

Well, so far this has been a total outrage…hope the jury gets it!

Just a hunch, there were so many hours with Det. Flores, Nurmi will finish out the week before he lets Martinez out of his cage on Monday!

Afternoon session begins at 1:33.

When you came back to Yreka, you were still driving the rental car?  Yes.

She returned the car a day late because she went directly to Yreka and returned the car to Redding the next day.

How the hell did we go back to this crap when we had already gone on to Det. Flores????

June 10, Dan Freeman called and she thought that would be the call she was dreading.

Did you seek out others to confirm Travis’ death?  Yes, she called several people. But nobody was giving much information.  She called Bishop Leighton from Travis’s ward and he confirmed Travis was dead.

How did you react to that?

Objection, relevance….

When you received confirmation that Travis was in fact dead, how did you react to that?  I was in my grandma’s living room and I doubled over and was crying really hard.

She was thinking she didn’t know how his friends had found him and what everyone was going through.  She thought about Napoleon.  It was just a disaster.

She figured she would get arrested the next day.

You spoke with Det. Flores after you spoke with Bishop Leighton.

You called Det. Flores, why?  Leslie encouraged me to.

What did you say to Det. Flores?  Thought it would throw off suspicion from her.

Why not tell him what happened?  I couldn’t imagine telling him I did that.

You purchased a gun and went through a background check?  Yes, a 9 mm I took access on July 10.

Between June 10 and early July is a lot of time.  Did you make any attempt to kill yourself?  No.

Why did you continue to call Det. Flores?  To act like I was participating and to also see what information I could garner from him.

There were guns at her grandparents and her parents and it never dawned on her to use one of those.

She bought it because she went panning for gold with a bunch of guys and they would be drinking and she wanted it for protection!

Did you attend a memorial for Travis?  Yes, the memorial in Mesa.

Thought if she didn’t show up it would look suspicious to their friends.

At that point in time had you forgiven him?  Yes, but mostly blamed myself.

She was at the Freeman’s and felt Travis was there and he was ok and in a better and he wasn’t mad at her anymore.

Poor Samantha is really struggling to hold it together.

Have you forgiven yourself for not taking another option?

Objection, relevance…

Again, do you forgive yourself?  Maybe I could have left or something.

She finally told her family Travis died, but didn’t tell them she was there.

She never told them about the sexual part or the violence.

I’ve watched a lot of trials, but the is the absolute worst!

What were you doing the day you were arrested?  Packing things to move to Monterey.  Her father drove her to a rental car agency.

She took a shower at grandmas and when she came out, she was told the police were there.

This gun you bought, was it in the car?  Yes.

You had several calls to Det. Flores?  Yes.

You went to the police dept. and gave DNA samples?  Yes.

You were wearing a T-shirt and pants when you were interviewed by Det. Flores, why didn’t you tell him?  It was shameful…it was very not I and I didn’t want my family to know I did that.

So you denied being there?  Yes.

Had you been interrogated by a police officer before?  No.

You spoke to Det. Flores the next day?  Yes.

Flores confronted you with evidence you were there?  Yes.

Then you told him another lie, right?

She explains the ninja story she made up about intruders to ‘comport’ with the forensics.

ritanita wants to know if she was blacked out most of the time, how would she know what the forensics were?

Jodi says she has no idea why she said it was a man and a woman.

She wasn’t ready to tell the truth because she still didn’t want people to know.  She was very concerned about both her and Travis’ reputations.

She didn’t want to tell the negative things about Travis because so many people were already hurting.  There was no benefit to tell about the sex or the violence.

However, she just laid all the trash out in front of Travis’ family, her family, the court, and the entire world!

To kill herself in jail, she took a bunch of Advil and had a razor she took apart.

She wrapped herself in excess laundry so she wouldn’t make a mess over her cellmate.

If she died, she wouldn’t have to admit that and her family to know.

You spoke with the media during this time?  Yes.

Did you reach out to them or did they reach out to your family?  They reached out to my family.

Jonathan Leach from CBS came to visit her in jail?  Yes, he talked her into the interview.

She did it because she saw it as a sign to do it because she hadn’t killed herself, yet.

Her idea was to do the interview and THEN kill herself!

Nurmi asks to approach…

The interview you decide to do, you believe you want the story out there in the public?  Jonathan told me all of Travis’ family and friends were participating.  I wanted the world to know I loved him and didn’t want them to perceive I was a bad person.  I made up this big stupid story for Flores and I stuck with it.

OMG!  She said her suicide kept getting put on hold!

Her second interview was with 48 Hours in September.

Why did you describe your childhood as being ideal?  Yes.

Why?  I felt it was during my early age.

But, you didn’t tell her about the rest?  I basically sugarcoated everything and glossed over any negative incidents.

She did mention she and Travis were 2 consenting adults and their sexual relationship.

She also told Flores of their sexual relationship to let him no there was malice there.

Nurmi is dragging this whole interview thing out to stall for time!

After the interviews, the sexual relationship was out of the bag?  Yes, under a microscope.

She spoke with a church member, Aaron, who didn’t really follow the religion closely and told him about the relationship.  She spoke with him because she felt he wouldn’t judge her.

She also interviewed with Inside Edition, they came to the jail.

