Jodi Arias Murder Trial – Day Forty-Seven

04/12/2013

Wonder how Ms. LaViolette is feeling today.  The jurors sure made it clear they haven’t bought into Arias as a victim of domestic violence and abuse!  Though I doubt she would ever admit it, I wonder if she now sees what a liar and manipulator Arias is.

Court starts at 9:23 with everybody at the bench.

Screen shot 2013-04-12 at 12.35.31 PMLaViolette on the stand and jury is called at 9:33.

Explain why you don’t think Jodi isn’t manipulative?  Based on the information I have, I haven’t seen that pattern.

Is not the perpetrator of the most domestic violence, Jodi?  No.

When Jodi went to see Bianca, isn’t that jealousy?  It could be, but I didn’t see that from interviews with Mr. McCartney.

How do you know Jodi received Spiderman underwear?  From the text message I saw.

If you had been given access to everything except interviews with Jodi, how would that affect you assessment.  I read about interactions between Jodi and Travis, I read Mr. Alexander’s journals…It wouldn’t have changed my assessment.

She saw no evidence of physical abuse by Travis, other than what Jodi told her.

Do you think a person who says, No jury will ever convict me, is a person with low self-esteem?  I think it was a foolish statement to make.

What is the manifesto you referred to?  I don’t know, I’ve never seen it.

Are you aware Jodi threatened to let people know Travis was a pedophile?  I didn’t know that.

Jury is so on top of this game!

Most of what we are hearing from ALV is that she ONLY relied on written materials and Jodi’s BS and she doesn’t know about many things that Jodi did!

Ya gotta wonder if ALV was a victim of domestic abuse.

Is your knowledge of what happened on June 4, light or incomplete?  I think I know what led up to it and know enough about it.

Jodi never told ALV she felt sexually degraded by Travis!!!Screen shot 2013-04-12 at 12.23.45 PM

Oh my!  More questions from the jury!

Is hitting or kicking parents normal at any age?  As a teenager, they some times act that way, but I don’t think it’s acceptable.

Oh kill, me Willmott up!

If Jodi’s mother was hitting her, would that explain Jodi’s behavior as a teenager?  Yes.

If someone made up a story would that be manipulative?  Sure.

Did you find instances where Ms. Arias was sexually degraded? No.

Repeated name calling by a person you love tears you apart, it’s character assassination.

Rehash, rehash, rehash…this is beyond boring!

10-minute break called…

Did Willmott not understand from the juror questions, they ain’t buying this crap?  Going over it for the umpteenth time isn’t going to change that and there is no way she can rehabilitate ALV in their minds!

Being strangled and kicked and slapped, would that be memorable?  Yes.

Even if you didn’t write it down?  Yes.

Were you aware Mr. Alexander told Ms. Arias Deanna was crazy?  Yes.

He did so to keep them separated?

Objection…sidebar…

Real snoozer.

Still babbling how Travis was the bigger perp of domestic violence because it happened prior to June 4 and Jodi’s reaction, while extreme, was due to fear.

Screen shot 2013-04-12 at 2.02.29 PMJodi in actress mode…quick glances at jury, screwing up her face and looking like she’s gonna cry!!!  However, as usual, no tears come!

Willmott, shut up!  This is beyond overkill and she is abusing the jury and all of us!

Is it common to your knowledge that battered women can snap?  Yes, victims get to a point of angry and being afraid.

Juan up!

How many times have you testified on behalf of men?  Two criminal cases.

She doesn’t remember the names; it was a long time ago.

Was it in criminal court?  It was in criminal court and I wrote a report.

Exactly, you didn’t testify in a criminal court?  No, I didn’t.

So you made a misrepresentation to the jury?  I don’t have my CV in front of me so I can’t tell you.

There is no second man that you testified for in court?  I said one or two; we’re spanning 29 years.

Caught in another big lie!

The defendant was manipulative as a teenager, but you told the jury she wasn’t later?  No based on what I read, I didn’t see a pattern.

If it came to your attention, 2-4 years later, the defendant had lied…

Objection…sidebar…

It slices, it dices…it’s the Juan Martinez, by Popeil!

If she lied about something 2-4 years later, would that change your assessment opinion?  Would depend on what Ms. Arias lied about.  I look at patterns; I don’t know what lie you are talking about.

ALV is committing suicide on the stand!

Neither ALV or Jodi looking so confident now!!!

Another 10-minute recess called…

Lol, hate to admit…kinda been sitting back and enjoying Juan doing what he does best and not typing a whole lot!

10-minute break has now reached 23 minutes…ya just know the day will be called and we’ll have to suffer more on Monday!

12:25, Ahhh…counsel was in chambers, pros back, Jodi back, but def still missing!

12:29…sidebar, again!

12:33…still at sidebar…

12:34…jury back and ALV on stand…no idea what’s going on here.

Judge says juror number 11 is ill and excused.

You said Mr. Alexander was a perp?  Of domestic violence, yes.

You indicate Ms. Arias is a survivor?   I don’t know exactly if I said that?

Juan asks to approach…sidebar…

Juror 11 (seems to be short guy “Poquito) is off jury due to illness.  Girls are weeping…crap, crap, crap!

You were paid to do this process?  Yes.

And you are paid $250 an hour?  Yes.

$300 for testimony?  Yes.

You reached the opinion that Mr. Alexander was a liar?  I didn’t call him a liar…he told lies though.

You said he had a pattern?  Correct.

And, anybody with a pattern is a liar?  Yes.

A face-to-face clinical interview versus written information allows you to decide which person is more believable?  I formed my opinion based on what I had.

Juan done and turns away in disgust because she is wasting everybody’s time!!!

Nurmi asks to approach…

Judge to jury…Monday at 1:30 to start, but have your cell phones.  Motions in morning?

OMG, another question in the box!!!!

Was Ms. Arias story consistent?  It was for me.

That includes the shooting occurred in the closet?  I misspoke.

Jury released for the day.

ALV is told she needs to be back on Tuesday there is an urgent issue that needs to be taken care of, but she can choose to come Monday or Tuesday…Alyce say she has stuff to do and Judge basically says tough!

Omg!

Monday, witness Grace Wong ordered to appear at 11 and can bring counsel.  She sits with Beth Karas.  Think this is about mistrial motion.

So what time Monday?  No freakin clue.  Grace Wong at 11 and jury at 1:30, but stuff will be happening in the morning…not sure if in open court…assume we will all be staring at computer screens, live or blank!

Now, we’re done and so am I!

Great weekend, all!

      04/12/2013 at 5:24 pm

Dp, MMD: I’m in Portland Maine, now, but grew up 15 miles from Perth-Andover NB, (potato land, just like PEI) Spent lots of family vacations in NB, NS, Quebec. Fond memories of Shediac, first time seeing a jellyfish. 😄 I also live near Campobello NB in the summer, staring at Grand Manam, the place in Maine is called Lubec, most know as the farthest eastern point in the US. Great seas and 27 foot tides there, first section of the Bay of Fundy, love it in the maritime’s. I can’t wait to visit Newfoundland. Hubby and I are anxious to travel there. I also can’t wait to tour St. Magdalene islands, you know, see the baby seals in March.

