Hi Virginia. I don’t know who sky Hughes is. Someone tell me

She is the wife of Chris Hughes and they were both very close friends with TA. She is going to be called in the rebuttal case with regard to some text messages by JM.

Hi was wondering if some of you could help clear up something….I thought I heard that the first time Chris Hughes was testifying that the jury wasn’t present? Is that so? I saw on You Tube on day 9 he was questioned again by nurmi….maybe getting his testimony confused. Help please. Thank you. 🙂

This will be remarked upon a lot..but its because the judge does not öwn”the courtroom like she should. It’s her first DP case etc etc, so there are excuses. BUT, if you have ever watched other cases, you can see that the Judge can tell them to cut the bs and get on with the case. Through the years–and a few litigations – I have learned that it makes a BIG difference what sid eof the bed the Judge woke up on. Simple as that.

Regarding the pic discussion: when I was rewatching Det Flores with the defendant, HE was the one that first mentioned he had pictures of them “having sex” whereas I don’t see that; I see naked pictures that ja could have been taken of herself. That may be why she told the story of them “having sex”and the bs with the rope etc etc. If the Detective had not given her a cue, maybe we would have heard something else on the stand. btw-I do loooove when Flores tells her they have pics “during”and her “really”is a sound to behold.

    • MMD
      03/29/2013 at 11:38 am

I don’t think that Det. Flores is under any obligation to tell the truth when he is questioning a suspect or trying to get a confession. He probably was trying to push her buttons and we all know that JA and the truth are not acquainted.

Hey I agree and I dont even want to breathe a sigh against yje Detective who I love. I agree–I mean who knew she’d appear as her own lawyer in the case? – he couldn’t think that far in advance; he wanted to shake her, I understand that. But the way her mind works,… its like the use they made of the gun going off first. If she hears an opening for a story, she grabs it.

She is not in prison clothes so Day 1 I assume

    • 03/29/2013 at 11:53 am

Rober, he also inadvertently gives her the cue to brainstorm the ninja story just as she is on the brink of giving up something.. what we will never know now. I was like no no nooooooooo why did you say that. Now you have given her an out!!! Don’t get me wrong I think he did a great job overall but that was a big mistake right there.

I think he knows it too and would hate re watching it. Probably why he was so staunch in taking one for the team over the gunshot being first testimony.

If you want to check it out it’s orange jumpsuit day, right before she gets her confidence back and her knees come up to the table and she runs with the ninjas done it. In her head its tied to actual events cos the two males almost instantly change to male and female as she rolls the story in her head incorporating all sorts of stuff from memory and entwining the fiction.

      Fascinating to watch.

      I concur with you so much on Jodi’s “R E A L L Y?” response to Flores having pictures.
I can listen to it over and over again!

And I believe Flores said “it’s obvious that you were having sex” not pics of actual having sex..(i think)😊

      03/29/2013 at 9:44 pm

I completely “get” your point here, R from R, and I have been saying the same thing all along.
I do not believe that Travis had ANY IDEA that she was coming to Mesa to see him in June, 2008.
I do not believe that there was any sex, let alone consensual sex that day.
I don’t fault detective Flores for saying it, but not because–as others have stated, which is true– that he was not obligated to tell her the truth during his interrogation.
I just believe that Det. F simply didn’t know all that is now known, and very specifically that Travis had FINALLY had ENOUGH of her LIES and MANIPULATIONS (which is evidenced in those final text messages, explicitly stating so).

Accordingly… I think he coupled the photos with what he heard about their relationship and just assumed that sex was involved.
      (A fairly understandable assumption, yes?)

I have always believed that Travis was Jodi’s “hostage” the entire time she was there in June ’08 (until she murdered him and turned him from “hostage” to premeditated murder victim).
I think those photos were taken ON PURPOSE by Jodi.
      Why???
Well… look at a) the PIGTAILS and then b) her facial expression (since when does this woman not wear make-up and SMILE BIG for the camera?? she didn’t even want her mug-shot to appear “unattractive”, right?? now go look at her FACE in those photos again and tell me if you believe SHE would have ALLOWED Travis to take them– I call B.S. entirely; I believe that she “staged” those photos of herself and I believe that every photo of Travis taken in the last hours of his precious life were taken totally under DURESS)

What guy poses in those stances that Travis “assumed” (was forced, IMO, to assume) in that shower???
      Hands crossed over his chest/heart?????
Turned, with his back to the camera?????

I believe she had him at gunpoint for a long time during what I refer to as the “entire ordeal”.

And THAT is how it was so easy for her to STAB him FIRST, then stab him REPEATEDLY.
SHe possessed the ultimate (in Alice LaVi’s words) “EQUALIZER”.
She had her grandfather’s LOADED .25 on him.
She probably ranted and did bizarre things (like she did in her interviews with Det. F).

Travis was gone from everyone he loved/everyone who loved him as soon as this defendant made up her mind to “erase” him.
She clearly had it all planned out (except that it is very difficult, if not impossible, for a non-professional hit person to leave a “clean” crime scene), and I mean.. she had an escape drive route clearly planned out. (I posted a while back about how many TURNS it takes to get from Mesa AZ to the Hoover Dam-= it may APPEAR to be a “straight shot”, but it is FAR FROM IT. LOTS and LOTS of TURNS, MERGING, etc.)
Also??? How come NO BLOODY SHOE OR FOOT PRINTS down the stair/out the door?????????????
That, to me, is most telling.
She THOUGHT she had it all well planned out… THOUGHT she left no trace behind…
But she may as well have SIGNED HER NAME to the “painting” with that one, random HANDPRINT of HER BLOOD/DNA mixed with Travis’ blood/DNA on the wall, and she may as well have SCREAMED from the witness stand that she was out of whatever alleged FOG she claims to have been in BEFORE SHE LEFT THAT BEDROOM. Otherwise?? Her FOOTPRINTS, in Travis’ blood, would have been all down the stairs and out the door.

      Also–
I believe that Det. Flores also made a human–and fair–assumption that she shot him first. I don’t think he has “taken one for the team” (and Fuck if he did, I don’t want to believe in the prosecution anymore, because I believe in TRUTH and JUSTICE and not “taking one for the team” to distort or otherwise deny the actual evidence, for ANY reason, EVER).
I think he just made what APPEARED to be the logical conclusion, i.e. that a smaller female must have used some sort of “equalizer” in order to gain the upper hand from the start. And I believe he was onto the truth, because I believe that this defendant DID use the gun to CONTROL him from the get-go. But, as a scientific minded person, I will have to go with the medical forensics which make very clear that she STABBED HIM FIRST, repeatedly; then slashed his throat from ear to ear; and then.. when he “wouldn’t STOP!” (breathing//fighting for his very life)… she resorted to using the gun.

I think the only thing that “freaks her out” about killing Travis is that she made mistakes she isn’t sure she can talk/coax/flirt/decieve/lie/trick/manipulate her way out of (although she still seems pretty confident that she will slither out of this “mess”, and I attribute her confidence to an ENTIRE LIFETIME of doing just that in almost every other circumstance she ever faced).

      SIGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I’m sure not everyone else would agree with every detail of how I read this, and the jurors are going to disagree about details as well.
But that doesn’t mean that we here– or they there– cannot, at least, agree that Jodi INTENDED to UNLAWFULLY take Travis’ life.
ANd that is all we need to agree upon at the end of the day.

      but like I said…

This is well thought out and persuasive, although obviously its all still skepticism..However, until fairly recenlyt – as is evident in the blog- I was ‘buying into’ or ‘accepting’ that 1) they had sex 2) they had ‘sexy’ pictures from the afternoon. When I started to look at the evidence & hear her initial questioning, I was able to see them differently. Syntara and MMD have shared some of this experience.

Another ‘assumption’ widely reported – even today in HuffPost- is that she is a “photographer”. What the hell is this reporting? It’s like someone who wants to be an architect, say “I’m an architect” and everyone reports it..( It happens in Hollywood all the time “-Hi I’m a filmmaker. Oh what have you made? Well nothing but I write and direct”) etc etc.

The defendant, like millions and millions of people, takes pictures. For herself and- a few of her associates I guess To say that she was a”photographer” is like saying she was a “battered woman”–both characterizatiuons do disservice to those who 1)are artists and 2) are battered women.

Everything you said makes complete sense. I agree that Travis probably did not know that Jodi was coming to Mesa. I also agree that He didn’t know that she was taking photos of him in the shower. I’m just a little skeptical about her holding the gun on him while he was in the shower. Jodi has some great skills in manipulation. This is evidenced by how she manipulated Dr. Doolittle. I think its possible she manipulated him into taking some of those photos of themselves in the bedroom, as I’m pretty sure he didn’t know she was in the bathroom while he was taking a shower…who really knows. I’m probably wrong but that is what I believe. I looked at the photos they took in the bedroom and Travis doesn’t really look scared to me, he looks more mad to me than anything, kinda like she couldn’t get him to say “no” to taking those photos and that he just gave in to get rid of her.

Hi everyone I have been reading as well as doing some research on my own to gather my own thoughts, and to look at the entire situation objectively. in my understandings there are a lot of checks and balances in the court of law, I may get angry in a way an attorney does things, but they have their reasons. Any Judge is fair and allows many things to come in.
From my education in web development, the media has tendency to fluff everything up to make it look better then it really is, and often times it hurts people, especially when we has the people do not know either party, who are we to judge another. I have been guilty of that myself. The reality is the death penalty is a very intense thing for any individual to be facing. I am trying to put myself in that person’s situation and I would be sick to my stomach, as well as fearful. I have margarine headaches and let me tell you they are horrible. It can make you very sick to your stomach and for myself I have to go to bed and go to sleep to get rid of them. With me stress causes them. Gossip is so destructive, and I never ever liked it. We are all human beings and not one of us are perfect so who are we to make judgements.

    • MMD
      03/29/2013 at 11:44 am

margarine headaches??? LOL I wish we both got those instead of migraines. Stress and barometric pressure are my biggest triggers as well Tami, something we can’t do a damn thing about. 😦

When I was a rape victim and had to testify for 5 days on the stand against my perpetrator husband, no one cared that I had a migraine. I had to persevere. Criminals know that the only time they have power is prior to trial. They are truly DIVA’S…delaying trial for years on end, then during trial completely dictating everything! Makes me SICK!!!!!

Its always easier weeks later to think of a comeback. There is a great French phrase.(.léscalier….”something or other )- which means my thoughts while walking down the stairs after an encounter- I have them all the time. But, it was a wish on my part – and not beyond what I think I could do myself – to say something about his defense of the killer with her made up storiesbeing what a “snake”would do…they’d object but ya can”t unring the bell. It like when asked about his feeling of ja: he said he felt that way “because she killed my friend in cold blood”

      • 03/29/2013 at 12:18 pm

He hesitated for a moment and I was screaming at the TV… well she slaughtered his best friend!!! Then he came out with that. Veracity always cuts to the chase and rings true to the listener.