A Sheriff officer told her they were there and they were camera ready…was just sprung on her.  The officer encouraged her to do the interview.

You said no jury would ever convict you?  Yes.

You also said those were the bitterest words you had ever spoken?  Yes.

I had hoped to be dead before the interview.

She saw a lawyer on TV use the phrase, ‘no jury will convict’…Jodi thought it was eloquent, so she used it.

She ‘confessed’ in spring 2010 because she realized her family would always be there for her.  It evolved over the years.

OMG!  Nurmi done.

Judge sends the jury out.

Crap, closed hearing in chambers, damnit!

Court will resume tomorrow!

IMHO, Nurmi did his client no good by dragging out his cross to have her describe her feelings over and over again. What we, and hopefully the jury, ended up with was a very good look into the mind of this psycho, as Travis referred to her. It was all about her and how she refused to accept any responsibility for what she did for Travis.

While I realize that all this was set up so that the defense experts can explain how the dots connect to a victim of domestic abuse, it went much further than that. It has opened up tons of areas for Martinez to question her on cross.

As you pointed out, I found it incredible that she only had blood on her hands when she found herself in the middle of the desert. She had to be covered head-to-toe with blood. No bottle of Costco water would clean it all away.

She knows what she did. She remembers everything she did in the bathroom that day.

I am eager for tomorrow and Mr. Martinez cross.

Donchais, first of all, I would to send a collective thank you from all of us for the barf bags!

All I have to say is, does Nurmi truly think anyone was gonna believe this load of crap? It’s not even worthwhile to comment on.

Can’t wait for Martinez tomorrow. Yay!

You’d think Jodi Arias could come up with a better third version because it was ridiculous to even picture a dripping wet buck naked man jumping out of a shower and throwing her to the tile because she dropped his camera, her getting away and him chasing her. His feet would be wet and he would slip and fall on the tile.

She claims he is chasing her to the bedroom closet calling her an f…ing idiot and a five year old could use a camera. But she says he threatened to kill her after she got the gun from the bedroom closet and met him in the bathroom and shot him because she wanted him to stop.

Stop doing what? How can he be chasing her if he is in the bathroom and she is in the bedroom closet? She says she doesn’t even know she’s shot him because he starts wrestling with her and yelling, “Kill you bitch.” Not possible with a bullet in the brain.

Then she conveniently “blacks out” and wakes up driving in the desert. Over the years she remembers dropping the knife and screaming and putting it in the dishwasher. Sounds like she’s watched too many horror movies.

This is typical of the other fictional tales she has made up of Travis backhanding her, breaking her finger, choking her and walking in on him masturbating to a picture of a young boy in underwear.

There is no evidence that Travis owned a gun but evidence that she had the means, motive and opportunity to steal a 45 mm gun from her grandfather a few days before driving 1,000 miles to murder Travis. Forensics show he had defensive wounds and was killed by the deep stab wound to his heart or the slashing of his throat before he was shot in the head. It’s a good thing she was arrested because it looks like she was planning to stab and shoot another lover with the 9 mm gun and knives she’d hidden in the new rental car. She’s too narcissistic and psychotic to kill herself.

It’s chilling that she showed no remorse or caring about Travis after she slaughtered him and admits she covered up the crime because she was only scared about what was going to happen to her.

He was so right in his text messages when he said she was an evil sociopath who didn’t care about him or anything that didn’t involve her.

  4. 02/20/2013 at 7:01 pm

How are the professionals going to get on the stand and in all honesty try to explain away her domestic abuse amid all the lies and inconsistencies of her testimony. Not only did she manipulate TA but I believe she is trying it with everyone regarding this case. (Just my opinion). Does she really think people are believing her story???? She knew everyone was waiting for the ultimate end to her story and I would venture to guess she thinks she has complete control of the info she gives out according to JA ‘s rules. Giving up my life to watch Mr. Martinez

  5. 02/20/2013 at 7:11 pm

Just heard JA say that TA got down like a linebacker and grabbed her around the waist and she shot him. She is left handed and the shot was on the right side of his headed how does that work?

Ya’ll we must be psychic or something! This went down as predicted. I just wanted to give Travis’s sister a hug when she was crying. Let me just state my points. Travis’s closet was far too tidy for someone to have grabbed that gun in a panic. It was way up on top. JA would have had to scale those shelves in order to reach it. Also a correspondent on HLN made an excellent point about the gun’s existence. There was never any boxes or loose ammo found anywhere in the house. This includes roommates’ rooms as well. Also there wasn’t a gun case, gun safe, holster, etc. That gun belonged to her grandparents! Forensics will completely disprove her theory of where he was slaughtered, in what order and everything else. I am rubbing my hands in anticipation for tomorrow!

What a load of crap!! She has taken so many breaks in her story….she’s making it up as she goes! How the hell can he be chasing her?? She’s making it sound like they have all the room of outside! We’ve all seen pictures of the layout of that room…..it’s not that big!! If he was chasing her when she ran down the “hallway” to the bedroom and ducked into the closet because she remembered there was a gun (of course she does…..she put it there when she was taking a shower and he was downstairs) and climbed the shelves to get it down, where was Travis???? Waiting in the wings???? Geeeezzzz…..if he was chasing her he would have been right behind her!! No time to be climbing on shelves to get a gun!! Then they go back to the bathroom where she shoots him as he comes at her like a linebacker!!