        Anniefreeze-
Portland, ME is on my bucket list.
        Sndly-
Porland, OREGON … WAS.. and happily I was able to visit (and fall head over heels for) your fair city last September.
Powell’s Books; Stumptown coffee; vegan options–delicious one at that– everywhere; (killer vegan donuts at Voodoo, even though I am not into sweets at ALL other than fresh, organic fruits); “flintknapping” seminars advertised in local coffee shops!-=-like…. I have to admit that I had never heard of this activity, but was also tickled to see basketweaving workshops advertised right alongside them.

McMenamins!! (Caught a couple Further shows out there; Mt. Hood… GORGEOUS scenery).

Now addicted to “Portlandia”; how did I NOT watch every season from the first on?!

        *****
Sorry to say I told you so to some peeeps her about whether the judge would allow LaVioltte to skip town before her testimony on direct/cross (redirect/recross) was up.

She could have been done DAYS ago, but Oh, No. She had to pick meaningless and ridiculoyus fights with JM all throughout her cross, even when it made NO SENSE AT ALL.

The only way for her to avoid further examination is for the parties to agree to whatever is idispute and move on.

Some math estimations : 44 hrs w./ arias 80 hrs to read thousand of docs and study her details = @ 250 = 31,000
11 days on stand (assuming 8 hrs – sure she gets paid for side bars, travel etc ) @ 300 = 26,400

Fora a whopping grand total = 57,400. Give or take.

And mrs toilet, when Donoman said miss arias was adjusting her glasses instead of giving the finger, and now that you’ve seen the video and you see that isn’t true, would that cause you to readjust your opinion?

      04/12/2013 at 11:21 pm

ALV’s fish-out-of-waterness (glasses, cell phone, tendency to ramble) really is getting hard to watch. I think this exchange with the judge is a symptom of the same over-familiarity/lack of boundaries that allowed her to approach Samantha and to suggest that JM “take a time-out.”And the apparent fact that she wandered into the national, nay global, spotlight with, apparently, very limited information is actually making me feel rather bad for her as time goes on, and despise the defense team more and more. They seem like the mean kids at school who set up a naive kid to take a dive. She makes me think of the old expression about the blind men and the elephant; it’s like she’s got the trunk and is convinced it’s a snake (being unable to see the “big picture,” despite what she may believe). If the defense felt they had to restrict the info they gave their expert witness (in order to get one to agree to work with them), then they should have just skipped it, rather than put someone under-informed and ill-prepared on the stand to take a dive, personally and professionally, for Jodi Akk Arias. I know they are required to make a sincere effort at an actual defense, but I feel they duped ALV into being their DV person. Now she’s going through h*ll (don’t know the rules here…) and Jodi is STILL going to be convicted (surely?).

BTW, do we know exactly what “The Admonition” is, what it covers, who it applies to, and during what period of time?

      • 04/13/2013 at 1:10 am

Hello. Regular lurker here. “The Admonition” is to avoid media, conversation and early deliberations about the trial. It applies to the jury. We’re so lucky we can chat and vent online. 🙂

I sort of feel sorry for Alyce at times. I don’t believe she or Dr. Samuels expected the intense public interest. However, I don’t blame the defense lawyers. I think she chose to see a snake rather than skip testifying. Maybe because, as she mentioned today, she doesn’t have a great retirement. Maybe because she was initially seduced by Jodi. Maybe because she’s so accustomed to being revered, she believed she could convince a jury.

I really feel some of today’s interactions with Wilmott were about the online response: the retirement comment, the testimony about the opinion of people who love you being more important than “the public.” Based on their “nonverbal communication” I felt Wilmott and LaViolette were talking to the public and rehashing personal conversations about moral support for Alyce as much as the jury.

The only way I think Ms. LaViolette was set up to take a dive was in saying she misspoke when her previous testimony contradicted Jodi’s trial testimony. But then I remember donchais’ post from 4/09/13 about the suicidologist that changed his opinion on the stand, and my sympathy fades.

Since she has soooooooooooooooo many rights, since she would be unable to participate in her trial and since it is a DP case, blah, blah, blah, blah they probably wouldn’t be able to continue. WIS would be able to give you the correct answer though.

They would have a monitor set up in the jail or infirmary. It doesn’t happen that often but it does happen so they have it covered. They also can convict people who skip bail and don’t come to court… that’s a little tougher though.

Make that: State (of Arizona) v. Whitley.
Here is what the Arizona Supreme Court said (and all trial judges in AZ are bound by the “holdings”, i.e. –for lay purposes, the RULINGS, of the state supreme court:

A voluntary waiver of the right to be present requires true freedom of choice. A trial court may infer that a defendant’s absence from trial is voluntary and constitutes a waiver if a defendant had personal knowledge of the time of the proceeding, the right to be present, and had received a warning that the proceeding would take place in their absence if they failed to appear. The courts indulge every reasonable presumption against the waiver of fundamental constitutional rights. State v. Whitley, 85 P.3d 116 (2004)

    • WhereIsSHE
      04/12/2013 at 10:13 pm

Her alleged “fog” was a short-lived phenonmenon, remember?
She claims she was “in a fog” ONLY between the gun “going off” and her “waking” from it “somewhere in the desert” before the Hoover Dam.

A migraine can (and did, in this case, as we all witnessed) put a brief PAUSE on a trial, but my understanding is that Jodi is now taking IMITREX for such (alleged) headaches.
Any attempt to perpetuate a delay due to some alleged illness would be met with a fair amount of skepticism AND a likelihood of INDEPENDENT (as in TRULY UNBIASED) medical testing/examinations.

      In other words-
No, Jodi cannot “play sick” to indefinitely delay justice.

The hour of judgment is drawing near; closer and closer by each passing moment.

If she DID attempt to do so, it is –in theory–possible that they case might proceed without her, but that is an EXTREME remedy to such a situation, and one that no trial court would easily impose, because of the overwhelming probability that any verdict reached in absentia in such a factual situation would automatically be reversed to the obvious constitutional violations.

The US Supreme Court has interperted Due Process guarentees as set forth in the 5th, 6th and 14th amendments to pretty much REQUIRE the presence of the accused at trial (if not also at every meaningful stage of the poceedings).

The ARIZONA Supreme Court reiterated the longstanding history of protecting these fundamental rights in the fairly recent case of Sate v. Whitley.

Wow! As usual WIS your posts and insights here are astounding. I look forward to reading them each time.

Just like Juan Martinez, I would NEVER want to go up against you as a prosecutor.

Note to self – If you ever find yourself stupid enough to commit a crime and you find yourself up against WIS or Juan Martinez, just plead guilty. Go directly to jail, do not pass Go!

Ferry is gone now, there is a 10 mile fixed link called the Confederation Bridge to New Brunswick. You can still take the ferry down east ( I know, it’s the way they talk here) across to Nova Scotia but it only runs until the end of November. Yep, red mud, beautiful white sand beaches, lots of potatoes and one the 10 best golf courses in the world.

    truejustice :
Some math estimations : 44 hrs w./ arias 80 hrs to read thousand of docs and study her details = @ 250 = 31,000
11 days on stand (assuming 8 hrs – sure she gets paid for side bars, travel etc ) @ 300 = 26,400
Fora a whopping grand total = 57,400. Give or take.
Would you sell your sou; for that … Not me – my integrity is worth a lot more than that !