That info about snake actually came from Searcy
Searcy testified Monday during a prosecutorial misconduct hearing in which he said Chris Hughes, a friend of Arias and her murdered ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander, called him before the trial to talk about why he was on the defense’s witness list. Hughes allegedly told Searcy that defense attorney Kirk Nurmi was a snake for all the sneaky things he had done in the Arias case.
Nurmi supposedly lied to Sky Hughes about some information!

    • 03/29/2013 at 11:57 am

Wurmi and Searcy are both snakelike IMHO. Weazels may be a better term but either/or will do.

Thanks, did not know that Searcy (who seems like a good candidate for snake himself, it seems) was the one who attributed it to him. I guess CH had a few options at the moment and decided to move away from the thought rather than further into it.

She had already posted sketches of him on Ebay that she had already previously done. Did anyone catch the statement during her testimony when she said she wanted to meet with John Dixon because he had a gallery and he wanted to display her artwork? She said “he has Picassos and van Goghs and I was excited about getting my artwork displayed next to them.”

As an art historian, I about lost my mind! First, her “artwork” is pedestrian at best. Further, there are NO works by van Gogh available at any gallery in the world. A gallery is a shop which displays artwork for the purposes of sale; it is a retail shop. There may be one or two Picassos in a well established, first rate gallery, but they would be the equivalent of a napkin sketch, and would be in the tens of thousands of dollars. All Picassos and van Goghs are either in museums or private collections. On the rare occasions they are sold, it is through an auction house like Sotheby’s or Christie’s.

And for the record, E-bay is NOT an art gallery.

The ability to pick ANY piece of information and use it for her advantage has, at times, made my jaw drop.

Also the use made of the Hughes “äbusive relationship” remark. Anything anyone said or did – in whatever context is irrelevant – the defendant will snatch it and use it in her evolving story. YES! Syntara – you see her use, right at the moment – info from Det Flores! I think I also recall her on the stand – on redirect or someredo- saying that Travis told her to keep his gun possession a secret! I mean right in court she’ll add to a story if it serves her. The non chalance when she does it is what kills me.

True but I would have like to hear where she was about to go before hen gave her that idea. I think she would have hung herself even more but its a moot point because it went the way it did.

The most interesting thing is watching how her mind works, how she latches onto it and everything, everything changes in an instant. It will be used to study many many thousands of times over in psych lectures to interview technique.

You know along these lines, I recall searching down either the (much maligned, here) National Enquirer or The Globe, which were the ONLY publications to publish the interview the LA detectives did with OJ the day after the murder when he pranced in there without a lawyer and answered their questions. I remember thinking that a couple of NYC detectives or any of a number of Federal officers, could have tied him up in knots for years to come. he had an answer for everything–like ja she “cut his hand on glass” and well, he “bled all the time”around the house. I mean..it was amazing to read. But it was a case where a LOT happens, because stories get set in sort of stone (current felon excepted). Without the Detective äuggesting”others I too wondered what she would say.

OT – do you remember that Greta Van Susteren from CNN, now FOX News, went to OJ’s celebration party he threw when he was released? Disliked her ever since but then again, she was a defense attorney, so that kind of explains some of it and she didn’t interview him.

Complete agreement. I wanted to hear what she was about to say as well. I think I screamed at the TV during that moment. And there was a time she was on the stand that she was about to say something and Juan objected. I forget now what the line of questioning was but I really wanted to hear her answer. I think her response would’ve been more favorable to Juan but we’ll never know now.

Since the recent testimony of Dr. Magoo and AL, I have been wondering about something. How do you think JA handled her examination by the prosecution expert witness Dr. Janeen Demarte that we expect to see in rebuttal?

I wonder if she, (a) played the poor pitiful fake abused Jodi trying very hard to mold herself in line with her testimony (lies) and the defense EW’s diagnosis/opinion, or (b) as we witnessed on the stand in her cross with JM, did she present herself with that “in your face” arrogant, rude and disrespectful behavior knowing this was a witness for the prosecution?

I believe it’s (b) because JA just can’t help herself and anything or anyone that goes against her will witness her ire, even if her life depends on it!

    • MMD
      03/29/2013 at 12:40 pm

I agree with you on b. She truly can’t help herself.

        03/29/2013 at 12:44 pm

I think its b also but I can’t WAIT for that witness.

    • 03/29/2013 at 12:56 pm

The most interesting dynamic in that exchange would have been (as we saw with the juror questions) JA’s inability to read between the lines and lack of insight as to why she is being asked what she is being asked.

Having no clear understanding of possible motive (ie her inability to know Det Flores was playing her as much as she was attempting to play him) would likely make her very wary of answering anything until Dr Demarte was able to gain her trust and lull her into a false sense of security so to speak.

Unless. like with the juror question, she assumed no underlying agenda and therefore felt she was smart enough to be manipulating the exchange from the get go.

I’d have loved to see or hear a recording of it I’m very looking forward to at least excerpts being played in court. Unlike most assessors Dr Dodgy, of course, did not record his interviews with her. I’m tending to assume J Demarte did.

70’s to 90’s but the high isn’t very often although part of July last summer was unbearable with bad humidity. Well bad humidity for us because we’re not used to it. Our air conditioners are open windows because it usually cools down at night and there’s a nice breeze.

The evening usually really cool down around the middle of August but it is still nice during the days and we have a great Indian summer. It’s really a tourist magnet in the summer because the beaches and golf courses are plentiful and awesome for such a small place.

I think this has been the uneasy fascination the whole time. I only tuned into the case when I heard a defendant was going to take the stand in a murder case. THAT drew me out of curiosity since it’s not usually something one would get to see. Little did I know what I was in for. Barley able to listen to the direct because of that lumbering oaf. Then. Well, then the Juanster. From then on, I was hooked. Read all I could; everywhere I could. Settledf in here when I felt a combo of outrage, anger, curiosity, intelligence and wit.

The closest thing to this defendant, in my own experience of life and study, is Iago in Othello.

Iago is known as a character who is evil personified. He can be charming, is bright and witty, but is consumed with destroying the happiness between the Moor, Othello and his fair skinned wife, Desdemona. For centuries people have debated his possible motives. To some it is regret for being passed over for a top position; to others it is a jealousy of the relationship he sees with Othello and Desdemona and wishes to destroy it.. He plants thoughts which evoke great jealousy. He taunts his victim by telling him to be wary of “the green eyed monster”-jealousy “- but executes a complex maneuver to cause unbearable jealousy in Othello , causing him to kill his beloved. Before killing himself, Othello finds out the truth and tells all that he “loved not wisely, but too well”. Iago remains silent and taunts even when called the devil by Othello.
The ease with which Iago lies, and the evil that he does, is haunting.

      • 03/29/2013 at 2:57 pm

Yeah Robert, I thought it SOOOOOOO bizarre she referenced that in the phone call to Travis. That is what truly makes me think the psycho shots are deliberate maybe that more than anything else.

Her almost zealous need to find symbolism in everything to justify her actions.

This in itself is fascinating! Absolutely astounding to put it more accurately!

She tells the truth but it’s in the nuance. That’s the game, “There I’ve told you but you won’t even know I’ve told you/”

I believe that first message re” Othello was her speaking to him in death. Telling him why she did it and maybe how even she was struggling with the motive. She knows what she is but doesn’t want to be that way. Get me?

It was mentioned to me about moving to Arizona because of so many allergies as well as being a severe asthmatic. It takes money to make that move especially when I am on a limited income. According to an Elder of the LDS Church, there are several reasons for excommunication, but three are mandatory: murder, apostasy, and plural marriage. In explaining why apostasy, this Elder wrote “we lie to ourselves as we attempt to justify rather than to change.” If that isn’t Jodi Arias, I don’t know what is.

I would seriously doubt she would ever be eligible for reinstatement via re-baptizing. She will never admit the truth, so I guess it will depend on whether she will be able to convince whatever tribunal council is involved that she is worthy. Not being LDS, I don’t know how easy that is to do.

Just wanted to post this quickly. Here is the first link I found for MCMI-111 – read towards the end regarding scoring.

      I love Juan…

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millon_Clinical_Multiaxial_Inventory

The MMPI – The Minnesota Multiphasic Inventory asks 567 questions which are frequently repeated in order to ‘test’ the honesty, value system, moral conscience etc. of the person. So, if answer to the question “Do you like peanut butter?” and I respond “no”, there will be other questions asking the same question, but with a different twist: “Do you have milk when you eat Peanut Butter & Jelly?” Sorry, that’s the best I could come up with at the moment.
Anyhow ~ back to the MMPI used with the primary “purpose of identifying, assessing, and diagnosing personality characteristics and psycho-pathological illness” socially determined pathology. It’s rarely ever used in the general population now unless there is a real good reason to administer it – the insurance companies have to be convinced first and the instrument is really expensive to give.
      Still love Juan….

I’m presently watching recaps of Jodi moments on HLNtv and she actually says,”Anal sex was sex to me but not too Travis”! This was day of baptism. Does she know what that sounds like?
Jodi has been dumped from the church, call it what u like! They got rid of her so fast she’s still on spin cycle. I have no church affiliate and never have. I was married in an United Church which is what people did at that time if u didn’t have a church u regularly attended.
Decent Donation, book your day. Beautiful Church. but aren;t they all? i know so many people that have gotten pretty messed up over religious beliefs, LDS and more so I would be the last person to want to get into a serious conversation about it. The 3 topics not brought up at a good time and WE all know what they are!! Sex. Religion and Politics!
    Have I missed anything? LOL
Happy Good Friday to u All!!!

I was raised a Baptist, but I do have family members that are Mormons, they too are very good. Honestly I look at it having a personal relationship with The Lord Jesus Christ, exchanging my will for his will. The word is living it is asking him to come into our heart and to believe in him. About Jody and her defense attorneys
I pray for the the Lord’s will to be done.

That’s because I changed the settings…you have reply, quote and edit now. Using reply is faster than quote and most have moved to that. It also stops alot of the comments going into moderation!

When folks use reply, the person they are replying to (at the top right of the reply) name will show in blue. Click the blue name and it will take you to the original post and you can view what the post was about. Then hit your back button and you will be taken back to the reply post.

I wanted to share with everyone I am a pet groomer and Canine trainer, taking a break from college on animal behavior. If a person is cruel to animals, chances are they could be cruel to humans. If you really want to know the best person to ask questions is an veterinarian. They have just as much education as human Doctors if not more.

I will post my two Lhasa also for you all to see and you will see how well behaved they are, it takes slot of love and patience to work with animals and to understand their behaviors.

I have a lot of fun as well as many laughs when it comes to grooming, I am not sure who is more tried the dog or myself. The owners and I have many laughs, I do not believe in using a muzzle, if a dog is in pain or not doing well, I will not groom until the dog is seen by a vet. Once you earn a dog’s trust they are like putty in your hand.