BS BS BS!!! The shot to the head was in a downward direction and wound up in the lower jawline!! He was below her……there was no blood in the wound because his heart was no longer beating because of the wound to the heart, multiple stab wounds, and slit to the throat!! He was dead already when she shot him! What a freakin’ Liar and drama queen!

And it just gets worse from then on…..we were sooooo sick and tired of her nonsense today! She conveniently blacks out about the sequence of events that will put her on that execution table! She knows and has probably heard that those knife wounds were not self-defense!!

We hope that jury has their thinking caps on and can sort through all the drama since they’re not going to get the truth they need to put her down!!!

I’m watching Nancy Grace. Beth Karas said the jury was staring in disbelief when Jodi said she had a blackout and didn’t remember stabbing Travis 29 times and slitting his throat. Jean Casarez said Jodi is claiming she doesn’t remember because in Arizona the self defense law states you can only use enough force to get away. Stabbing him 29 times and slitting his throat is three times overkill. Casarez pointed out Jodi took responsibility for the murder. She said she didn’t call 911 because “I was scared of what was going to happen to me and I couldn’t imagine telling anybody what I’d just done.” Casarez said she didn’t say “I’m lucky to be alive.” Nancy pointed out Jodi remembered she ate an omlette the day before and drank COSCO water after the murder but she couldn’t remember the stabbing. Jodi says Travis grabbed her waist as the gun went off. The medical examiner said that wasn’t possible because it wasn’t a close contact wound and that he was already dead when shot because there was no burning of the skin and no bleeding. Casarez also said Jodi couldn’t have had time to get up on a ladder and get the gun if he was chasing her.

First thing that was a big red flag for me was her story about running away…..if she ran into the closet and shut the door and he came after her, she’d be in the closet. She then said then ran into the bedroom….that would be CARPET, not tile. So if the jurors are trying to picture this run around and attack, there should have been blood in the closet or the bedroom from this alleged shot, but she then said she shot him in the bathroom “near the scales or something.” How did she get from the closet or bedroom to the far side of the bathroom???

I loved how she zoned out when he asked about Dan calling her. “Dan……Dan….he was….” “DAN WHO??” “Oh….Dan Freeman.”

I think Nurmi was a little peeved she went so far off script. But he’s a dolt. Lumbering around that courtroom like a washed up hack.

Impressive reporting!! Truly… I don’t wonder that you thought you might have dozed off, because there was plenty to instigate that behavior, but none to explain away 29 stab wounds, photos and a gunshot to the head, plus dragging a body around the room… WTF? I’m with katz63md… click, click.

Omg where can u even start re: today’s testimony? It’s literally jaw dropping in many ways. First in its implausibility, second in the fact that Jodi would think that it’s plausible and third that this is the defense?!!! Really?! We waited how many days for her to trudge thru detail after irrevelant detail for this?! Wow. It’s as if she wrapped up the state’s case with a ribbon and handed it to them. Its as if she said Do u think u have enough to prove consciousness of guilt? Not quite? Ok here u go. I’ll even use the word confess in my final statement. Martinez was given a huge present with a bow on it today. Its truly mind boggling that this is what they came up with to explain her actions.

    02/21/2013 at 12:18 am

Why do I get the feeling the defense just gave up today? Maybe there’s a plea deal in the works? First degree, life w/o parole? I just dont know how she or her defense could be delusional enough to think she was convincing today. Maybe it’s just that I’ve never seen anything like this. Idk it just seems really strange to witness testimony that so clearly is false without a shadow of a doubt. It just proves the states case almost w/o them having to do anything. Maybe I just find it chilling to realize that she really did plan his murder and do it the way she did. It’s like seeing a psycho close up. But why put her on the stand and bash Travis for seven days and then end with this little whimper? I just can’t imagine that Jodi or her defense could go to sleep tonight and not feel like its over. don’t mean to count the eggs before theyre hatched but unless this jury is seriously cognitively deficient I’m sure most of them would already vote for first degree before Martinez even starts his cross. It’s really his case to lose at this point.

  17. 02/21/2013 at 12:30 am

I disagree with Jean when she said that Jodi accepts responsibility (or maybe she speaking from Jodi’s POV). If she accepted responsibility she would have came out with the truth 4 years ago instead of waiting for so long. B.S.

I just want to say (while I’m waiting for cross examination with anticipation!) how sorry I am for the Alexander family to have to sit and listen to such difficult testimony. I hope they realize that a lot of what they are hearing is being done to deliberately tarnish people’s view of your beloved family member, Travis. It doesn’t make it true. It’s a one-sided monologue….until tomorrow! The State of Arizona will give Travis a voice. I have faith in that. God bless you all, including the family of Jodi Arias, who are suffering here as well.