You know something.. when I was doing the Jury Q’s on that first part of yesterdays afternoon session there was one that asked “What do you know about Travis”

I visited Travis’ blog only once, very briefly.. at absolute most 15 mins, and the answer she gave was covered by the very little I could pick up. She then waffled about stuff Jodi had said (conjecture at best) I thought “wow she probably charged about $20,000 for that!”

old (fashioned) for this stuff and needs to retire asap.

      • 04/12/2013 at 5:28 pm

exactly seriously any male is going to understand that when Jodi threw herself fawning, slithering all over him and cooing into his ear he was hardly going to be able to push her away. Not with her level of persistence.

We heard what she did to Ryan.. sliding all over him and titillating him with whispers in his ear “here, let me adjust that for you it must be uncomfortable”

Question… sooooo after these side issues are done assuming no mistrial motion is upheld Juan get to call his rebuttal witnesses right?

Do they go in listed order? If not what are the thought, quicker witnesses ie PPL, Walmart, Gas Station first.. get rid of them finish with Janeen or Janeen first?

I still would hope the state would call a gun expert to discuss how relatively rare a .25 is in the handgun world and why it is unlikely Travis would have one – especially up on the top shelf of his closet

      • WhereIsSHE
        04/12/2013 at 10:57 pm

I haven’t seen the rebuttal witness list, but if I were trying the case, I would start and end with witnesses who were STRONG for premeditation, no matter how tiny a portion of the case one might attribute to them.
In fact, the less defense counsel has to “make hay” about with the very first and last rebuttal witnesses, the better.

Start rebuttal STRONG and with confidence; end it with a short, quick “bullet” to the heart of the defense.

I’d put the pysch expert in somewhere in between.
Get the jury over that major “hump” (because it will be the most hotly contested) and end with something simple but powerful that you can cover in a quick series of bangs.

Jodi plus plan to kill Travis … plus a) theft of murder weapon, b)sneaky plans to get to Mesa (including furtive car rental; as can borrowing from X/gas can purchase –along with glaring LIES about having returned it–plus gassing up in CALI, despite claims ON THE STASND that she had gas cans to SAVE $$$ etc

      • WhereIsSHE
        04/12/2013 at 11:09 pm

plus c) Travis was VERY FRIGHTENED OF HER per his OWN WORDS just days before she secretly traveled to his home to MURDER him while–as she PLANNED IN ADVANCE–he was at his most vulnerable: in his ownome; his own bedroom suite; NAKED in his own shower, unable to even begint o comprehend just how TRUE and RIGHT his worst nightmares had bloomed before his very eyes.
Travis was very frightened of Jodi, but he also wasn DENIAL about her and about his very precient fears of hear.
Sensing her loss of control over him (HER OVER HIM, is more like it, contrary to what ALV told the jury), she did what ALL seriously controling, maniupulative stalkers do: they target the OBJECT of their “affection” (obsession) for ultimate and utter destruction.

She kiled him–and not over a trip to Cancun (though that certainly was a part of her rage).
She was angry and fulll of rage –and not as ALV would have anyone believ because of having been some sort of DV victim aper PLV. Rather, it was the sense she got that Travis was FINALY going to cut ties with her for GOOD that sent her into this murderous plot and whih commenced with her ultimate expression of ppure and unadulterated RAGE.
Deep, penetrativting stab woulnd ALL OVER HIS BODY; SLAHSED his THROAT from EAR to EAR; SHOT HIM, in LD BLOOD, because she could not tolerate the fact that TRAVIS WOULD NOT STOP BRESTHING; would ot STOP MOANING IN PAIN; would not stop TRYING TO GET AWAY; would not stop BLEEDING.

There are no two ways about this one.
S planned his murder and she carried it out in the coldest of blood that can run trough any person’s veins.

True & Syn, I haven’t watched many trials and don’t know how common it is for the State to ask an expert witness (so-called in this case), how much they charge. JM has asked her a couple of times (of course with wilmott objecting), the last time nearing the end of his cross today. I’m thinking maybe the ALV issue that needs to be addressed next week, may have to do with her CV. Maybe JM will attempt to have $$$ reimbursed to the state? Just a thought.

MMD, Can Juan call Matt for the rebuttal? He is a big liar as Jodi and maybe throw him a perjury ball. He lied so ugh for her. So many new pets and testimonies from TA’s friends was discovered after the Hoho testiphony that there is a lot to talk. I personally would love to see Matt, Lala, dr psycho paying fr all their bs. Lala shoud return each penny that she received until now because maybe she didn’t spend half of te time that she is charging to build this biased defense in favor of Hoho.

    • 04/12/2013 at 5:35 pm

that would be good because she is constantly ego centric and loves embellishing her professional past. She’s a TERRIBLE ‘expert” dreadful, to me I think she is more unprofessional than Dr Dodgy was. At least he had a few props…. huge thick books and such. He made an attempt to look scholarly… she can’t even remember her freakin glasses .. once ok… but almost every day??? absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention treating Juan the way she did AND talking back to the judge.. the list of her unprofessional conduct on that stand is almost endless.

The money issue almost always comes up. The oppositions wants to make sure the jury is clear they are making money – kind of a way to imply they are not genuine.

She can call whoever she wants. She just has to keep in mind that all phone calls from jail are recorded in Maricopa County.

      • Jay
        04/12/2013 at 6:34 pm

On HLN one of the commentators said phone calls from that jail are only randomly recorded. But maybe with this high profile defendant they are more conscientious.

    04/12/2013 at 5:49 pm

Syntara :the little Ive seen of her twitter stuff just all looks wrong to me. Are these phone calls taped> I assume they are? Wish the county of Maricopa or whatever it’s called would release the telephone recordings so we can hear what’s being said and we can tie it to what’s posted.
Can anyone get a request to have them released to the public like the interviews were?

Yes. The phone calls are taped. That’s how the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office verified to HLN that the tweets are actually the result of JA’s and D-Man’s daily chats. Yes. A Freedom of Information request would release the tapes.

    • 04/12/2013 at 6:02 pm

excellent I bet requests for release of those are already submitted…. can’t wait til they are released…:D Thank you much appreciated your answer.

      04/12/2013 at 6:04 pm

I’m sure the media has papered up the Sheriff’s office over it already – but I also think the county has stalled releasing anything else for a while

it’s amazing, Syn – all of the defendants I have been around that experience “sadness” actually produce tears (and snot), their noses get red, their eyes get red and puffy…not this one. JA should get some index cards she can hold up with the emotion she is try reveal written on them…

      • 04/12/2013 at 6:24 pm

She won’t need a mirror during the penalty phase – I think she will get to seen what real raw emotions look like during Victim Impact Statements… It will be tough on the Alexanders and equally heartbreaking to watch…

    04/12/2013 at 6:13 pm

Can’t you just imagine Wilmott and ALV going back and forth over the testimony and the what the jury might be thinking over pizza last night and finally reaching the brilliant conclusion that maybe they need to soften their stance toward Travis and mention that he had a few good qualities. How transparent! And way too little way too late!