Coverage of Det Flores interviews Part 1 & 2: (The best clips that I can find at the mo)

  36. 03/29/2013 at 3:07 pm

    Schaeffer:

This is my post back to Chrissie re: photographs

Chrissie I’d like to get your opinion on it, I’ll check back with you later today
    http://blog.eyesforlies.com/2013/03/travis-alexanders-last-photograph.html

Those mirror face shots so sad I was nearly in tears analysing them. (sorry it’s long but it’s what came to me as I looked at them) This is actually the second draft I lost the first after it’s completion I had it on clipboard and stupidly cut something over the top and couldn’t find an app that gave me clipboard history access. I think the first was much better than this. Darn it!

    On the surface.

Left: Eyes: Sad sad. The water droplet tearlike, almost in the centre of his eyes. Deep sense of sorrow, regret and anguish. Nose: flared nostrils indicative of internal processing, he’s thinking. he’s on the alert and judging the situation very carefully . Mouth determined, serious, considered.

The right is almost the same but in reverse.

Right; Eyes: determined, not angry but concentrated, focussed an almost primal resolve blasts from them. Nose: indicative of sadness complete with the water droplets almost representative of a runny nose from the tears of the adjacent picture. Mouth: lips almost perceptivity quivering with sadness.

    Interpretation:

“I’ve let myself down here, I shouldn’t be doing this, once this is finished she’s NEVER coming back I’m so through with her. She’s history. This is bad really bad. Oh how I want her out of this house”

    Possible Scenario (1);

He thought she was gone or she had ‘volunteered’ to clean the downstairs area while he showered. (Let’s go with the latter).

He’s upstairs washing her out of his hair. Relieved it’s nearly over. She’ll be gone soon.
But…. Once he is in the shower she immediately stops the cleaning, leaving the appliance in the middle of the floor.

She goes upstairs to kill him with the knife hidden on her. Entering the bedroom first she picks up the camera to facilitate the pretext of the ‘photo shoot’

She walks in on him in the shower. His reaction “Oh god she’s here what do I do?” “She wants a photo shoot? WTH?”

He is resistant doesn’t want to do it. As usual she won’t let up he give in “Oh ok then but I’m not happy about it”

He complies because he has no justifiable tangible reason to refuse. There is nothing outwardly wrong with her request he just FEELS danger with every part of his being and doesn’t want to do it. He’s so sick of being forced to do things he doesn’t want to do but, as usual gives in to her to avoid the endless stream of coercion. He’s so sick of feeling like pounding his head against the wall every time he has to go through this behaviour with her.

It does his head in living in this constant state of flux she keeps him in and she seems to have an innate ability to sustain it endlessly.

Everything inside him screams for him not to do it but without solid reasons, how can he not? It’s against his nature. He goes along with the shoot reluctantly taking the poses she requests hoping to be rid of her as soon as it’s done and really wash her out of his hair.
    Comparison of Scenario to Photos

Uncannily, the mirror images of the photos reflect this inner turmoil very accurately.
Sadness and disappointment with himself for allowing her to win again. He’s not going to be pushed into anything anymore she’s out of here, gone done with no matter what he’s not going to relent again. He can’t take it anymore. It’s sad but he has to finally admit to himself she won’t change and he has to get shed of her.

Sadly, Within the next two minutes he’s desperately fighting for his life and wishing he had thrown her out before this, in under 3 minutes he’s dead.

    Analysis

The reluctance is not born out of a dislike for shower shots it’s because he feels incredibly uncomfortable and his inner voice is screaming at him that she’s up to no good.

He doesn’t know it but this exchange and how it makes him feel has a name. It’s called FOG. She scares him. He’s filled with Fear and foreboding but because he is a nice person even now he is compelled to comply out of Obligation even feeling a sort of Guilt because really he has no sound reason for suspecting the worst; it’s all circumstantial. Although he doesn’t know that word he knows the feeling and would identify with it instantly.

it’s psychological and emotional abuse. Which is why people who suffer this over a long period of time and manage to get out from it’s grasp often need years and years of counselling, many never fully recover.

As for the reluctant attitude in the photos – It’s probably why she originally said he had to be talked into them, by which she inadvertently revealed her coercive nature. She had to explain why he didn’t look enthused about it. Low self esteem and non assertive? yeah right look at the interviews she does with Det Flores to get a feel on that issue.

Sooo scenario 2 now replaces scenario 1. Based on more info and analysis of more evidence since brought to light. Kinda of a story so far.. extrapolated from all evidence and and hypotheses that can, in some way be corroborated.

    • Chrissie A
      03/29/2013 at 4:32 pm

I agree with your scenario (brilliantly authored as usual) although I think she had the camera hanging around her neck for the most part, then removed it hastily, as it was getting in the way while she was dragging Travis back to the shower. and it landed on the floor. (In a few of the trip photos where she has the camera it is always around her neck)

      • 03/29/2013 at 4:40 pm

I pondered this, Chrissie I tried to imagine stabbing someone really quickly with a camera dangling round my neck and him sitting lower than me and I saw it getting in the way and allowing him to jump me. So I decided against it. Your thoughts?

PS the one above is the old one Schaffer asked for the previous works in progress #2 is posted yesterday in case you didn’t realise.

Also remember the strap in the bag found umm I forget where but I think the finger print girl walked us through that bit. Do you remember? Wasn’t that the strap from this new cam which was Travis’?

      • NancyB
        03/29/2013 at 8:28 pm

The only problem is that the cord for hanging camera around her neck was found in the camera box on Travis’ bedroom floor and it was not blood spattered, which it most certainly would have been after the slaughter she completed that day. That’s why I think that she didn’t inadvertently put the camera in the washing machine. I think she purposefully put it there cause it was covered in blood or blood splatter.

This is probably the last thing I should be posting on Good Friday but I wanted MMD in particular to know (because we discussed this) that I’ve overcome my ambivalence towards the DP for JA. I’m now firmly on the side of being pro DP for her. Up till now I’ve been primarily focused on just getting the first degree conviction. But I was just thinking, God forbid, what if one of my nephews met the same fate as Travis and that just put me over the edge. It’s not something you could ever get over because nothing would ever bring them back. And that’s how Travis’ family must feel, and then to top it off having to relive his murder every day in that courtroom. I’m sure if she had been willing to take a plea deal of life w/o parole and admitted to first degree it would have been seriously considered by the prosecutor and the family.

      03/29/2013 at 4:40 pm

Thanks for sharing Lisa. I know how hard you’ve struggled with this as have I. It took me so long to be comfortable with my feeling about this DP in particular, but now I feel fine about it. I’m still against the DP in other cases though so this, for me, is truly an exception to the rule. Even the guy whose clemency hearing I watched made me queasy when I found out he had been executed and really bothered me.

I’ve never felt this way before and I never want to feel like this again. I bet you probably feel the same way I do. Thankfully I live in a country where it’s moot point so hopefully I’ll never find myself in this position again.

        03/29/2013 at 6:43 pm

MMD, where do you live? I know you’ve mentioned it before but I can’t remember. It’s strange here in the States because it depends on the state. And also more and more states are voting against the death penalty now. There have been many studies which of course support opposition to it, like the fact that minorities are disproportionately given the death penalty, and you’ve probably heard of the Innocence Project which has freed people on death row who have been proven innocent with DNA testing.
And of course there’s the cost. I forget the statistics but I think it takes 20 years or so before all appeals are exhausted. It’s just kind of a weird thing all the way around, but it’s hard not to support it for some people!

I’ve seen quite a few posts here just like yours. Because of this hideous Monster that is JA, many have switched over to the dark side.

I’m in Calif which is a DP state (I think you are too, but maybe I’m thinking of another Lisa). For me, it depends on the criminal. I think: Scott Peterson, Richard Ramirez aka the Night Stalker, Charles Manson (although when CA overturned the DP years ago he’s now serving Life and couldn’t be reverted back to DP when CA reinstated the DP) I say “flip the switch”. But the brutality of JA just appalls many of us to the core.

And for those not familiar with Richard Ramirez aka the Night Stalker: He would break into peoples homes in the middle of the night (during the hot summer months when many would sleep with windows open) and brutally murder them and I mean BRUTALLY! Will spare you all the savage details.

The homes were picked at random and were all over the place. One house was in Burbank, CA which is where I was living at the time and located only blocks from my house. I would have nightmares and wake up in the middle of the thinking he was standing in my bedroom. It was terrifying!!!

When he was finally recognized and captured by mere citizens, they beat the crap out him!!! I wish they’d just finished him off then and there! Sparing many of us the gruesome details of his crime. So, I’ve always supported the DP.

And would it surprise anyone to know, that when I looked up the list of Inmates on CA Death Row, there are actually 2 males with the last name of Arias???? Perhaps some of JA’s relatives??? With what we know about JA’s family it think it’s very possible!

      • 03/29/2013 at 5:31 pm

        Hey Tracy,
Not sure if Lisa M. Is from CA but I am and I too am pro DP. I have debated this in my mind and with other for many yrs and have come to the conclusion that DP is the only just and safe sentence for some individuals.
I still get irritated every time one of the Manson maniacs come up for parole and a family member from the victims has to show up to the hearing even though many years have gone by. What a horrible experience for the family members to have to endure!
I voted to retain the DP during our recent election because I don,t trust that a life sentence really means life. Also, some crimes deserve the death sentence.

      • Crystal Harris
        03/30/2013 at 2:08 pm

I’ve always been pro DP. But I can now firmly say, as the victim of a violent, brutal crime myself, that as long as the criminal is alive, he can continue to torment and abuse his victims and their loved ones in a very “proxy” sort of way. My perpetrator husband was not eligible for the DP fir his crime, but my boys and I have suffered so much from his antics while he’s been in prison. He’s had nothing better to do than think of ways to provoke and annoy. I imagine this is only aggravated multiple times over when it’s for murder and the torment is of the victim’s loved ones. Anything that can alleviate it is a good thing.
There is a new strain of DP opponents, at least here in CA, that opposes the DP not on moral grounds, but strictly financial and practical. To me, this is surrender to a ploy that was deliberately instituted by the hard core DP opponents to just make the DP so “hard” that supporters give up.

Yeah Robert, I thought it SOOOOOOO bizarre she referenced that in the phone call to Travis. That is what truly makes me think the psycho shots are deliberate maybe that more than
I believe that first message re” Othello was her speaking to him in death. Telling him why she did it and maybe how even she was struggling with the motive. She knows what she is but doesn’t want to be that way. Get me?

I think that she is incapable of that thinking. It’s a very acute way of seeing it, but she seems too shallow for that. I am assuming that the play was playing in Ashland during the weeks after the murder. They have a well regarded Shakespeare Festival there.Just freaky is all I can say. If she were Hannibal Lecter I’d see the Psycho and Othello being planned nuances of the kill. Perhaps I’m being swayed by gende trainingr; maybe I’m resisting the forces you see more clearly. What a sick, depraven character, though eh?.