  20. jad
    02/21/2013 at 4:44 am

If Jodi Arias is a sexual deviant, as thought, there should have been clues along the way. It was thought there would be little help in the record evidence of the case because her early background information was lacking. She had been pegged as a Yreka resident, but her own testimony did not put her in that town until she was fifteen (of which it has been established she moved out of the family residence when she was seventeen). The Court testimony is that she had lived most of her life in Salinas, and, after the age of twelve, she had moved around with her family for a couple of years before settling in Yreka. It is possible that the information surrounding one of the reasons for moving around so much over that approximately three-year period [between the ages of twelve and fifteen] had not been revealed by the family, and the reason could be that the family knew what their little girl was. Nevertheless, Jodi Arias provided quite a bit of details about family life while on the stand in the morning of the thirteenth day of the Trial.

Other than the wooden spoon that was mainly wielded by her mother for disciplinary purposes involving the children [when they were young], Jodi Arias limited her testimony to two specific times that she must have imagined were the most severe of being physically abused by a family member. Both intentional assaults on her were by her father, who she described to have been a physically fit, big man who worked out his routines at home on his pre-Bowflex contraption, who visited the gym frequently where he was a weightlifter (capable of lifting weights of over five hundred pounds), who was so into martial arts that he enjoyed devoting his down time to watching martial arts movies. She further filled out her story of the child abuse exacted by her parents, by denigrating the family life in the Arias household, in her telling (of the trauma inflicted by trusted family members) to the Jurors, the Officers of the Court, spectators in the Courtroom, and the [possible worldwide] audience viewing the telecast coverage by the cable channel TRU TV [its sister channel HLN TV] and some Internet providers.

The horror of her family life (as imagined and consequently described by Jodi Arias) was that her mother and her father would take turns punishing Jodi and her younger siblings in the presence of each other and that, even if her mother did not view what her father had imposed, she would have known of the beatings Jodi had endured that had been inflicted by her father. Additionally, since no details were furnished about what Jodi did when employed at a restaurant she said was owned by her father, there was a sense that she was not only abused physically but put to work against her will.

    {{Admittedly, there are too many children who really are abused, but the situations described by Jodi Arias have been overly exaggerated; and, in most probability, there was not the type of abuse she wanted to portray. Additionally — Not to get too off track, but one should watch some clips of the comedy routines of George Lopez for a grasp of the use of wooden spoons when disciplining and for other episodes that he has related about growing up in a large extended Mexican family in California.}}

Both examples of supposedly severe abuse meted out by her parents were attributed to the father she would describe (shortly before the afternoon break that day at Trial) as loutish, a bore, and gossipy. She asserted he was a very critical, negative person whose sentences dripped with sarcasm meant to be funny but rarely seen as humorous. Her statements seemed to have been meant for the Jurors and all the rest of the world to hear when taking into consideration any mitigating circumstances to the crime or (for a reason to be out of sync and not in agreement with a determination of guilt) any actual excuse that could be used by a confused Juror to find her not guilty of a crime that a Juror could have felt Jodi had been born and raised to commit. Through the representations enhanced by her team of defense lawyers (of the expert sex-certified Nurmi especially), a Juror could have been lead to surmise Jodi could not have been responsible because of the circumstances of her birth that had given her an impoverished family life fraught with abuse, where she had probably been forced to work for her father at his restaurant rather than have a happy, carefree childhood.

Jodi Arias even gave an example of physical abuse that was inflicted by her father on her mother, that she characterized had been intended to put her mother in her place when he would argue with her, by smacking her mother on her arm until his anger or frustration had diminished. This detailed remembrance was brought on after her criminal lawyer, Nurmi, pressed her for more information about the arguments and fights she may have witnessed. Jodi Arias told the Court her father’s insensitivity and bad behavior towards her mother were constant and extended to more than her mother. This was especially so when her mother gained weight and [as demonstrably pointed out by Jodi Arias in the Courtroom] when her mother had enlarged herself to a size 10. Jodi Arias related what she remembered of his callousness and thoughtlessness when she said she was with her father when he arbitrarily threw out his crude statements upon seeing unrelated people walking in the crosswalks. Her memories of her father could have followed her, and her remembrance of her relationships with men afterwards could have been tinged with similar stories. Regardless, whether she had experienced false memories of her childhood and adolescence or there was a semblance of truth, she would base her relationships with her male lovers on what she would report she thought she remembered had happened. Her nature was such that it could not be easily discerned if she actually believed what she said or just expected those who heard her statements would go along with what was spoken and just believe what she said was truthful.

During the afternoon of her first day on the stand, the testimony at Trial would examine the brutishness of her father that she had alluded to in the morning. In one instance, she said her father slapped her a couple of times when she could not answer him after he had awoken her in a groggy state, while she was on her bed in her bedroom. She said that this occurrence was at six in the morning on the day they were leaving to move to Yreka (as that was the town she mentioned). Since it can be established that her statements have not been aboveboard, and it is known the family moved around a lot for the years before moving to Yreka, it is possible that this incident could have occurred before the family had to move out of any of the other towns they had tried to establish residency. What can be established is that she moved to Yreka before she was a freshman in high school. She had already stated she had failed a grade and was only one year ahead of her two-year younger brother. So, her age as a freshman can be pegged at the age she had given, which was fifteen.