    • 04/12/2013 at 6:17 pm

It’s cos hey realised the jury didn’t buy into the Mr Alexander/Jodi thing. They are useless at understanding human nature… I mean human as opposed to hardened biatch arse spin.

Which is why USAtoday and their ilk are horrified that “those horrible internet people” are actually questioning the status quo. How dare they!

      Q. Nowhere at the time did you speak to Mr Alexander correct.

      Q. And you would agree ma’am that your evaluation, in this particular case, is defective because you only spoke to the defendant who has lied, not Mr Alexander.

      A. I would disagree totally with your conclusion

Does anyone know or have a speculation as to why the Hughes’ are not on the rebuttal list. Their text messages to Travis were mentioned and I don’t remember hearing any part of them. Also, Travis’ journals were mentioned several times to latoilet but I thought Chris Hughes had some of them.. Were they seized or did he give them to the prosecution? We’ve watched the trial from the beginning and other than tuning out when Wingnut was up to bat (no offence to the actual bats) don’t remember them be in evidence so not even sure the jury has seen them. Clarify please ANYBODY. ty much

      • 04/12/2013 at 6:39 pm

The option to add witnesses never really ends until he rests.

    • 04/12/2013 at 6:38 pm

I’m conjecturing that rather than call the Hughes’ Juan feels Dr DeMarte will cover this by explaining Jodi’s psychopathology. I was quite surprised they weren’t on the list but if I had a good forensic psychologist to fall back on, I’d use them to explain the dynamic. Obviously Juan has confidence in his witness I would say.

    Syntara :
exactly seriously any male is going to understand that when Jodi threw herself fawning, slithering all over him and cooing into his ear he was hardly going to be able to push her away. Not with her level of persistence.
We heard what she did to Ryan.. sliding all over him and titillating him with whispers in his ear “here, let me adjust that for you it must be uncomfortable”
Yeah non assertive, non manipulative Riiiiiiiiiiiiight!!!!

Yes, and one of Travis’ friends was on HLN the other night saying that Jodi slid up to him and nibbled on his ear while they were at a church function, not even saying anything to the friend, just hanging all over Travis.
I had a friend like that, mind you not a murdering psycho, but with a similar MO with guys. She would use her sexiness and hang all over a guy she liked. At first because she was very attractive and knew how to work it, they’d fall for her, but they’d grow tired of her neediness and possessiveness pretty quickly. When they tried to break up with her there’d be a problem. One guy she moved in with (not his idea) asked her to move out and she simply wouldn’t. I think a month or so later, after many crying jags and manipulative tantrums she finally did, but she’d cry poor or do whatever she could, pull all kinds of crazy behavior. I used to pity any guy who got involved with her.

A juror question that was asked read somewhere along the lines of ‘JA testified that she was choked, struck and had a broken finger. Travis was shot, had a 4 inch deep cut to the throat and 29 stab wounds. Is Jodi the abuser?’ ALV said “No.” I felt this was a pivotal moment in this case. The jury has got to be thinking WTF?!!!!! Have a nice weekend everyone:)

    • 04/12/2013 at 8:08 pm

    04/12/2013 at 6:35 pm

Laine, I know what you mean. Just hearing the jurors questions today I got really excited too. Then JM so animated asking his questions, I really was hoping it would lighten the hearts of the Alexander’s today knowing they’re (jurors) not buying this crap either. After seeing a shot of them around the time it was announced juror #11 was released, they appeared devastated and my heart broke for them yet again. I’m not sure if it was the juror dismissal or whatever occurred in chambers; it was around the same time. I feel soooo bad for them.

Thank you all for your responses to my first post, it was a nice welcome 🙂
I am really curious about who (or what) is in charge of the Judge, is it ok to repeat a couple of questions on the new thread or does it become to redundant?

For some reason I am just stuck on LaViolette being so sketchy. I honestly believe she has sold her “expert” services (and soul) hoping to grab some quick cash and name recognition.
Did anyone else notice that she tried o cry “poor me” today? She started a statement about not having a retirement ?? but Mr. Martinez cut her off.

I kind of believe she was hoping to cultivate a new career path as a professional witness. I wonder if she got under the radar with fudged credentials in California? Mr. Martinez said the cases she claims to have testified in previously are not identified with case numbers and therefore can not be verified. She was trying to hide behind family court privacy regulations in criminal court, I wonder how many times that has worked for her?

I got the impression she was in trouble at the end today. Did you hear the judge tell her she didn’t want to hear her personal issues. Can she go to jail for lying and fraud? I wonder if she would stick to her continuum (?) if she had to room with Arias?

    • 04/12/2013 at 7:07 pm

I kind of believe she was hoping to cultivate a new career path as a professional witness.
I honestly think that’s a big part of it. It ties in with her obvious need to broaden her CV and claim more importance. This is reflected by the embellishments Juan has presented to us. Claiming she was Keynote speaker (most important) when clearly she was not. Claiming to have testified at certain criminal trials which clearly she did not.

For her to have the gold pin on there of testifying at the Jodi Arias DP Trial… whoa… her ego would almost explode and the animal would be fed. I am woman hear me roar I’m so freakin fabbotastic!

      Hi Irie,
Not sure about AZ, but in Calif we have a Judicial Council of some kind where people can make complaints against Judges, etc. It’s an ethical type of council that obviously doesn’t handle specific complaints about trial outcomes, etc.
As for ALV, I am dying to know what the “issue” is that she has to come back to court to deal with. Even if it is about perjury, she wouldn’t be jailed. And it is beyond rare for anyone to be charged with perjury anyway, especially during a trial. That would come after. My guess is that she will be sanctioned in some way for something that she has done wrong.

        04/13/2013 at 1:09 am

        Thank you for responding Crystal.

I perceived the judge as being angry when LaViollete’s misrepresentation of her credentials. She overruled the objections of the defense, to me she seemed to be intently following LaViollete’s testimony. The tone of her voice speaking to LaViollete, as court recessed, was much different than I have heard her address anyone else with.
It may be wishful thinking on my part, but I feel like LaViollete is in hot water.

I have never followed a trial before this one and I am trying to figure it all out. Do you know if a judge gets in trouble if there is a mistrial? I am also wondering if there is ever a backlash for elected judges when a high profile case ends in an unpopular verdict.

      • Crystal Harris
        04/13/2013 at 2:45 am

No, Judges don’t get in trouble for mistrials. And although they do not like or want to get overturned on Appeal, they don’t get “in trouble” for that either. And yes, if a Judge makes unpopular rulings in a highly publicized case, they can possibly be held accountable at election time. Though I will say that it is notoriously difficult to unseat a sitting Judge at the ballot box, even if there are some questionable actions by that Judge. The reason is that voters just never pay enough attention to that portion of their ballot, even though the judiciary is highly likely to affect them in their own lives…via civil court, Family Court, Probate, etc.
I know A LOT about this because I have a court case that has literally caused national outrage over the last several years. I’ve referenced it several times here, but so many new people are joining all the time. Dateline NBC is currently producing a story on my case. Bottom line is that even though a Judge ordered me to pay my own convicted rapist husband spousal support and legal fees, I found it easier to change to law in Calif than I did to unseat the Judge.