Yeh too be honest Robert… I think about it and I can’t get past feeling it’s deliberate. She is shallow thinking in everything bar her ability to manipulate. In that one area she is a master.

No convincing evidence either way. as per the shower shots. Just so much circumstantial evidence it’s very very hard to dismiss.

Those mirror images of Travis are haunting and totally gripping. Each time I look at them I feel a wave of nausea.

  44. 03/29/2013 at 3:55 pm

There was a post mentioned on the Justice for Travis Facebook page about Dr Schlock leaving a message on the Jodi is Innocent page so I ventured over to the “innocent” site to pick it up:
“Thanks to all of those who have expressed support for my testimony. While I can’t comment specifically on the case until it is over, rest assured that the PTSD diagnosis is real as is memory loss during acute stress. Those were the points I tried to make and hope that the message was clear enough for the jury to understand. Again, thanks for your support.” — Richard M. Samuels, Ph.D.
Of course it could well be fake but wouldn’t really be a surprise if its real given his bias.

    • 03/29/2013 at 4:17 pm

I hope it’s fake but with him – wouldn’t surprise if it’s not! They should get a subpoena do an IP search if it’s him that’s more misconduct for lack of objectivity!

    Hi to all!

Real life got in my way, thus my absence. Still trying to catch up on the last 5 days and may have to give that up!

Here’s a short vid about what one professional thinks of the defense’s sorry ass so called expert, Dr. Richard Samuels.

Oh, I must tell you all that posting about that psychopathic killer in my childhood was sooooo helpful to me. The responses were way more than I ever had any expectation of and were worth their weight in gold to me. Really. The only person I had ever told about it was my husband. I had tried at various intervals as an adult to try to talk with my siblings about it, because we had lived through that time together, however, even bringing up that subject always elicited the same very brief and negative response that “it was too sad” to even discuss. So a MILLION thanks for allowing me to post it Donchais and I love all the hilarious peeps on this blog! So many of your senses’ of humor are not just uplifting but your collective timing and quick wits are delightful!!!

I’m glad that you finally were able to get your words and feelings out of your head and heart so that now you might be able to be less traumatized. Fun facts about the jails run by Sheriff Arpaio, the self proclaimed “toughest sheriff in America” who is in charge of eight jails. He has some pretty radical ideas, but at least he is consistent. NOBODY gets special treatment, including Jodi Arias.

Effective as of March 2013, all prisoners have to pay $1/day to cover the cost of their meals. If they don’t have adequate money in their canteen account, they will still be fed, but will run a tab, which will have to be paid for either with the wages from their inmate jobs or with money sent in by family and friends. Prisoners will not be allowed to purchase anything from the canteen if they have an outstanding amount due for their meals. If they do have adequate money in their account, they may purchase candy and toiletries, such as shampoo and toothpaste. The monthly limit for canteen accounts is $290/month, and a Snickers bar costs $2.

Prisoners are fed 2 meals a day, totaling 2600 calories. Instead of breakfast, lunch, and dinner, they get brunch and dinner. Brunch usually consists of a bologna or peanut butter sandwich, a piece of fruit, and, if they have been donated, maybe cookies or crackers. Though 2600 calories is more than sufficient, they aren’t good calories. In addition to food donated directly to the jail, they use excess food donated to food banks, surplus food, second and overrun food, and foods purchased at “special buy opportunities.” (I saw several pictures of the meals, and they do look ghastly. The bread and fruit look almost spoiled, and the majority of the dinners contained unidentifiable food.)

There is no coffee, because it has no nutritional value and only adds to the cost of meals.

    There is no smoking.

He took away all free weights because he didn’t want the inmates to build up their muscles while in jail, only to be better able to beat up people.

The Sheriff took away all TVs in the recreation areas, but found out out there is a Federal law requiring cable TV in prisons. (I know, I know.) He restored the cable, but only allows C-Span, The Disney Channel and The Weather Channel. He allows The Weather Channel so prisoners will know how hot it is going to be working on the chain gang and sleeping in the tents. When prisoners complained the 128 degree temperature in the tents was inhumane, Arpaio replied “It’s between 120 to 130 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents there too, and they have to walk all day in that sun, wearing full battle gear and getting shot at, and THEY have not committed any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!”

He also bought the Newt Gingrich lecture series on US history and has it piped into the jails. (That in and of itself would be cruel and unusual punishment for me.)

Does anyone know if the jails in Arizona are air conditioned? In Texas, the only parts of the prisons that are air conditioned are the work areas; therefore, you can either work and stay cool, or sit in your cell and roast. Texas is the only state that allows death row inmates to work, though not all are eligible to do so.

I just love this Sheriff 🙂 I saw the meals as well. Peanut butter 5 times a week and mystery goop for dinner. The bread though is fresh baked every day and they only receive a small spoon. Women who are pregnant get a slightly different meal, no bologna because of the nitrates but I would imagine it would be just as awful.

  55. NancyB
    03/29/2013 at 5:14 pm

The current expert’s testiphony infuriates me. She has represented true and real victims of horrific experiences with domestic violence.

LaViolette provided expert witness testimony for Brenda Clubine, a woman who was convicted of 2nd degree murder for killing her abusive husband, Robert. Clubine served 26 years of a 16 year to life sentence but in 2008, Clubine was released due to a successful “habeus” petition. Her conviction was vacated and she instead was allowed to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 7 years – she was released for time served.

At the time of her trial in 1984, the “battered women’s syndrome” wasn’t legally accepted in self defense arguments in the state of California. Clubine suffered a great deal of physical injuries at the hands of her husband, including a fractured skull, shattered jaw, broken collarbone and cracked ribs. Brenda Clubine filed more than 42 police reports against her husband for battery, and was seeking a divorce at the time of the killing. Clubine wasn’t able to introduce her medical records of police reports during her trial, because the abuser wasn’t there to defend himself. Any witnesses to the violence were not allowed to testify due to “hearsay” issues.

During her time in prison, Clubine co-founded “Convicted Women Against Abuse”, and teamed with Olivia Klaus and filmed a documentary called “Sin by Silence”, which tells Clubine’s story and the story of countless others who remain behind bars. Clubine continues to be an advocate for abused women. Clearly that case differs from this case. case.

It will never compute for me why she made the decision to basically sell out for the money and national exposure. Regardless of how many MSM outlets praise her accolades and “folksy style” on the stand, or that she seems “genuine, honest and prepared”; I still remain very wary.

She is knowingly misrepresenting the facts to benefit this dangerous psychopath to attempt to fool the jury into giving a sentence of 2nd degree or manslaughter. Shame on her!

I no more believe that Travis was a “deviant” sexually or otherwise then I believe that he gave JA ANY reason to fear for her life. Just more of her self serving lies.

The letter that JW was getting ALV to “summarize” yesterday, the judge long ago had previously ruled was not admissible and is not in evidence.

It infuriates me that she is allowing this testiPHONY of so called summarizing! Thanks so much Chrisse for posting Chris Hughes testimony!

Travis never wrote this letter. When I reviewed that link of Chris Hughes testimony from back in Jan – about the 10th trial day – he basically admitted to Nurmi in open court that he had referred to Nurmi as ‘a lying snake’ in a conversation that he had had with another snake, Gus Scercy.

Chris also adamantly testified that the letter was a total fake, even though Nurmi lied in open court and stated that a hand writing analyst had confirmed that Travis wrote it.

The whole defense strategy is despicable. Jodi has testified to the Domestic Violence, so there is already evidence of DV before the jury. Now, Jodi is a liar extraordinaire, so the jury might choose to disbelieve her. Hopefully.

And Alyce is going to say (probably) that Jodi’s behavior is consistent with that of a victim of DV, and that a reasonable victim of DV would have interpreted Travis’s alleged “body slam” on June 4 as requiring a response with deadly force.

The reason for trying to prove this is that, Arizona has a special self-defense law for victims of DV. If you are a victim of DV, your response to an attack is judged by how a reasonable victim of DV would react, rather than how a “reasonable person” would react.

    ONE BIG PROBLEM.

Jodi never SAID during her testiphony that she interpreted Travis’ attack as requiring a response with deadly force. She said she never intended to shoot him at all, and thought the gun was unloaded!

She believed that his actions justified a “scaring him off with a gun he would have known was unloaded” response, not a “shooting him in the head response.”

So, I’m hopeful that Juan will object to her testifying to how a reasonable DV victim would respond since Jodi never claimed to have responded that way. Frankly, I hope he objects to her testiphony in its entirety as irrelevant, for the same reason.

    • truejustice

We all know Jody is manipulative and a lier, she has already admitted she murdered Travis, the lie is it is not self defense. Premeditated facts and evidence do not lie.

      • Douglme
        03/30/2013 at 12:48 am

She said she didn’t intend for the gun to go off because it might be construed as premeditated, don’t you think?

      • Crystal Harris
        03/30/2013 at 2:26 pm

You are so right. Even if Jodi was totally abused and it was well documented (devil’s advocate here), that does not mean this murder was justified. At THAT moment, her own life had to be in mortal danger from Travis, AND, she had to have no alternatives of escape like running out of the bedroom away from a wet, naked man who obviously couldn’t pursue her out of the house in that condition….

    • MMD
      03/29/2013 at 5:44 pm

Nancy she basically whored herself out to the highest bidder and is funding her retirement. When she starts quoting books, magazines, movies, etc. as example ya know she’s a flake. All she is doing is regurgitating what JA told her and the jury already knows that JA is a liar. Thus her whole testiphony is based on lies.

What really got me is when she tried to get in inadmissible info through the back door courtesy of Gidget. I think that JM is just giving her time to hang herself and it will not be pretty once he is done with her.

The entire defense case is an insult to true domestic abuse victims/survivors and to those with PTSD! It is despicable and I think that the jury will feel the same way as we do!!!

      • Crystal Harris
        03/30/2013 at 3:07 pm

Gosh, MMD, I don’t see her bias against men. I just see her as a hired hack. In this case her paying client is a woman, so she comes off saying the man is the bad guy. But in general, her whole life’s work of setting up these “men’s groups” for anger management has totally helped men get out of legal trouble for abusing women. I have blamed it for years as a major factor as to why I stayed after my husband hit me the 1st time in 1998. I called the police, filed for divorce, and was out the door. But as we went thru the legal system since I did not back down from pressing charges, my husband was sentenced to 52 wks of Anger Mgmt group for DV. At the time, I’d never heard of this. It seemed like a wonderful thing for him…he would get help and we could keep our marriage. I loved my husband. Turns out the group really taught him a lot of “tricks of the trade”…things to do so that he couldn’t get prosecuted in the future. It made him far more manipulative. It was very unhealthy. He got glowing grades and reviews from his instructor throughout the process.
BTW, he is on his 3rd go of 52wk DV Anger Mgmt now (latest sessions taken while in prison). It’s an f’in joke!

It angers me that she is using the battered woman syndrome, it is part of her defense but it will all come out in the end. It is totally wrong to make a mockery out this situation. I think it is misusing services.