If this episode occurred before a certain date in July and the move would have been to Yreka, she would have been fourteen when she admitted sneaking out for the night with several of her friends. This had been found out when her parents had awoken during the night and realized she was not in their home (asleep, sound and safe in her bed). She failed to provide any more testimony about other episodes where she would have been caught sneaking out and what the punishment would have been in any earlier episodes. Another example she testified to was that incident when she said her father hit her so hard she fell into a door frame (and lost consciousness for a short while). This second incident happened after school authorities had called her family to report she had skipped school, and her father confronted her about it, after finding her at a drug store. He had brought her to their home to discuss potential action for her insubordinate attitude towards school authorities and ill behavior at home (that could have been modeled by her younger siblings). Nonetheless, without the knowledge of either parent, she had already moved most of her belongings into the place her Goth boyfriend (Bobby Suarez) was living. It seems that her boyfriend thought he was helping her escape the abuse she was suffering in that household. She was almost four months shy of her eighteenth birthday at the time of the second episode of child abuse she described.

Contrary to the illustration she had painted of her home life, the facts seem to show that most of the time, punishment seemed to be rooted in trying to find a way to change the out of control behavior [possibly of a sexual nature] that was subjecting her parents [in front of their young children] to her belligerence, disobedience, and acting out. In the first incident of abuse she detailed, that would have occurred before the family moved to another town [where they may or may not have been known], she said her father slapped her several times for not answering him about where she had been after she had come home from sneaking out of the house and had passed out to the point she could not be brought out of her grogginess. This would have been shortly before the move to the town where her grandparents lived in Yreka, but it is unclear if the move was after the move to another destination first.

In spite of making any material of a sexual nature the main focus of the case, the early youth of her sexual degeneracy was not examined and remained unavailable for review during the questioning by Jodi Arias’ criminal lawyer. Nevertheless, her parents would have known what they had lived with and had to contend with while raising her. After all, there were three younger ones in the household, and, in all probability, they would not have let the oldest set a bad example. If so, they would have lost more than the one oldest child. Thus and so, an errant child would have had to have been dealt with in order to protect and save the remaining children. {{This may not have worked out for the parents since the testimony was that the youngest sister of Jodi Arias, who was staying with her while the sex tape was made in May of 2008, was hiding at her house to escape an abusive boyfriend, as well as try to heal from her alcoholism and drug addiction.}} It would be left to the Jurors to decide if her father had acted out of the ordinary when punishing his daughter for sneaking out of the house with her friends when she was fourteen and for skipping school when she was seventeen (at the time she was overly attached to a man who was twenty-one years old, not of their religion, unemployed, and other depictions of character that would have made the man undesirable for their under-aged daughter).

Jodi Arias was a troubled human being — one that did not devolve to the creature she was, but had always been the creature she is. The only good that could come out of the testimony she has provided is there is documentation of the way this psychopath thinks and relates to her fellow human beings. In Silence of the Lambs, the character played by Jodi Foster must work with the wishes of Dr. Hannibal Lecter to understand the makings of a psychopath when trying to stop the character Wild Bill. His incarceration, rather than the death penalty, had been made possible by the State, in order to study the trappings of the mind of this pure psychopath. The genius of Dr. Lecter is what let him continue that which it was not in his power to stop. If he took a fancy to a person, that person wound up on a platter to satisfy his appetite. For example, Dr. Chilton could not escape once Dr. Lecter decided to put him on the menu. Because he was a psychopath, his inclination to devour any person he chose could not be quenched. Although there has been debate as to whether Jeffrey Dahmer was a psychopath or a sociopath, he had the same propensity as Dr. Lecter for a living victim. And, like Dr. Lecter, there was a romance of sorts before the final serving; and, the person either maniac had over for dinner was unaware of his real place setting at the table.

Jodi Arias carries with her that same air as the characters of Hannibal Lecter or Wild Bill. In her case, as with theirs, the appearance can be and is deceiving. She might seem to be a trustworthy soul, but those who have been around her know that not to be the case — and, as a matter of fact, have given an accurate accounting of her spirit to be soulless. She is nothing more than an empty shell when it comes to containing feelings of empathy, compassion, or real love for a fellow human being. No matter how much Jodi Arias tries to hide her true disposition, the evidence submitted for Trial along with her testimony at Trial have revealed her for what she is — a true psychopath. However, the need does not exist to keep Jodi Arias alive to study the beast within. She may act smarter than the normal person, but certainly does not come close. The belief she seems to hold of being superior to the average human being will not save her because she is not superior. She has skated through life using her sexuality to get whatever it was that she wanted, by zooming in on her prey — a person not up to speed to the controlling nature of [a Hannibal Lecter or] a Jodi Arias. She was able to lock onto an innocent who merely wanted a partner, a marital partner who was Mormon — who made a grave mistake by settling for a sexual partner who had taken on the guise of being Mormon, after he was seduced by a woman he had no idea was possessed with a vast wealth of experience (in the value of 900 numbers and flirty fishing) and the knowledge of seduction.

I think Nurmi was disgusted at the end of his direct by the way he said, “I’m done,” or whatever he said as he walked away from Jodi.

My mind is a bit of a blank (Jodi PTSD, I suppose) on all the times she ran off the rails and Nurmi had to lead her back to the script. However, the last time was the best.

I’m sure that when Nurmi asked her why she bought the gun (for the last time) she responded with the story about going panning for gold with a bunch of men who would drink too much! She basically indicated that, in spite of having killed in self defense not long before, she was putting herself in a risky position with a whole bunch of men and needed the gun for, ta da!, self defense.