  54. 04/12/2013 at 6:59 pm

I may have missed this in all ur posts (scrolling on my iPhone can get tedious! :p). But will the defense be calling another witness? If so, is it Ms. Wong?

    • 04/12/2013 at 7:04 pm

Ms wong is to do with wormi’s mistrial motion re the pics outside the court I believe. So nothing to do with defense witnesses directly although she is appearing because she has been called by the defense in reference to that. THis conjectured from what others in here have said.

  55. 04/12/2013 at 7:00 pm

oooo I missed the first bit for the questions tonight.. err today.. was late getting in it’s was Friday night.. anyhow… I just saw a question that I missed RE: the ‘abuse’ claimed by jodi juxtaposed to the slaughter Travis received.

How caring of LaLa to finally mention his brutal murder. What a caring kinda gal she is to finally admit it was horrific. See LaLa knew you could actually acknowledge it! Well done… next step… processing… but time’s up so that’ll have to be next time!

Instead of the Three Faces of Eve today, I think I was watching the seven faces of Jodi. The way she changes from one minute to the next is extremely creepy to me. Someone that can change faces like this, no wonder Travis couldn’t see what was coming. I would like to see a collage of all of her faces and then try to pick out the one we’re going to see when the jury Foreperson says, Guilty, 1st degree pre-meditated murder. Wonder if I’d win; probably not.

    • 04/12/2013 at 7:05 pm

It’s amazing isn’t it? Once you know what to look for she’s sooooo transparent.

    • MMD

Yep that is the whole reason why JM impeached her to such a degree!

        04/12/2013 at 9:26 pm

Wow she has really crashed and burned. I thought, for a second, when asked if she was aware Arias had threatened to tell people Travis Alexander had issues, that she was going to change her testimony.
I don’t understand how, after hearing the tone and verbiage of the juror questions, she did not just concede that she may have misjudged Arias. Even if the statement had been disingenuous she could have avoided some of the carnage. (and obvi she doesn’t have ethical issues with telling little white lies under oath)
I just can’t believe she still took a hard line with Mr. Martinez. What.a.dork.

I thought when they called Jean Caseras to the stand, that was the end of it..Guess not…Or else there was another motion after that. Lost count….already have my shoes off counting my toes and ran out them counting how many mis- trial motions Nurmi had asked for…

    • 04/12/2013 at 7:40 pm

think nurmi has been watching more tv… errr researching more… and come up with more dirt. That’s my guess he doesn’t have a lot to do at the moment except watch tv and/or monitor social media

just now?? She was there last weekend!

    • 04/12/2013 at 7:35 pm

That wouldn’t surprise me. She was put through the ringer by Juantastic. And now, after a couple days of being put through the ringer by the jurors, she might well have a breakdown. She must be regretting selling her soul to the she-devil. One more life destroyed in some way by JA.

      • Janeto
        04/12/2013 at 7:45 pm

Actually, being through Juanderful, and jurors, she feels STILL she can’t be wrong! She’s not one to admit it either..sounds like WOHO to me! 🙂

Could also be similar to Drew Peterson’s reaction to being convicted. That man is definitely a sociopath. He reacted by letting out what was described as an animalistic scream – which was further described as a sociopath showing his true colors.

      • 04/12/2013 at 11:08 pm

Syn- while you’re looking up Drew Peterson, also look up Scott Peterson if you’re unfamiliar with his case. He’s also on Death Row in Calif for killing his wife and unborn son and is a total sociopath.

I know this is caddy, but I just can’t get this image out of my head. The other day when Hodi had her hair pulled back tightly off her face, I saw what someone posted here last week – she truly looks like a preying mantis! Those bug eyed glasses, her long face, her long neck and spindly arms…and those hands that she curls so unnaturally! It really creeps me out. And, of course, we know what female pms do to their mates, which makes it even higher on the creep scale.

  66. 04/12/2013 at 7:35 pm

LisaM She would use her sexiness and hang all over a guy she liked.

This sounds like BPD. Remember you asked me about Borderline Personality disorder? This is the kind of thing people with BPD present with. That is not to say this person has it, but it’d be a huge red flag to a psychologist to investigate the possibility.

Cluster B disorders overlap in symptoms but also have specific behaviourisms unique to each disorder.

    • Lisa M
      04/12/2013 at 8:28 pm

Ah! So that’s what borderline pd looks like. She was extremely manipulative and used to use her seductiveness on females too. She wasnt bisexual but she just had this charm that would draw you in. But she was very untrustworthy. She’d flirt with friends’ boyfriends for example. She also had no boundaries and loved attention. Oh and once when I went to visit her in Paris where she lived with another boyfriend we walked all over the city one afternoon while she openly sobbed the whole time because she was upset about her bf. I was embarrassed but she didnt care what people thought. Life with her felt like a big adventure, that was the draw. Everything was exciting and dramatic but the flip side was she was selfish and when it came down to it wasn’t nearly as empathetic towards you as she expected you to be towards her.

Your blog is witty, enlightening, love reading it. Everyone responding is humorous and so on to of this fiasco. Just a thought, I really was thinking Jodi’s motive was about the trip until today. The last e-mail from May 26 summed out up. He took to much crap from her, said his true feelings “you’re a sociopath, worst thing, evil”. The break-in was 2 days later. Iy was on! ALV kept reiterating that just 16 days earlier was the sex recording and she must have threatened to tell all his friends and the church. That could be why he said those things, probably on the phone with no written record (she’s an Einstein). The greatest problem is this..to much

    • Lisa M
      04/12/2013 at 8:33 pm

Excellent points! Yes I’m sure she threatened him with blackmail over the phone sex recording.

    • 04/12/2013 at 8:36 pm

think there are multiple reasons and the big trigger. I believe the trip is part of the fueling of her rage definitely as his rejecting of her. The trigger is him threatening to out her. He knew what she was but not quite enough about it to know NEVER threaten to out a sociopath if they know you have the evidence to back up your threat. They work their lives to hide their inner self particularly ASPD+P.

Moral of the tragic story: Don’t bait the psycho!

      • 04/12/2013 at 8:41 pm

I think he said…. do your worst… with the recording she made to blackmail him…. he was just sick of her crap and veiled threats.

By making it clear to her she had lost control of him – another huge contributing factor – (fyi: I’ve written about this before by the way) this further fueled her broiling buried rage.

      • Irie Girl
        04/12/2013 at 9:57 pm

Am I the only one that thinks it might have been, at least a tiny bit, motivated by money? I think on top of being psycho jealous she was also broke. She still owed him for an unusable BMW he expected payment for even after he cut her loose. She was very concerned with the check she had written him, and didn’t she make multiple bank deposits of cash shortly after the murder?
I kind of think she robbed him…is that too left field?

Yes Syntara! Extremely needy, huge fear of abandonment. She would just clamp down, dare I say like a pit bull, when someone was trying to move on from her or let her go, and she wouldn’t let go. She’d also use guilt trips to keep you feeling indebted to her. Yeah she loved to throw the guilt around.

    • 04/12/2013 at 8:48 pm

yep.. how about very emotional? crying to manipulate and seemingly hyper sensitive? did she ever threaten or use a veiled threat of suicide to control a partner who wanted to leave? ie guilt them into staying?