    • truejustice
      03/29/2013 at 5:38 pm

angers me too.. but I totally get it. What other defense did she have? She tried to say she wasn’t there (oops they have evidence) , She tried to use the intruders (oops she took pictures ). She can’t use accident (to much violence) , and she can’t use mentally ill defense (life time commitment) , and she cant use the truth ( no legal protection ) .

What I don’t get is why someone who actually works with domestic violence victims would testify on he behalf. I did hear that she is a huge man-hater even though she works with abusers.

Interesting. I had been thinking that insanity would be a better defense for JA than self-defense. It would be much easier to prove for one!! So I’ve kind of been wondering why the defense didn’t go for it. I figured it was b/c an insanity plea never works. But does it really call for lifetime commitment?

      • truejustice
        03/29/2013 at 9:43 pm

LisaM .. I don’t know if insanity would actually be a life commitment but I know that once your in the system and have been declared mentally incompetent it is very hard to get out. Many states even have laws that extend the sentence for those who have been diagnosed – indefinitely. Say someone is found criminally “insane” and they get sentenced to 15 yrs. Some states say that they can keep those inmates until they deem them no-longer a threat.

Add to that, the new avatar I tried to use wasn’t even there….which is the only reason I was doing this in the first place for the love of pete. I mean wth, why can’t any name be assigned to a particular email address???? I’m losin’ it big time by now as I detest s**t like this. Then I tried to switch it over to a new email so maybe it would leave this one alone. No such luck. It’s still here.
Okay, (and no, I’m not finished yet…lo siento), so I decide to heck with this bs I’m gonna delete this whole thing. Well, guess what? THEY won’t let you DO that. What, am I dealing with Mao or Stalin right now? Hello? Even Fakebook allows you to do that! WordPress can kiss my tiny hiney!
Any help would be more appreciated than you could know. I do not like it when IT beats me up…I’m a little old lady after all, not rabid as some might think (hehehe)…and I used to be so good at this (no, I mean really, I even designed my own blog a hundred years ago using html & color match stuff and everything)…anyways, just about time to pop an IPA thank goodness.
Thank you for any help you can give. ***spittal & drool as in bill the cat***

    Lisa :
    Hey Tracy,
Not sure if Lisa M.

It might’ve been you that I was thinking of here in CA. Are you in the “suburbs of L.A.”??? If so, you are the one I was thinking of.

And you are so right about the Manson family members. Every time Sharon Tate’s sister has to show up, it breaks my heart all over again.

    • 03/29/2013 at 6:09 pm

Tracy-yes, I’m live in the burbs of L.A. Terrible what those families go thru just about every yr since one of the cult comes up for parole each yr.

    • NancyB
      03/29/2013 at 6:21 pm

Ditto that, Lisa & Tracey. I voted in last election to keep DP for the very same reasons you state above! All of hearts break for Sharon Tate’s sister for real and then when you extrapolate out to all the families that just like her live a life time of having to attend these hearings and parents who state that when they die that another child or family member will carry their presence on. It’s truly heartbreaking.

    • Lisa M
      03/29/2013 at 6:34 pm

Hi, Lisa! Great name. Anyway, no, I’m not from CA. I’m from MA. We don’t have the death penalty here, but I can think of one case where it definitely should have been used here. A little boy who was sexually assaulted and killed by two men. Jeffrey Curley. One of the killers got life w/o parole but the other one somehow got second degree and was just up for parole. He waived it for some reason, maybe due to the outcry, but will come up for parole again in five years unless he requests it sooner. Jeffrey was only ten when he was killed, the picture of an innocent boy, loved to play baseball, and if ever there was a case crying out for the death penalty it was this one. The poor family has been through hell and back.
Anyway, my usual feeling on the DP is it’s warranted only if the victim is a child and/or if there’s significant torture involved. And I think Travis was tortured, so there’s that, and I think also just the way the defense has tortured this family too has swayed me. I’ve never had anything but feelings of utter revulsion and disgust towards Jodi, so it isn’t that I’ve changed my mind towards her. In any case, it’s not up to me, so we’ll see what happens.

      • NancyB
        03/29/2013 at 8:40 pm

    Schaeffer :
She may also be sketching the jury, as a whole or certain individuals.

Hi guys! I’m not an art expert but I even know that was BS when she said it. That’s when I knew this girl was delusional and would say anything.

    • MMD

Plus a complaint was provided to e-Bay (JA’s art gallery of choice NOT) and they got some of her stuff taken down. They were working to get everything else removed as well. I guess Mama is gonna have to depend on her book for money instead of JA’s scrawling.

    Schaeffer :

Well at least she got booked into a place that make her follow strict rules. I bet she hates that. Could call from the Sheriff comparing their sorry asses to the men and women surviving in worse conditions in Iraq to protect our freedom.

Michael Welner has developed The Depravity Scale. It’s still in the research stage (been that way for several years now as I filled out the survey many years ago). I think it is a very useful tool. If any of you are interested in becoming a part of the research so this tool will be eventually used then please complete the survey.

I heard today that Joe Arpaio has just changed his meal quota but only for prisoners who have to go to court. Instead of splitting the breakfast meal into 2 so they have something to eat at lunch, they will now get a “hogie roll and some peanut butter”.

    • Lisa M
      03/29/2013 at 6:50 pm

A hoagie role and peanut butter sounds so horrible! I mean, I like the peanut butter part, but on a hoagie role? Even Wonder bread would be better than that. And do they provide milk with that? I would not last one minute in jail, I really wouldn’t. Having to eat that disgusting food day after day. Not that I would do anything to be in a situation like that, but I have to say, the lack of nutritional, good-tasting food seems like extreme deprivation to me.

HOT DAMN!! On the Huffington Post website, you can watch the interrogation tapes in their entirety, uninterrupted by the HLN talking heads.

    • Tracey A
      03/29/2013 at 6:57 pm

No way! Really?? I’m headed over there. Thanks for the info Schaeffer. I’m sick of HLN! Thank you!

Watching HLN…just saw the Juror question “Were you shaking when Mr. Martinez was questioning you??? JA: Yes.

Then she TRIES to conceal a smirk and not break out laughing.

She’s disgusting! I just wanna slap that nasty smirk off her face!!

I agree Tracey. She put the “N” in narcissism. Total disrespect. Momma in the gallery doesn’t care if she lives or dies she’s thinking after all these years this thing I spawned is going to make me some money with a book deal. Cash cow!

Just said that TA had bought an engagement ring for a previous girlfriend. It didn’t work but he kept the ring in his house. Unsurprisingly, it disappeared during JA was sneaking into his house. Of course can’t be introduced into evidence because there isn’t any evidence.

Truly a piece of work! Poor TA.

      03/29/2013 at 7:31 pm

Who said??? If that’s true…I just can’t process that right now. Why am I surprised??? That’s just so very sad…VILE BITCH!! I didn’t think I was capable of this kind of hate! 😦

      • Lisa M
        03/29/2013 at 8:14 pm

Vickee I believe the boyfriend she was with before Travis paid for her boob job. He testified for her, I forget his name. They were together for four years.

      • 03/29/2013 at 9:12 pm

Lisa M~~. Ok, Brewer last name. Thanks

      • Kimmy
        03/29/2013 at 9:31 pm

Vickee I agree. She had it done while with DB so sure he contributed. And while I’m posting about DB, he was 42 while she was 22 so hell yeah! She got lots of lessons in sex by an experienced man so when she got to TA, who was a virgin,,,,,,, all I can think about is the Eagle’s song…..whooo whooo witchy woman….she got that look in her eyyyye high/ Totally seduced him!

You are carrying a very large responsibility here. I do believe you are entitled to have “snarky time” without any guilt. If not for you we would not be here. You are allowed the same emotions the rest of us feel over Travis.
Have a peaceful and relaxing weekend.

      03/29/2013 at 7:59 pm

Ha ha! I read what I can at work and it’s like up to 69 posts when I leave and I get home and it’s like 200+ posts! So I’m scrolling through looking at videos first then go and stumble through the blogs. I feel like a kid again doing the jump rope with two ropes and your watching and watching when to jump in so your skipping both ropes at the same time. I hope I’m burning calories doing this with my eyes and brain while I’m having martinis’! 🙂

      Where is Syn and Chrissie?

      • Tracey A
        03/29/2013 at 8:24 pm

I think Chrissie is working and I have it on good authority that Syn might actually be sleeping. I think they’ll pop up soon!

And I dread it when I wake up on Pacific Time and have to read what went on while I was asleep. When trial starts, I have to give up reading prior posts because it gets to be too fast and furious when the BS starts to spew from AL. Thankfully, we have the holiday weekend to get caught up!

I have so many videos to watch now..

Hehe…burning calories while typing, reading and processing! Good one! I’ll have a few extra now!

We saw #268 above indicating the Huffington Post site, but we can’t find that either. Does anyone have a link? If we don’t have something other than HLN to watch, then we’re going to start drinking!! Lisa M :
Kimmy, that’s one of the symptoms of psychopathy or anti-social disorder, they have much less anxiety than normal people would in the same situation. Remember Casey Anthony? She was the same way. Jose Baez said whenever he visited her in jail she acted all happy-go-lucky like she was on a picnic.

I just know if she ever got out she would kill again and again and again. She thought she would get away with this and I bet she has been thinking all these years how she really could get away with again and again if she gets out. She was talking to herself about gosh Jodi you could have worn makeup now saying gosh Jodi next time don’t do this but do that after you kill someone. Just really scary about this disorder or whatever it is called.

    • Lisa M
      03/29/2013 at 8:16 pm

I’m sure if we got a real peak inside JAs mind, it’d be a very, very scary place!

      • Lisa M
        03/29/2013 at 8:21 pm

I’m not saying I know for sure she’s a psychopath, I’m not a psychiatrist, but the flat affect, the lack of emotion, lack of empathy, focus on herself, superficiality, lying with ease, all suggest it. Someone else said borderline personality disorder and perhaps narcissistic personality disorder. Who knows? She obviously doesn’t behave like a normal human being.

Doesn’t it seem straight up WEIRD that not only does defense counsel dress alike, but now their “star witness” is dressing like them too???

So beyond bizarre…..it’s like a high school drama class acting like lawyers in a play. I’ve almost (but not quite!!!) given up on watching live stream, because its just so TEDIOUS listening to the defense. But when Juan Martinez gets up…..my ears are ablaze! I hope JM gets to her on Tuesday.