It took a bit, but Nurmi finally coaxed out of her the statement that she wanted to kill herself.

    The End

  23. 02/21/2013 at 8:30 am

LOL after watching the trial again last night, I had to laugh because after she made a huge blunder about Travis attacking her after she shot him, Nurmi seemed dejected because he couldn’t even save her. He asked a few times if Travis yelled “kill you bitch” before she shot him, seemingly trying lead her back to the fact that this was impossible because the bullet to the head would have brought him down quickly but Jodi was so far gone in her false confidence and went on ahead and confirmed that Travis yelled and threatened her AFTER the shot and after she broke free from their tussle.

Jodi Arias testified that she told the police made up stories about masked intruders killing Travis and her getting away to fit the forensics.

That’s interesting because the story she told on the stand does not fit the forensics.

The forensics show the knife attack, which she conveniently forgets, killed him and he was already dead by the time she shot him while she was standing over him.

The picture of Travis Alexander lying on the floor with his throat slashed ear to ear and Jodi Alexander standing over him proves she dropped the camera during the knife attack, which lasted 90 seconds.

Blacking out during the knife attack doesn’t prove self defense because even from her own story, the gun shot didn’t kill him. She claims he said “Kill you bitch” after being shot. So she could have stopped stabbing him at any time and get away.

She tried to craft the third version to take premeditated first degree murder off the table by saying she didn’t bring the gun and knife, Travis had a gun in his closet and he got the knife from the butcher block and brought it upstairs to cut rope to bound her hands. Of course she threw the gun, knife and rope away so there is no evidence to match her story.

Even if she shot him when they were struggling for the gun, according to her story it didn’t slow him down and he was a wrestler and stronger than her so if he was going to kill her he would taken the gun away from her and shot her.

I found her testimony from the beginning proof she is a psychopath who only cared about herself and has no regard for human life. It is obvious she feels he did her wrong and deserved to die so he is trying to convince the jury and public that she did society a favor by ridding it of a sexual deviant and violent abuser.

Instead, she has proven she is a black widow who lures men with sex and murders them if she doesn’t get her way. If she hadn’t been arrested, she would have murdered another man with the 9 mm gun she bought and knives she hid in a new rental car.

Death is the only way to stop Jodi Arias from killing again.

It’s obvious to me now why Jodi said she can’t remember what happened after the “accidental” gunshot. It’s exactly for the same reason that she herself explained yesterday when she said she didn’t want people to think she was capable of doing that post-murder. She doesn’t want anything to interfere with the image she’s been trying to portray to the jury as a calm, gentle person. There’s no way she can describe the knife attack w/o revealing the angry, vindictive, rageful person she really is. I hope Martinez questions her mercilessly on that point. I hope She completely destroyed any little tiny bit if credulity she might have had with the jury yesterday when she spoke about her motives after Travis’ murder. Martinez just has to bring it home now!
I know he’s going to be a pitbull and Nurmi’s going to object and she’s going to play up the weak victim angle and Nurmi is going to object every chance he gets (if she doesn’t call on sick today and we don’t have to wait another 5 days for cross!) that he’s badgering her, but the jury already has to have so much doubt at this point, I just hope Martinez points out that she’s trying to continue to control people’s perception of her thru her testimony. Oh and btw when she said that she didn’t come clean with the detective b/c he’s Mormon, OMG I really needed my barf bag at that point! I could tell he was pretty astounded himself by his body language. Oh and when she tried to blame her deceptive behavior on The Secret and the law of attraction OMG can u imagine the jury’s reaction? Talk about a bunch of BS!

Psychopaths think they are smarter than anyone and that everyone thinks like they do. Jodi Arias saw Travis Alexander as mean when he texted her that she was an evil sociopath, rude and inconsiderate and doesn’t care about him at all, he was sick of her bullcrap and lies and she better get a job and pay him back for destroying his Mercedes. She thinks she is the better person because she ignores his feelings and replies: whatever, be happy, I love you. As she sits there smuggly reading the texts, she doesn’t realize that they make him sound like a caring kind man who is trying to deal with this evil sociopath who calls him all hours of the night and sneaks into his bed to seduce him with kinky sex. All we heard out of her mouth for seven days was sex, sex, sex. On the sex tape she says she loves the sex and wants to marry a freaky returned missionary like him. She was consumed with sex and Travis. However, once she made up her mind to kill him, all she cared about was getting away with it. She cleaned up the blood, deleted the pictures, tried to destroy the camera, threw the gun and knife away and did everything to try to throw the suspicion off of her. When she said on national TV :”no jury will convict me” she thought she was going to get away with murder because she thinks she can use her pouty lips, sexy body and soft girlish voice to talk herself out of anything. However, after five years of sitting in jail, she realized it wouldn’t work and played the role of a poor ugly victim who was controlled by a sexual violent deviant who made her slash him to death. Travis Alexander was an LDS elder and successful businessman who just wanted to marry an LDS girl and have a family and got caught up in the web of a black widow.

hottopic08 – I think he was standing by the sink due to all the blood there and she was standing near the shower or door. For the casing to end up in the blood by the sink it would either have had to come from that direction not the scales. The blood spray is going to the left of the sink so I think she had to be more towards the door to the bathroom when she shot him. It sounds as though the shot incapacitated him enough to have slowed him down but conscious enough to try to run away down the hall and she came after him, which would account for all the blood down the hall and outside the bathroom. Why she would drag him back into the bathroom does not make sense to me though. Obviously the shower was turned off but there was only the blood dripping down his body that was in the shower, nothing on the shower walls. I may be completely off in this scenario. I’ll just chalk it up to my vast experience of watching CSI 🙂

I still have so many questions:

The seat in the closet was not near the shelves where she said the gun was. How was she able to reach up and get the gun on the top shelf?