      • Lisa M
        04/12/2013 at 9:02 pm

Yes absolutely! She did. I can’t remember the specifics because its been a while but I do vaguely recollect veiled threats of suicide. I shared an apt with her once for a number of months and it was just always drama with her. Her emotions just ruled the day whatever they were. My other roommate and I finally had to ask her to move out (she wasnt even paying rent) and oh, boy, major guilt, we has abandoned her, etc.

Syntara: Do you know any good sites for lay people to explore BPD, or other personality disorders?

    • 04/12/2013 at 9:13 pm

hmmmm be very careful exploring BPD ther’s a lot of fly by night sites that ‘cashed’ in on it’s late 90’s hype.. when it was the catch all diagnoses for seemingly all cluster B disorders.

To be honest, I believe a better place to start is with manipulation which is a cornerstone of most of the cluster B disorders.

I highly recommenend the link below.

…..and buying Dr Simons paperback or kindle version of “In Sheep’s clothing” it will give you incredible insight into all these types of characters.

Fromthere you will have a very well informed foundation and able to chaff from the wheat so to speak.

I’m still watching trial today. Why does nurmi hang his head so low? juan does it but not so obvious. is this a court room fascade to establlish respect to the court? Or a respect thing to give way to JW? i have been interrupted with making dinner for a husband who has not come home yet….he is outs drinking with friends….cajan mushroom/beef pizza pie. (Really healthy stuff right? 😛). I guess he will get late night service.😘

I have noticed Nurmi’s head hanging. Unfortunately for him, it is forming into a hunchback!!

    • Carmen
      04/12/2013 at 10:27 pm

Nurmi hangs his head low because his head is so big and heavy that it causes him severe neck pain when he tries holding it up.

Yes absolutely! shared an apt with her once for a number of months and it was just always drama with her. Her emotions just ruled the day whatever they were.

    Yes drama queens! another biggie.

Now you see a difference to wobo? What you are describing very well could be BPD. Jodi shares some of it but a lot in Jodi is very different also.

    • Lisa M
      04/12/2013 at 9:15 pm

Yes I do see differences but its interesting how these disorders overlap. That makes it confusing. For example I have another friend who I’ve been trying to distance myself from who I’m absolutely convinced has histrionic personality disorder. She’s textbook. I’ve known her for years and always knew she had something wrong with her, just wasnt sure what and one day I somehow happened across a description if histrionic disorder and bingo she literally had every symptom.

      • 04/12/2013 at 9:47 pm

This is what makes Alyce’s testimony so irrevlevant. Her kind of therapy is largely useless even inflammatory to the disorders we are now seeing. Gone are the days of people believing in demons and possession without the understandings of science as we know it today.. nobody is flaling about screaming I’m possessed by a demon… ok maybe a few but you know what I mean!

That kind of thinking is what lead to the freudian thinking … dealing with neurotic delusions.

Nowadays psychology is recognising the new kind of mental problems are character disorders and they need different types of therapies such as cognitive therapy. Of course the more extreme of sociopathy and more particulary psychopathy still need more research to even start ‘fixing’.

culture has changed dramatically since the Freudian fixes were applicable. They simply must be updated to reflect current society.

      • 04/12/2013 at 9:51 pm

Actually, I just sat down with it. Mixed it with tonic water. I hate to say it but it’s got kind of a chemically taste. The BF says the same thing but he thinks it might be the passion fruit flavoring. I tend to agree. I just told him about the specialty wine shop and the Kiwi flavored one. He’s really interested in trying that one.

Although the more I sip the more I start to enjoy (and no, it’s not the liquor talking…lol). I’m now curious what you think of this flavor. I’m hoping to can get your hands on a bottle and tell me what you think….

    Irie Girl :
Am I the only one that thinks it might have been, at least a tiny bit, motivated by money? I think on top of being psycho jealous she was also broke. She still owed him for an unusable BMW he expected payment for even after he cut her loose. She was very concerned with the check she had written him, and didn’t she make multiple bank deposits of cash shortly after the murder?
I kind of think she robbed him…is that too left field?

Money comes into because she saw Travis as her meal ticket. He was her ideal, at least at that stage until she found someone better. He was such a huge step up for her she didn’t think she could do better. She was his meal ticket which is why she so desperately pursued him, her need for him to want her exclusively was so strong.

He was her sex, her status, her meal ticket. He wanted none of it. He hated her controlling manipulating nature he wanted rid of her. She couldn’t take it. She tried everything EVERYTHING to keep him… after that exchange on 26 May 2008 she knew she lost and she had to kill him, she couldn’t stand him being on this planet and not owned by her. She literally could not stand him daring to reject her.

That’s why the rage. That’s why the extreme level of mutilation and overkill especially when he tried to get away and she thought he wouldn’t die. That’s why the calm afterwards.

That’s why she says in the interview room when she is alone “Still beat ya” (Vid 5)

    • 04/12/2013 at 10:16 pm

my take on the cheque is… she’d paid back that guy (forget his name) if the cheque was cashed she wouldn’t have had any money. I think she was counting on the cheque not being cashed, she left it there as a ruse then got worried it might be cashed which was why she was so desperate to know if it would be cashed.

    • Irie Girl
      04/13/2013 at 12:09 am

She is just sooo bizarre-o. I imagine she will be more content if she gets the death penalty than she would be having to live the rest of her life as just another number in gen pop. Only because a young woman on death row for a brutal murder will be a topic of discussion up until and years after her execution. Whereas no one cares or remembers a random 55 year old female inmate working on a chain gang.

On death row she will go through the appeal process and end up in the news again, something she enjoys immensely. She will have plenty of time to draw and study vocabulary words without interruption. Since Arizona has only two other women on death row, joining them will provide Arias with an aberrant notoriety. Weirdo death row pen pal people will send her fan mail, I am sure she will find one of these whack-a-dos to Tweet for her. Eventually some nobody writer will interview her over the phone or by letter before writing a book that tells “the real story”, per Arias. Travis Alexander’s memory will be defiled reiteratively each time Arias’ defense strategy is mentioned. I think that even execution will feed Arias’ ego, I am sure she will assume death penalty opponents protesting her execution are there because she is “such.a.hottie”.

It sucks that the punishment demanded by the depravity of her crime is the one that her maladjusted, malignant personality will suffer the least under.

Sorry got a little off topic, my thoughts drifted wondering what she will do for money after she is convicted. Then I thought of how terrible death row would be…for normal people.

      • 04/13/2013 at 12:13 am

I totally agree with what you are saying. The best punishment for her is outed and obscurity. It’s the ONLY way to make her feel anything at all.

      • Lisa M
        04/13/2013 at 12:38 am

Well, maybe she’ll get LWOP and then she’ll just be another number. I think once she’s convicted the attention will die down; she’ll be just another inmate.

      • kristin
        04/13/2013 at 1:05 am

I swear JA thinks she is Roxie Hart. Feeding off the sensationalism of this case, other inmates treat her like a celeb(except her cellmate that slapped the ever loving shit out of her) the fact that diaries are involved. “He had it coming….” Maybe this will be her new line of drawings after snow white.