Tracey A and Anna, I don’t know how I missed #364 and #368 yesterday but was scrolling through late night blogs at work this AM an I started LMAO so hard and started crying. I had to shut my office door and sit at my desk chair doubled over laughing so hard and tears rolling down my face. My boss tapped on the door and peeked in and I just held my hand up and she shut the door. This lasted for about 15 minutes until I could catch my breath. The last post that cracked me up that hard, and I believe it was Janeto but not sure was when Dr. Dick was under direct and she posted I hope he (JM) crawls up his ass, grabs his tail and turns him inside out! LMAO again. Ahhhhh you guys are great

And I missed the post you refer at the end. I think I miss a lot cuz there’s just so much to read and view. That had me rofl again. Wish I’d seen it! So glad you’re here! 🙂

MMD :OT – do you remember that Greta Van Susteren from CNN, now FOX News, went to OJ’s celebration party he threw when he was released? Disliked her ever since but then again, she was a defense attorney, so that kind of explains some of it and she didn’t interview him.

GRETA VAN SUSTEEN is a high-ranking (in celebrity terms) member of a very insidious and dangerous CULT.
Look up the “church” of Scientology and Greta Van Susteren.

I usually don’t comment on a person’s beliefes/faith, but this is a dangerous CULT that abuses its members, and particularly the CHILDREN. Only in the last few months have news agencies and government officials in America begun to stand up to this insidious group’s threats of never-ending litigation and other blackmail. (America is far behind other countries in coming to realize the danger and destruction associated with this cult, btw.)

Totally OT, I know. And apologies to all. But I also first started to question her ethics around the time of the O.J. trial (I believe she was on CNN at the time), and have since learned more than enough to disregard her entirely.

OMG!! I just have been watching the unedited interrogation tapes on YouTube–the David lohr channel. He has hours of them. Many are with a female investigator from Siskiyou county. It is before she changes her story to Det. Flores. She says she knows his tires had been slashed!! She says someone must have taken the shower pics without Travis knowing! I have only gone thru part 11, they are each about 30 minutes. Just wanted to let all you great peeps know. It can keep us sustained until Tuesday!

I have yet to see any interrogation with a female investigator except when she comes in a tells JA to put her shoes and then you hear, rather then see, her being placed in handcuffs. I wish they caught that on tape. I could put that on an endless loop and watch it over and over again!!!

When I went tu Huffpost the link said it was busy? So I searched unedited interrogation of you know who and up popped David Lohrs videos. I had to click on his name to find all of them. She asked to see the photos again with the female interrogator and the again with Det. Flores. When he said no, she wanted to just see photos of the room! Are you serious?
In some of the early ones she wants to know if $240 cash she had in her purse can be put in the jail account so she can buy SHAMPOO!
Really!! I do not remember if any of the interrogation by the Siskiyou detective was played in court? I think not as the interrogation was brought in as evidence with Det. Flores while he was on the stand.

Wonderful News!!! Juan Martinez has all of Alice LaVoilette’s notes!!!! Check out this link… http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1rjf5h9 It describes the legalize for why Juan has all of her notes, and in particular the notes regarding Jodi telling Alice she saw Travis with porn on his computer! Which contradicts Jodi’s testimony about the porn being magazines.

Although, I think that Juan has pretty much shown the jury that Jodi was lying about the kiddie porn.

    • 03/29/2013 at 11:37 pm

she’s gonna be crumbly burnt toast I reckon when Juan baby gets through Juan knows more about Jodi’s psychology than Alice in wonderland does

Ditto what Syn said. I can’t wait for cross! I’m gonna have to stock up on everything cuz I’m not leaving!! Put on some popcorn and get ready to watch the show. Go Juan GO!

    • 03/29/2013 at 11:48 pm

Actually this is probably why she said she might not have a practice after the trial she knows he’s got the notes and will rip her to shreds with all the lies she has believed. Good she nearly bored me to death ffs!

      03/30/2013 at 12:18 am

Kristy so what does that mean for JM

      • Kristy
        03/30/2013 at 10:49 am

I am assuming that means that JM has a strategy for his cross that includes bringing for the lies that Jodi has told to the jury that don’t match the lies she told to AL.

For example, AL made the Baptism seem like Travis was the original person that Jodi asked, and he wasn’t or he turned her down until after Elder Jenson turned Jodi down and “conveniently” told her to pick someone closer to her, which of course was Travis. Jodi’s testimony was very spotty during her testimony with Nurmi regarding the Baptism in general. Jodi didn’t know when when she asked Travis to stand by her, but it wasn’t until sometime in November. Jodi had been meeting with the missionaries prior to November. That means that this wasn’t completely a Jodi/Travis thing if Travis wasn’t her first choice. Additionally, based on ALs testimony, the baptism would have been very important to Jodi, yet, Jodi’s memory is spotty on when she asked Travis as well as who invited the other people that came. It seems that Jodi’s memory is spotty for her baptism, but not for sex.

      03/30/2013 at 3:54 am

This helps explain why Juan is not objecting so strenuously. He wants her to get it all out there and then he can crush her. If the defense opens the door, it is all fair game for the prosecution on cross.

  109. 03/29/2013 at 11:33 pm

sheesh does she ever go on and on and on….. talk about denial and compartmentalizing and avoiding reality Sooo close to delusion! Freaky!!! She seriously needs off my planet!!!

He is with a friend of his since this occurred but was gated off either before or after the crime. If you go back through the blogs in Feb you will find both questions and replies but who knows.

      • 03/30/2013 at 12:33 am

It was also discussed just recently cos I asked what that black grid on the floor was because Juan had referenced it in evidence.

    • Tracey A
      03/30/2013 at 12:29 am

The dog is OK. His roommates fed Napoleon thinking Travis was in Cancun. Travis actually had the presence of mind to will the dog to his best friend Deanna (gotta ask, who has a will as his young age?? Maybe cuz he knew JA??). The dog is doing fine, although he is deaf and almost blind now. But what did that dog go thru while his beloved master was being brutally murdered. He is in very good hands! That I know from JC on HLN news who spoke to TA’s family because so many people wanted to know about him.

Im pretty sure she cut it on the knife it’s a common injury when a hand slips on a knife during a stabbing.

    • Tracey A
      03/30/2013 at 1:09 am

Yup! Ditto what Syn said. Knife is covered in blood and the stabber’s (JA) hand slips down to the blade. That’s how she got cut.

    • SCK
      03/30/2013 at 11:34 am

That doesn’t explain why it isn’t bent in the interrogation video. She lays it flat on the table — and I mean flat! 🙂

I noticed after watching LaViolettes testimony on NG that when she mentions some behavior of Travis’ that could be construed as abusive– I don’t remember the details but some bs– Jodi is watching her intently and then suddenly she gets this sad look on her face but the transition wax so interesting. It’s like you could see Jodis wheels turning, like all of a sudden she realized that this would be a good place for her to look sad so she consciously mimics that emotion. It was really obvious to me.

Isn’t it stunning when you actually see this stuff with your own eyes? It’s so hard to believe. But as I’ve said before, she will be a case study. Travis has left researches into psychopathy a gift. Never has there been so much material available. The hours of interviews alone are a priceless resource.

Thank You Travis, we understand what you went through and you will never be forgotten. The last 62 seconds of your life, your personal hell was not in vain. all the pain she caused over the time you knew her. You gave to the greater good. Even though you left us that day, you won!

I love London!! Granted I was only there for a day on a layover…but I still enjoyed the brief time I had there while I was there. I loved it too! Got an opportunity, as a teenager, to go with my grandmother for 2 weeks. We started in London and ended up in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was incredible!! Got to see so much. Bath, Stonehenge, Westminster Abbey, Windsor Castle and on and on it goes. Just an incredible trip. I’d love to go back anytime. And, we got to fly on the Concorde from Edinburgh to Heathrow when it was still in service. Trip of a lifetime!!

    Lisa :
    Hey Tracy,
Not sure if Lisa M.

I’m not sure, but I could be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that it is nearly impossible for any of the Manson followers to ever be released from prison. I read somewhere, where one of the women was requesting to be released when she found out she had terminal cancer and wanted to be with her family, but was still denied. I’ll have to look into it. Like I said, I’m not sure its been a while since I read about that.

    • Tracey A
      03/30/2013 at 3:12 am

I forget who that was…but I remember that. I remember that Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, might’ve have been granted parole but due to an attempted jail break, that added more time to her sentence. My details may be a bit “foggy” here. She also, attempted to assassinate former President Ford back in the 70s as I recall. I think, there is no way that any of the family members remaining will ever get out. If they did, many Californians would go Arias on the parole board that let them out. That sounds funny, but I don’t mean it to be. That was very serious here in CA and I remember, at a young age, just how scared my grandparents were when the Tate-LaBianca’s murder occurred.

And, I just looked it up, it was Susan Atkins who sought release for terminal cancer on a “compassionate plea”. WTF??? How much sympathy did she give Sharon Tate, who was pregnant at the time of her BRUTAL murder??? I think they will all die in prison. I’m disappointed that they will not have a date with the Executioner!

On a side note, I was selected to be on a jury in downtown L.A., if you can get this, for a taxi driver who was operating without a permit (you have to empanel a jury for that???). At the time, I was reading “Helter Skelter” while in the Jury waiting room and this is many years after the Manson murders.

I remember the Judge instructing us not to read anything into us being dismissed, and I quote, “You could remind the attorneys of a teacher they didn’t like” huh??? what??? I was Juror #9 and dismissed after the first round of voir dire. A few of us were. And when we turned in our Juror badges at the same time we wondered how we were so quickly stricken. I still don’t know. Here’s another kicker…the Judge, the Honorable Hank Goldberg, who was an attorney for the Prosecution in the OJ Simpson trial, was presiding. These are the cases he hears???? Taxi driver without a permit??? I have to serve Jury duty for this??? WTH?? What a waste of tax payer dollars. Unbelievable!!!! Wish is was making this up or exaggerating, sadly not!

      • Schaeffer
        03/30/2013 at 4:19 am

Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme was a Manson follower, but she did not participate in any of the murders. She was one of those nut job women that shaved their heads and walked on their knees to the court house during the trial to show their continued support of Manson. She was eventually imprisoned for trying to assassinate President Ford; she received a life sentence, but was eligible for parole. She escaped briefly in an attempt to get to Manson, whom she had heard was terminally ill with cancer. For years, she continued to profess allegiance to Manson. She was finally paroled in 2009. Recently, another Manson follower, Bruce Davis was granted parole by the parole board, but the Governor overturned it. I don’t think any of them should ever get out.

      • Bethany
        03/30/2013 at 4:19 am

That actually doesn’t surprise me. We have jury panels for DUIs where I live which sounds weird to me. Most of the time the perpetrator pleas out though and trial gets canceled. I was called to jury duty for one but they canceled trial so I never had to sit on the case.

    • 03/30/2013 at 7:09 am

      Hey Bethany,
They can be released if the parole board deems it si. They come up for parole , each of them, and there is a hearing to determine whether they will be paroled. If the parole board decides to release them, they would be released.

    truejustice :

Actually an insanity plea is one of the hardest to prove. There has to be a long history of a person being in and out of mental institutions or in and out of treatment. Also, mental illness has to be previously diagnosed. That probably why her defense team steered away from that defense. Also incompetency pleas are different from insanity pleas. If a person is deemed incompetent they usually will put them in a treatment facility until they are deemed competent, then they will go to trial. If a person is deemed insane they will most likely be put in a state run mental institution. Which you are correct, they will most likely remain there for years until they are deemed competent enough to be released which happens very rarely.