She knew enough to take the safety off the gun in that little amount of time? I have trouble doing that and I don’t that little amount of time she describes.

    The gun was already loaded?

    No ammunition around?

If she really was screaming that loud at that time of night in those houses with paper thin walls, you would think that someone in that street would call 911 or investigate.

Where are the shoes? Were they at the house? If not, then she had to have gotten rid of them as well. If they were in the house, I’m sure the police made note of them.

I think I missed this but where were the roommates that day and the days after?

If he was going to go to Cancun the next day and he had a dog, who was supposed to take care of the dog? Wouldn’t he drop it off somewhere or have someone come by? Or did he already drop the dog off? But no, she testified that she was with the dog in the office. Am I missing something here or am I mistaken that he was leaving the next day?

  38. 02/21/2013 at 12:16 pm

@kat63md, the ME said that the bullet wound to the head incapacitated him immediately. In other words he would have rapidly lost conscious and hit the floor fast because it traveled through his brain. There is no way he could have attacked her and wrestled with her. He would have been down for the count. The ME said that in all likelihood, the shot came last. This can be proven because the bullet casing was laying on TOP of the blood splatter.

She dragged his body back to the bathroom and stuffed him inside the shower to wash away any DNA that might have been transferred from her to his body, which makes sense since they had sex earlier that day — basically to cover her tracks so that there would not be any evidence of her present on the day he was murdered.

Jodi Arias painted herself as a submissive victim who just did what Travis told her to do. She painted Travis as a controlling abuser. On the stand it is clear to me Jodi is a controlling know it all. She even contradicted what Nurmi said just to prove she knows more than him. With Nurmi she controlled her testimony by rambling on and on. Martinez right away let her know who was boss and she was to answer his questions yes or no. She is snotty and obstinate because she doesn’t like it that she isn’t in control. I notice her face bleaches white when he catches her in a lie. I liked the fact that Martinez pointed out she has a double standard. She can call her sister dumb and stupid but when Travis says something about her grandfather he is a mean bad guy. I also loved that he impeached her on the crooked finger and proved it wasn’t broken by Travis Jan. 27, 2008 but June 2008 while she was stabbing Travis to death by bringing up that the finger wasn’t crooked in the picture with her sister May 2008, the video showed her saying her finger was crooked after she was injured June 4, 2008 when Travis was stabbed to death.

I love it that he is using her journal to impeach her made up stories and the journal entry Jan. 20, 2008 where she writes there is nothing significant to write about and talks about turning down four dates. That’s the date she testified she walked in on Travis masturbating to pictures of little boys.

I think Martinez is a professional and his track record speaks for itself. If he was a bully then he would not have won most of his cases. Besides I’m willing to believe that those people who are claiming that he’s a bully would never be picked for a jury. I think the process is a careful one to chose only those who will be able to put all emotions aside and judge based on facts.

Go Martinez! We think He’s picking his battles wisely! He’s already brought attention to her finger! Going forward the jury is going to keep looking at her finger and wonder what her game is! And now those journals…..for crying out loud…..the defense has had how many years to review these books with JA and now they’re sitting there all shocked to hell and asking for more time to review them!! Willmot is sitting there with this “oh shit!” Look on her face!! JA is sitting there being cockey with him and smiling when she can’t come up with an answer fast enough! She’s having trouble because he won’t let her come up with a long drawn out story answer like she has been doing the past two weeks! We think eventually he’ll push her to anger which will be her true to form. This is what was needed, the jury needs to be brought back to reality and why they’re all there! TA died a horrible death at her hands and to allow JA to set the pace and call the shots at this point…..hell no! Travis and his family need justice now. She’s been allowed to trash him and throw witnesses under the bus to her delight! Well JA…..what goes around comes around! I mute my TV and don’t listen to the talking heads. Most of them are defense attorneys and they hate prosecutors and every prosecutor has a different style. Phoenix defense attorneys hate Martinez because he is a tough prosecutor. He rarely pleads cases but takes them to trial and always wins. He is a bulldog, an advocate for the victims and their families and his goal is to get dangerous criminals off the street. Jodi Arias is one of the most dangerous because she comes across as a sexy innocent little girl and yet she admits to committing this horrific crime. I think he is doing a wonderful job of keeping this narcissistic actress under control. Siince Nurmi let her bore jurors to death for seven days with her constant babble, I am sure they are happy Martinez is getting to the nitty gritty and proving Jodi is making up this abuse and pedophilia ad self defense stories to justify her stabbing Travis to death and nearly decapitating him and then shooting him in the head. She told Flores that if she killed Travis she would do it quickly so he wouldn’t suffer. She didn’t shoot him in the back of the head because she wanted him to suffer. She wanted him to see her rage and feel the pain she felt when he refused to go back to her. Most jurors are more interested in the facts and evidence than a prosecutor’s style. Martinez wins cases because he proves them with forensics, facts and evidence. Jodi Arias proved his case for him by blabbing her head off to the cops, the media and on the stand. Every time she opens her pouty mouth she lies. All Martinez has to do is expose the lies and it is all over but the sentencing.