      • Crystal Harris
        04/13/2013 at 1:26 am

I SO agree with you. Don’t forget to factor in that given the state of the death penalty today, she will likely die from old age and natural causes before the state ever kills her. Here in CA, we haven’t carried out an execution in like 10 yrs…no joke. There are all kinds of lawsuits about how lethal injection is cruel and unusual punishment cuz even though we sedate the murderer first, we then have no way of knowing if they feel pain. That us seriously the crux of their arguments. I’m extremely pro-death penalty, but I believe the process is in dire need of a huge overhaul.

Hi everyone. Love your comments. Checkboutbthis video of Juan questioning Lala about the number of men she testified for in court. Watch wilnot at about the 1:24 mark. Looks like she’s trying to signal Lala. She raises her arm, then places her right hand on her watch and appears to rub her watch. I don’t think Lala saw that.

Excellent clip Carmen!!! Thanks, I picked up on the watch communication on Dr Loo’s so called sick day, Dr. Loo moved the face of her watch towards her just before WillNot asked to approach. • 04/12/2013 at 10:40 pm

yeah Im pretty sure Ive noticed it but not actually called it because I didn’t realise it wasn’t allowed for a long time. I just chalked it up as more underhanded shenanigans by the defense.

Now I’m curious, if you don’t have prearranged signals worked out with your lawyer 🙂 how do you ask to use the restroom while on the witness stand?

      • Crystal Harris
        04/13/2013 at 1:33 am

Irie, you would just directly look at the Judge and tell her/him that you need a small break. It doesn’t have to be done thru secret messages with your lawyer.

kristin :I wonder if JA is thinking that her goose is cooked, her defense team is the reason, the jury has always hated her or she can still pull a win out of this case.

Oh, I’m sure of it. Sociopaths blame everyone else. So when she is convicted and sentenced to death it won’t be because she deserves because she murdered Travis in cold blood, it will be because her lawyers sucked, the judge hated her, the jury hated her, Martinez was out to get her, it’s Nancy Grace’s fault, on and on and on. Another prominent trait of Sociopaths is believing the rules don’t apply to them and having delusions of grandeur; hence her statement on 48 Hours that “No jury will every convict me.” Also, the Narcissistic side of her Sociopathy will have her convinced that everyone believes her because she’s been such a successful liar/actress her entire life.

I believe dear Jodi is in for a very rude awakening when that verdict is finally read.

Watching trial still. Judge always speaks to jw using many nods, head shakes, hand gestures, it almost looks like she is being mentored for a judge position. Nurmi whispers in jw’s ears….what is that all about? Juan seems very patient and seldom speaks while they are at bench. Knowing Juan and judge have worked together for years, almost looks like sherry and Juan don’t need to say much except placate defense.

I don’t know, as horrible as this case is going for her, Jodi seems somewhat blissfully unaware or detached from what is going on around her much of the time. It just makes me so angry. She has this attitude like she’s watching someone else whose life is on the line, not hers, or maybe she’s convinced herself she’s doing well, or she’s plotting some evil plan with her cohorts that she’s certain will derail the process and spare her from a bitter end. (Either a mistrial or a hung jury) I remember during the CA trial, everyone said Casey was a sociopath and she didn’t have the same anxiety levels as a normal person. That’s why she could act like she didn’t have a care in the world when the jury wasn’t in the courtroom, so maybe it’s the same with Jodi. All I know is they showed Travis’ sisters today and they were both crying with looks of utter sadness on their faces; they looked so spent. And then they showed Jodi, sitting straight up in her chair, looking pretty refreshed, a little pale maybe but not even an eighth as bad as they looked. It really is sickening, and it makes me feel like any victory in this case is pretty hollow considering this psychopath doesn’t even have the normal range of emotions.

    • 04/12/2013 at 11:23 pm

exactly he only way to make them feel anything is to out them At the moment she is in her element… Alyce is doing the exact opposite and wobo is thriving on the fact she’s baited and caught another one!

BUT let’s watch her demeanour change if Dr Janeen starts telling it like it really is… oooooeee then you watch the difference… will be in interestin if Dr Demarte is anything like I think she will be… watch closely.

      • 04/12/2013 at 11:58 pm

If DeMart is as good as I hope she will have Jodi shanking and clenching that fist as if there’s a knife in it like she does when Juan comes close to outing her. Did you see that when he came ever so close to calling her a sociopath at the end of his cross?

      • Commerce1
        04/13/2013 at 12:15 am

Yes. I saw rage. And that was from a LAWYER coming close to calling her a sociopath. Imagine the rage when a forensic psychologist calls her one – someone who very authoritatively knows of what she speaks?

My ex-husband, the sociopath, is very disdainful of psychologists. Why? My theory is that he is terrified one will out him. For that reason he has tried at all costs to keep our son away from one. He’s afraid what my son tells the psychologist will out him.

      • 04/13/2013 at 12:26 am

Sounds familiar. Whenever he sends one of his manipulative bullshit emails I am compelled to receive and read because we have an 11 year old son to “co-parent” – and I point out the sociopathic elements, he becomes strangely silent.

    Syntara :

Definitely! Her testimony and her experience are completely irrelevant. The defense was really scraping the bottom of the barrel with this witness.

Editor’s note: Tanya Young Williams is a TV personality and advocate for victims of domestic violence. She is the estranged wife of former NBA star Jayson Williams. She is on Twitter.

Domestic violence has taken center stage at the Jodi Arias murder trial due to Arias’ claims that she was a battered woman at the hands of her dead lover, Travis Alexander.

As an advocate for the victims of domestic violence, I exercised careful consideration before discussing my disbelief in Arias’ allegations against Alexander. In a recent opinion piece, I outlined why I believe Arias abuses Battered Woman Syndrome, which could undermine the hard work of abuse victims’ advocates everywhere.

Many believe, as I do, that her flagrant abuse of this defense could make it harder for actual battered woman to receive the protections appropriately afforded to them in criminal trials involving domestic violence. I was also concerned that the Arias’ domestic violence expert, psychotherapist Alyce LaViolette, would take the stand and potentially dilute the potency and effectiveness of the Battered Woman Syndrome.

I was afraid that LaViolette would use Alexander’s own words, via text and voice messages, to characterize him as an abuser, as opposed to painting Arias as an abuse victim. As expected, LaViolette testified that Alexander exhibited the characteristics of an abuser. She later admitted under cross-examination that she used very limited resources to refute or corroborate Arias’ allegations that Alexander abused her on numerous occasions.

I was also afraid that LaViolette would use broad strokes to explain domestic violence and refrain from assertions that Arias was actually a victim of domestic violence. This strategy would allow her to maintain a level of credibility in her profession, in light of the fact that Arias is an admitted liar. To my surprise and dismay, LaViolette blindly followed Arias’ path of lies to opine that Arias was a victim of Alexander’s physical and emotional abuse.

LaViolette is a professional with 30 years of experience in the field of domestic violence; a professional with college degrees that require in-depth understanding of psychology; a professional who has extensive experience in offering expert testimony. Therefore, her staunch and unwavering position that Arias is a victim of domestic violence is baffling in light of the evidence to the contrary.

Consequently, this brings up the question: Why would LaViolette risk her credibility and private practice stability for Jodi Arias? In the words of famous sports broadcaster Warner Williams Smith, “Let’s go to the videotape.”