Plus she is too deliberate in her behaviour patterns to be deemed insane. Hard to get your head around, yes that she is but insane no. It is easy to follow a distinct thought pattern to identify her motives. This thought process alone quite clearly shows she is not insane she knows exactly what she is doing.

Can’t see anyone proving she’s insane she is way too manipulative.

WOW!! I just watched all of JA’s interrogation tapes. No wonder she’s on trial 4-5 years later.
What a tough NUT to crack! Never once does she admit to what she did! She beats around that constantly. The woman police officer didn’t get anywhere with Jodi that was total waste of time! She didn’t give JA a chance to speak!! JM knew what he was in for after he saw these! Not once did Jodi answer a question properly and never truthfully!!!

    • 03/30/2013 at 7:39 am

yes and this is why Juan baby is my hero, he knows how to handle her. She cannot be treated as normal not on the stand, not in interrogation room. She is a different creature.

      • 03/30/2013 at 10:04 am

I re-watched Juan questioning JA last nite and it was scary the looks she would give him and her under breath comments with her answers. I get more from it the second time around. Her token looks to the jury are an insult when answers. I wonder if they realize how much she is trying to manipulate them. When this is all said and done I hope they go back and look at all the info that is available to see just who/what she really is!!! OMG she makes me madder than I was before.

  134. 03/30/2013 at 7:31 am

    Lisa M :
I’m not saying I know for sure she’s a psychopath, I’m not a psychiatrist, but the flat affect, the lack of emotion, lack of empathy, focus on herself, superficiality, lying with ease, all suggest it. Someone else said borderline personality disorder and perhaps narcissistic personality disorder. Who knows? She obviously doesn’t behave like a normal human being.

She is NPD But all psychopaths are… It is for want of a better description, a symptom.

You can be just NPD but you cannot be a psychopath without exhibiting as NPD. Pretty much same with BPD, all symptoms will be there. BUT neither NPD nor BPD has flat affect, lack of remorse or lack of conscience.

Think of it this way. A person can’t have a migraine and not have a headache but you can have a headache but not have a migraine. See what I’m saying?

Psychopathy is the only one where the brain actually has been proven to function so radically differently the results literally do not look human simply because their brains literally cut off from emotion. Could be choice, environment or genes or combo of all as yet nobody knows the cause but Dr Hare has proven it.

So let’s get her MRI scanned while she says ” and I don’t know that his throat was slit then either” and we will have a definitive answer and I know what I saw – no emotional response bar a challenge.

That is not only NPD, not only BPD – that is lack of guilt, lack of remorse and lack of emotion of any kind when stating something extremely emotive. The rest of us would be sobbing because the emotions of thinking about that day and all that’s happened since would be running through our minds, it would be overwhelming.

Even if this fog exists, (yeah right) the photos alone would elicit emotion for the rest of us, remember she admits doing this. The horror of it should spark sadness, remorse and guilt. She exhibits zero under extremely emotive cross examination. Once and once only did she appear to break down . Juan was able to get through to her asking her if she was crying when she inflicted the wounds on Travis. Once and on the stand for how long? Not normal emotional range. Not hyper sensitive which BPD’s tent to be, not scared of abandonment. Just raging because someone dared to refject her (NPD(

But…. in addition lies the glaring real diagnosis as psychopathy because nothing else explains her lack of conscience. (some would likely argue ASPD but new research into psychopathy is scientifically proving they are distinctly different.)

Psychopaths are basically mutants. They function on a very fundamentally different way to the rest of us. They think totally differently, their psychological and emotional needs are totally different and their sense of right and wrong are totally different. Without a conscience, they are governed purely by their narcissistic need for self entitlement. They will lie, connive and manipulate because they believe they are entitled to.

Dr Robert Hare needs to test her. Anything above 12 – 16 is considered potentially dangerous, normal peeps score 5 or less. Maximum is 40, I’d love to see her score I believe mid to high 30s but it needs to be scored by someone as preeminent Dr Hare or the score will always be suspect. He will consider everything, like the dog incident and there will be many other examples like that throughout her life.

Is she NPD yes, is she BPD yes… but that’s because she is psychopathic. Psychopathy precludes and assumes both are present. Additional but similar symptomatology will be exhibited

    Again, think of the example:

It’s not possible to have a migraine without it being naturally understood that the person has a headache… it’s just a really really really bad headache with a stronger set of symptoms.

Psychopathy is still widely misunderstood even in psychiatric and psychology circles. It’s breaking edge. The research is there for those who wish to find it, many don’t. Like Dr Dodgy and Violette. It’s not widely accepted yet. But the Jodi’s of the world will eventually make the professionals wake up to it because it explains her actions and behaviour perfectly, nothing else does. Nothing else encompasses all of it, just bits of it.

“So let’s get her MRI scanned while she says ” and I don’t know that his throat was slit then either” and we will have a definitive answer and I know what I saw – no emotional response bar a challenge.”

wow that’s really interesting. I also remember when she said that and I just got this huge feeling of “whoa that was cold!” That reaction just immediately put the lie on any of her testimony in which she cried (while peeking through her fingers at the photos she supposedly can’t bear to see). One of the other exchanges that really gave me the creeps was when she told Detective Flores she had a morbid curiosity in seeing the photos. How sick is that!

  135. 03/30/2013 at 8:25 am

Just finished watching first interview in full with Det Flores. First have to say he is a saint what patience. Now as to how bizarre that girl was OMG after 2+ hours of denial she is told she will be charged and extradited etc. Bit of sobbing face covered of course then asks about being able to fix herself up then after Flores leaves does the handstand bit and some singing. A normal person would be mortified about what their future holds and would show signs of something. Not this little black duck. Finally just before the policewoman comes back to get her she is sitting hugging rocking on her knees face in her knees and there is a faint giggle followed by “I still beat you”. Denial or NFI but one crazy high scorer in that test Syn.

  136. 03/30/2013 at 8:32 am

ROFL – watching the interviews! Don’t you just have to marvel at her ability to compartmentalise?

“I’ve just finished the book ‘The Road Less Travelled’, and he said the true definition of sanity is dedication to reality at all costs”….. hahaha yeah well by that definition she could try the insanity defense.

    * down the rabbit hole*

The more I watch this the more I think she has been fighting her inner nature all her life. Like the psychopath I knew, he didn’t want to be like he was but he couldn’t overcome it. He used it to his advantage and prided himself on his ability to manipulate and lie yet at the same time wished he was more like everyone else.

Must be a terrible way to have to live. Part cold calculated ruthless, part wishing you could feel empathy and be like everyone else.

I once said to him “If we could swap brains both of us would be driven crazy. I couldn’t cope suddenly thinking as you do, and you couldn’t cope suddenly thinking like me.”

I can’t imagine not having a conscience, he wouldn’t know how to function suddenly having one.

    • Lisa M
      03/30/2013 at 9:52 am

Wow that’s pretty amazing that you know a psychopath! Aren’t you a little frightened? 🙂 It sounds like “your” psychopath has some insight into himself. I just don’t think Jodi has that although I guess you never know. It does seem that she probably did feel left out or alienated from other people like Travis’ friends. But maybe not, maybe she just didn’t care. But I do think she was probably aware that she was different from other people and was probably resentful of that. I believe that her attraction to Mormonism was a symptom of her psychopathy because she needed to latch onto some belief system because she doesn’t have an inner moral compass and thinks of morality as a list of rules like the Ten Commandments, which she mentions in her interview with Detective Flores.

      • 03/30/2013 at 10:13 am

        Linda,

No he has no insight into himself at all actually. I had to understand him then try to get him to understand himself. It’s an impossible and fruitless task that only results in head banging and extreme frustration.

You have to explain things to them about human nature as if they are children because they can’t understand it. All he knew was that he was/is different and that if others knew what he really thought and felt he would be ostracized. So his projected personas were all about covering his real nature.

The one thing they fear most of all is being ‘outed’ and they can’t cope with rejection they have to be liked by everyone.

        Jodi is the same.

Her mormon interest was purely to manipulate Travis. It’s what they do. They will change any belief system in the blink of an eye if it suits their need to entwine themselves with someone.

The one I knew immediately took all my interests and espoused them as his own sincere beliefs too. If he talked to someone else with differing viewpoints, he’d sincerely agree with them too. They are morally corrupt.

If she met an atheist she’d immediately be an atheist. They know no loyalty or allegiance to anyone but themselves.

  138. 03/30/2013 at 9:07 am

OK what the heck ism she doing to her eyes? or ?eyebrows? eye lashes??

When Det Flores tells her she is going to be booked and leaves the room… she ‘plays’ with one eye for ages, then the other. Seems like she is primping her eyes in some way, anyone know what she is doing? Obviously she does but I’m not familiar with this – cosmetic relevance? Making her eyelashes seem longer??

any ideas what she is doing?

Oh she’s so revolting in every way! About the only satisfaction I got from watching her in court is when she had to sit there and watch her old interviews, police and TV, and listen to all of her lies. You could see the embarrassment and the “oh shit!” Look on her face.

  140. 03/30/2013 at 9:50 am

The female detective tries appealing to her ego which is a good ploy but Jodi ain’t budging. The det even gives her the cue for abuse but for some reason at that time Jodi is still enough in reality to not jump on that.

Interesting still realises, at the time of the interview, it wouldn’t wash cos he was a genuinely nice guy to her and nobody would believe it. Obviously as time went by that reality left her completely – the paedophilia illustrates how far down that track she has gone now.

  142. 03/30/2013 at 10:32 am

Good Morning Everyone… I’m sure the question I have has probably been discussed but the posts are to great for me to find it. My question is… I remember JA testified that when she reached Travis’ in the early morning hours of June 4th that he was in his office on the computer. What I don’t remember is how she said she gained entry to his house. Does anyone know?

  143. 03/30/2013 at 10:52 am

She said something about having his security code but then later said she didn’t have it at that time.

I’m guessing it was doggy door or maybe she realised her error and said the door was open. So many stories I just go for the logic behind them to try to make sense of it. Either way if she came in and he’s on the computer she came in uninvited so once again she incriminates herself.

I am amazed at the extent of both detectives patience shown! I loved that the lady confronted her with her totally superficial and self centered concerns – not that it affected her! I’ve just finished 2nd video and the closest she’s gotten is when she says that she “doesn’t have all the answers.” Where is MMD?

    • 03/30/2013 at 11:01 am

I’m on 7 Nancy… maybe she’s catching up on some much needed sleep. Hope so anyhow.

  145. 03/30/2013 at 10:59 am

I feel our system of justice is flawed in the respect that the Defense is allowed to throw out inflammatory statements without having to offer up any proof. Anything to cast doubt. If they are going to make statements like Travis was an abuser & liked little boys they should have to prove it otherwise stick to the facts. Same in Casey Anthony trial they shouldn’t have been allowed to make those claims about George without some sort of proof. Just like someone else posted, the statements from friends etc. can’t be used but someone with a diploma can speculate all they want. It’s BS.