I think Martinez mentioned the “dumb sister” because photos of her sister were one of the few times she showed genuine emotion, so he might have wanted to bait her anger by pointing out she called her sister dumb. She bit and was combative back at him for that comment, so maybe it was strategic to show the jury she is a know-it-all that fights back.

Observer, I’m only the messenger, I already said in comment #45 that I think Martinez is doing an awesome job.

Why did she bring up the finger to Flores? Did he ask her directly about the finger or if there were injuries from that day? If the injury did occur in January, why bring it up in July? Does not make sense from her point of view. She did break it when she was killing him or dragging him, possibly slamming into the wall where the palm print was.

She is so obviously a psychopath….I pray the jury sees it. Her comment about her memory being affected by an angry man yelling at her….oh Lord…..and I am now looking at her mother and sister laughing right now….what can possibly be funny to them? Proud of the psychopath, are they????

  54. 02/21/2013 at 4:29 pm

MMD, my apologies for misunderstanding you about talking heads. I was just reading a punch of comments by the other spectators and confused the two.

Jodi is making herself look like a fool.

    You got nailed, CiCi!

We hope you mean “We got it nailed” and not the way you typed it! Ha ha ha!! We also think for anyone who has been on a jury, your final decision should be based on the facts of the case not whether you like or dislike the Defense or Prosecutor’s approach to the witnesses. HLN analysts keep saying, “oh he’s going to lose the jury if he keeps this up”……she’s a frickin’ murderer people…..a confessed murderer who has left out critical facts in her memory to her liking!! If a jury member makes their decision based on, “oh I didn’t like how he was being mean to her”……well guess what….you shouldn’t be on a jury! Unfortunately…..the cards have been dealt…..the jury is who they are……and it’s better that the facts (lies) are founded now no matter what it takes to get to the bottom of it! I’m sure if it was a man sitting up there in JA’s shoes the Prosecutor would be going after him with both barrels loaded and those analysts would have no problem with it!! Hey….what’s good for the goose is good for the gander….and visa versa!

Question…The pundits on InSession keep referring to the experts that are coming. Isn’t it true that most of the time the defense and prosecution experts cancel each other out?

Nancy, not really…depends which expert is more believable!

I am amazed at people (according to HLN) are impressed at how Jodi is getting the best of Martinez. SHE’S a PSYCOPATH……that explains her behavior completely.

I believe she told Flores the female Ninja cut her finger when she was making up the story blaming two masked Ninjas for murdering Travis. She wanted to show him she was injured too.

It’s really a shame that Jodi Arias will be put to death as she would have had a budding career in Hollywood had she chosen a different path. I’ve watched this trial from day one and its now pretty obvious with her change in tone, fake tears, deep..deep sighs and eye movements that when a lie is coming you better get up on a curb to avoid the wave of B.S.

Wow I have never seen a pathological liar up close. She is calculating and has obviously rehearsed while sitting in jail. I am amazed at her keen ability to remember up to the minute details of occurrences as far back as birth but cannot remember the day she took his life! She has no remorse for Travis or his family, she only cares about herself..Well the great news is…..her pain and suffering will soon end as she will now face God with Travis at his side. Fast-lane to Hell lady!

I feel for the family, they have been very strong as I know this is an unbearably tough time. My prayer for the family is that they stay strong as justice for Travis is coming!

Directors like to create fictional psychopaths and sociopaths on screen, not direct them. Jodi would kill the first actor who dared to upstage her.

Thanks Observer. Missed a lot of the videos about her interrogations. Still, I think that was a really bad mistake on her account. Will trip her up concerning the kicking from Travis.

Lots of talking heads saying Martinez was too aggressive, but I think he wanted to prod her to be a cocky know-it-all and she did not disappoint. How did the meek little girl victim turn into this confident, sarcastic b*tch overnight? If Martinez can get her focused on standing up to him, he may be able to distract her so she will walk right into an obvious lie. Bam! I hope he can walk that fine line of keeping her off guard without seeming bullying, and her desire to outsmart him will be her final downfall.

    This heffa!!!!!!

Oh my word…..she was so smug and rude and snarky on the stand. With that smirk and her trying-to-be-sassy answers she just comes across as fake fake fake!!!

Yesterday I almost, for one fleeting, momentary lapse of sanity, felt sorry for her…..thought maybe she really DOES regret what she did. But today has proven it was all a ruse. I do not know where the Alexander family has the strength to not jump over those chairs and strangle this biatch!!! I was getting so ticked off at work today and almost talking to my screen, ha ha!!

The magazine secret notes bust was AWESOMEEEEE!!!! Can’t wait until Monday!

It’ll be very interesting to see what JM has planned for his next session with JA, the reprobate that she is..I can hardly wait till tomorrow (Monday).