I hope that at the end of JM’s closing arguments he will play that snippet of JA’s interrogation when she tells Det. Flores ” If I killed Travis I would beg for the death penalty”. Judge I have nothing further. (No need to beg missy, your wish is our command!)

I can’t believe how many times she has asked to see the pictures claiming “a morbid curiosity”. She’s no longer avidly claiming she wasn’t there.

    • 03/30/2013 at 11:46 am

The reason she wants to see the pics is because she want to see what they have so she can construct her new story. In these vids she hasn’t got a second version yet because until her arrest she had thought she’d gotten away with it.

That’s why she avoids coming up with an alternative even though the female detective and Det Flores so far have given her ample opportunities to do so.

      • 03/30/2013 at 12:22 pm

  162. 03/30/2013 at 12:52 pm

    My last comment here.

The discussion of psychopathy and personality disorders in general is starting to frustrate me. I was looking for more of a scientific, academic approach to the discussion. When one starts with a conclusion and works backwards it is difficult to have a rational discussion. I understand the belief that if one has dealt with a person considered “psychopathic” (there is no such diagnosis so I’m puzzled at this) they might be able to spot the characteristics. It takes 10 years of academic study (at least) to obtain the qualifications to consider the nuance of such a case-study and I believe conclusions shouldn’t be jumped to so hastily.

The term psychopath is not medically defined. It is a term used in criminology. In the future psychopathy may become a category of anti-social personality disorder but there is continuing debate over the usefulness of such a change. Jodi Arias does not appear to have borderline PD which can be defined (loosely) as extremely intense emotional lability. She doesn’t show proper emotional response at all much less extreme emotion. Keep in mind that most people with one personality disorder will meet the criteria for others. Personality disorders are not mutually exclusive.

I can’t speak to the validity of functional MRI scans as I have not studied the subject but I can say fMRI research is in it’s infancy and one cannot make hard-and-fast conclusions based on fMRI results. fMRI is not, at this time, clinically useful for diagnosing personality disorders.

I urge anyone who thinks Jodi Arias is the definition of evil to research Ted Bundy, Albert Fish, Dennis Rader or Andrei Chikatilo (among others) to get a full understanding of the subject. She is absolutely repulsive and I truly hope she never leaves prison. I think she is capable of killing again, but she doesn’t epitomize evil as thoroughly as some have in the past.

Travis Alexander had a promising future and sounds like he was a really neat person. I feel for his family and hope the trial ends soon in a way that can give them some peace. Unfortunately the American legal system almost never provides closure for a victim’s family; regardless of the outcome they have a hard road ahead.

I truly enjoy Donchais’ summaries of court. I think this blog is great and the discussions are insightful. There is a great community building here but I am starting to get a serious case of SIWOTI.

Hi all:). I’m worried about “Rache”- has there been a post from her in the past few days that I missed? The last I saw, she was very sad and felt that she had been made to feel unwelcomed. So many here tried to assure her that ALL are welcome, and that we are all here to support…. I really hope she is ok?

FOL – Nope, no comments from Rache. I’m sending her good wishes & have wondered about her too.

Does anyone know what would happen if Jodi got life in prison, how it would affect her ability to appeal? Is there a lesser ability to appeal if it’s a life sentence vs. death penalty?

    • NancyB
      03/30/2013 at 1:46 pm

That’s a good question. The very little that I know: In death penalty cases the series of appeals are automatic and mandatory. With life without parole, I’m assuming she can still appeal, tho most appeals don’t result in reversal of sentences or new trials, even when sometimes there are valid legal arguments to support them and not just the run of the mill shallow and perfunctory arguments that don’t hold much weight.

  165. 03/30/2013 at 1:34 pm

True it is, as yet, just meeting a criteria not a diagnosis per se. It is a measure of psychologogical nature.

“The Hare Psychopathy Check List (Revised) (PCL-R) is a twenty question test to determine whether or not an individual is a ‘psychopath’. Each item scores up to 2 points, giving a maximum score of 40. It is perhaps the most widespread of such tests, and is used throughout the world. It is frequently used in the UK often just before a prisoner or long term mental patient is about to be released. Any score above 28 in Texas reputedly incurs the death penalty.”

So while not a sanctioned diagnosis in the DSM (or equivalent) it is pertinent to this trial.

This is the frustration associated with getting any new research ratified. There is always a time of raising a level of consciousness towards that end. It will happen though.

The anecdotal and scientific research is valid and quantifiable and backed up by years of research. Cleckley first tried to explain it, Robert Hare has tried to set up the procedure to quantify it.

Next step will be acceptance, but as with all new research. It takes time.

If no new research is ever discussed how would there be any updates in any area either scientific or otherwise?

Surely the definition of evil itself is merely perspective? Evil is hardly quantifiable. The field of psychology is primarily based on observing human behaviour, then qualifying through various tests based on measures to gain insight to the psyche.

If one does not observe human behaviour first, how does one establish any kind of basis for psychological study? If there is definitive scientific evidence in MRI scan results are you suggesting it should not be utilised? I’m confused.

As Carl Jung (the father of psychology) pointed out to eloquently

” Anyone who wants to know the human psyche will learn next to nothing from experimental psychology. He would be better advised to abandon exact science, put away his scholar’s gown, bid farewell to his study, and wander with human heart throughout the world. There in the horrors of prisons, lunatic asylums and hospitals, in drab suburban pubs, in brothels and gambling-hells, in the salons of the elegant, the Stock Exchanges, socialist meetings, churches, revivalist gatherings and ecstatic sects, through love and hate, through the experience of passion in every form in his own body, he would reap richer stores of knowledge than text-books a foot thick could give him, and he will know how to doctor the sick with a real knowledge of the human soul.” — Carl Jung

This is not an academic arena it is a discussion. Nobody is offering up a dissertation.

Excellent explanation!!! Syntara, are you aware of Michael Welner’s Depravity Scale? If so, I’m real interested to know your thoughts on it. JA scores very high on it. In the survey there are multiple questions that fit her to a tee.

      • 03/30/2013 at 2:18 pm

I have heard of it but I am by no means familiar with it. I saw you linked to a test for it the other day but I got side tracked and didnt link back to it. If you have it handy can you re-post?

The only thing I know about it is that its trying to develop some kind of test to (coincidental to above), qualify emotional words such as evil.

I’ll take a look into it. It’s certainly an intriguing subject matter.

      • 03/30/2013 at 2:28 pm

Hi again.. weekends are hard. no work or trial, gives the mind a chance to speculate. LOL Since there has been so much importance put on the fact (& I use that word loosely) that Travis defined the law of chasity to her because everything she had read had been vague or hard to understand. Maybe JM should call a missionary on his rebuttal as to protocol for when trying to convert. I read some where that on their 2nd visit some phamplets handed out that define some of the principles such as word of wisdom & law of chasity. I simply typed in… law of chasity… nothing about Mormon & this is what I found.

The law of chastity is a moral code defined by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). According to the church, chastity means abstinence from sexual relations before marriage, and complete fidelity to one’s spouse during marriage. As part of the law of chastity, the church teaches its members not only to abstain from adultery and fornication, but also to refrain from masturbation and to avoid sexually inappropriate thoughts. The law of chastity is taught to church members of all ages, being introduced simply to young children, and especially emphasized to adolescents.
    General standards
Within the LDS Church, chastity means more than abstinence from sex. It means to be morally clean in “thoughts, words, and actions.” It also means sexual relations are only permitted between a husband and wife. The church teaches its members that “no one, male or female, is to have sexual relations before marriage. After marriage, sexual relations are permitted only with our spouse.

I dunno but I feel that’s pretty clear. This was just the FIRST thing that popped up.. there are other easy areas to get even more information. I don’t believe that JA is stupid, but she wants us to believe she is.

    • 03/30/2013 at 2:11 pm

      Yes2Wine:

I dunno but I feel that’s pretty clear.”

Yes you would think so. Perhaps she had a foggy moment while reading it. You know one of the selective comprehension type moments.

  167. 03/30/2013 at 1:53 pm

    Kristen,

    As for

Jodi Arias does not appear to have borderline PD which can be defined (loosely) as extremely intense emotional lability. She doesn’t show proper emotional response at all much less extreme emotion.

As pointed out in this forum already and I have not seen any suggestion otherwise:

……. ” BUT neither NPD nor BPD has flat affect, lack of remorse or lack of conscience”

So I don’t think anyone here has suggested she has Borderline Personality disorder, accept to maybe offer it up as a suggestion offered by someone else and seeking clarification.

It is true however that a number of other symptomatology overlaps all these disgnoses. That too has been clearly pointed out.

  168. 03/30/2013 at 2:20 pm

For me, the expert part of trials, really doesn’t hold much bearing. These are people that are making a wage, of course what they say is going to bolster your case. Their words are purchased. Meaningless. At this point I am so anxious for rebuttal. When we start talking about reality.

Krisy that was a great question about the appeal process. I don’t know the answer but I so hope at the very least she receives LIFE w/o Parole. She is so convinced that she has out foxed us & will receive 2nd degree. I can’t imagine her getting the last laugh. I pray these jurors have a high level of common sense & don’t confuse that with reasonable doubt.

I spent some time googling and asking on another site and found out the LWOP is far harsher than DP. DP costs more and allows her at least a private cell. LWOP is much less costly and would ensure that jodi’s time in the spot light is gone baby gone!

From The State vs Arias – which I’m sure applies to us too:

A message for you all – from Travis’s sister, Tanisha:

I just want to come on here again and tell you all how much gratitude and love I have for all of you. The thoughtfulness of all of you is so amazing to me.

I look at all the pictures with the blue ribbons all over the world, all the blue spread around the world, all the love spread around the world and it humbles my heart. It brings tears of joy to my eyes.

Our family have gotten many cards, gifts, donations, drawings, pictures, poems, jewelry, letters, pins, frames and lots of love, and it makes me know that goodness out weighs the evilness.

I just want you to know that if these things come to me in My PO box then you will be getting a thank you card from me, even if it takes a while, I have been personally writing each one out and sending them because I am really truly grateful to you.

I Know Travis is so happy right now and watching over us and he sees and feels the support you have for him and our family.

So to all of you all over the world, I Love you. God bless you and your families!! Justice For Travis!!! Happy Easter!!

    • 03/30/2013 at 2:40 pm

Thanks Chrissie for sharing that. They are a strong family you can tell and stick together. My belief has always been that something good will always come out of something bad. I’ve seen it happen many times even in the loss of my Mom. Suppose one of the sister’s has a baby boy that has Travis’s spirit in him and he does something monumental in this crazy world that will make a HUGE difference. It could happen you know? That’s how I get through life trying to think something good has to come out of something bad. It just has too! Just IMO. 🙂