I reviewed LaViolette’s testimony from her first day on the stand, where she hinted that she fully understood the negative impact her upcoming testimony might cause. In response to defense attorney Jennifer Willmott’s question about whether or not she had a private practice, LaViolette responded with a laugh, “I hope so when I get back.”

LaViolette made another very telling admission while on the stand, indicating that in the past, she has reluctantly made professional decisions because she “needed the money.” In outlining her jobs over the past 25 years, at one point she stated, “I didn’t want to do that… but I needed a paid position. I had two children and I needed a job.”

Twenty minutes later, regarding opening her private practice, she stated, “The funding collapsed for the shelter and I needed a job. I thought it might be a really good idea to try to start my own business, which is something I’ve actually never considered in my life before.”

Could the power of money be the force behind LaViolette’s willingness to compromise her professional stature and integrity? According to ABC News, she is being paid what she stated is the standard expert fee of $250.00 per hour. Her fee increases to $300.00 per hour for court appearance days. She has spent 44 hours interviewing Arias, untold hours reviewing documents and preparing for her testimony, and has been on the witness stand for 11 days already — and she isn’t done yet. Her total compensation for involvement in this trial could be quite significant.

Equally important to note is that LaViolette’s book, “It Could Happen to Anyone: Why Battered Women Stay” — which she plugged while on the stand — will be released in its third edition on April 23, 2013. The publisher’s strategy to capitalize on LaViolette’s newfound fame makes perfect marketing sense. However, her publisher probably did not expect the backlash and outrage from this trial: Since LaViolette took the stand, more than 700 people have written negative reviews of her on her book website, most of which talk about her testimony rather than the book.

As a fellow advocate for the awareness and eradication of domestic violence, I am deeply disturbed that a leader in this field would allow her professional reputation, credibility and ethics to be called into question by supporting Jodi Arias. It is unfortunate that some victims of perpetual domestic violence — or battered women — are forced to use fatal means to save their own lives, but in my estimation, Jodi Arias is not one of them.

Tracey & Syntara (which my own personal dyslexia always wants to turn into Sinatra): it’s just such a shame that the whole Jodi train wreck is so inherently ridiculous and such primo comedy fodder… but at the same time there’s so much tragedy here.

It’s things like this video that are keeping us sane. Well, that and this blog of like minded people. While we laugh and joke sometimes we never forget why we all are here. I see the Alexander sisters in tears and my heart just breaks..over and over again.

So when I come to this site and find some humor amongst the horror, it’s what carries me thorough. If not for these laughs or this blog, I would sitting watching this trial by myself in a state of abject depression. I think a lot of us would.

Does anyone else feel like this? i need validation. Good lord, I’m a pushover. I have sympathy for lala when Juan keeps asking her about remembering the answers. She looks so defeated. I hope is not going to suffer a stroke tonight. She sold herself and has just realized the consequences.

    • Jim
      04/13/2013 at 12:16 am

Don’t feel sorry for her – feel sad for the true victims her actions they will surely be made to pay for

    • 04/13/2013 at 12:23 am

as Ive said if she realises the consequences she will need therapy. I’m quite serious about that. But she knew what she was doing so I have no sympathy. (was going to say I’m sorry I have no sympathy for her but no.. I thought about it and I’m not sorry about it at all.)

      Here’s why:

I think of Samantha sobbing, and Tanisha.. no I’m sorry but being so heartless to true innocent victims of an atrociously heinous cold blooded act born out of selfishness and narcissistic urges.. no! not one ounce of my compassion falls in Alyce LaViolette’s direction I save every drop of that for the Alexanders. Alyce was cold cruel and totally uncaring so she deserves the same from me.

      • Lisa M
        04/13/2013 at 12:42 am

I have no sympathy for her whatsoever, because what if her testimony swayed one juror and what if there is a hung jury because of her? If she had her way, Arias would be acquitted, correct? So no, not an iota of sympathy.

      • 04/13/2013 at 12:48 am

yes ad Lisa’s to mine! I didn’t think of that. That’s deadly serious literally.

    • Commerce1
      04/13/2013 at 12:23 am

I have sympathy for her as a human being who’s been through a difficult ordeal, but I have no sympathy for her as a professional who sold her soul for a monster and trashed a victim in front of his family just so she could sell her books and establish a comfortable retirement fund. Let’s all remember, she chose to put herself in this position. So while I have compassion because I don’t like to see anyone suffer (well, except for Jodi), she also is an adult and a professional and she made the choice to wreck her career and crash and burn in an attempt to go out with a professional bang on the back of Travis’ murder.

    • Tracey A
      04/13/2013 at 12:30 am

Annie – I feel for ya Sweetie. But I can’t sympathize one iota for ALV. She willingly sold her soul, career and reputation to the Devil. She had a choice and she sold out for money. it’s my understanding that 11 other experts turned this case down. She should’ve walked away as well. But to put her completely biased opinion out, while trashing Travis’ reputation, and trying to make JA out to be the “victim” is abominable. Don’t fret…she did this to herself!

      • Crystal Harris
        04/13/2013 at 1:58 am

No sympathy here for Alyce whatsoever. The big reason is that I’m a victim if DV, and she sold me out big time. She has set back the issues of true DV victims in a huge way and I’m disgusted by it. And second, let’s be honest, Alyce thought this case would send her into the next level as far as her career goes. She could add this DP case to her CV, and be on her way to really making a living testifying forensically as a nationally recognized expert. Up to now, we found out, she really hasn’t made it to that level yet. And with her book’s strategic re-printing due this month, she thought she’d score with a killer book tour and sales.
She can call it cyber-bullying, but really it’s simply a backlash from people who are truly offended and disgusted that someone could do what she has done to true DV victims, and they’re not going to let her get away with it.

Hi – I haven’t posted very often, but I do read this blog everyday. I recently move to the great state of AZ and just heard on the news that they are investigating Jodi’s artwork and seeing if they can get the proceeds to go towards paying for her defense. When she initially was charged, she could not afford to pay for her defense, but now that she has some income coming in, that could change and she would have to hand it over (they are considering ALL artwork that has been sold). I am keeping my fingers crossed on this one, because Jodi should not be making any money on her notoriety. These are my feelings, because I am not an expert ;).

I just finished watching the videos because I missed court today. Love love love these jurors! The BEST moment for me was when Judge Stephens told ALV in open court not to tell her about her problems! That was such a delight. Does anybody have any ideas what precipitated this? The saddest thing today was to Tanisha & Samantha crying…You’d have to be a piece of wood to not have felt it viscerally. Thrilled to hear that Az is looking into attaching/seizing her monetary profits. Juan was terrific today. I’m so proud of the jurors. Feel badly for Poquito Mas – he has been sick for more than a week and never missed a minute of this trial, unlike ahem the defendant and LaLa. She was still defiant in her testimony today but Juan revealed her as she truly is and for all the world to see. What she thinks that she has, to be so haughty is a mystery to me. By the end of the day I think that total humiliation had set in and that is not something that sits well with anybody let alone a narcissist.

      04/13/2013 at 12:48 am

Hiya Nancy! From what I heard during the live stream, I think ALV had a dr’s appt. I heard her say something about “and there could be follow up tests” and that’s when the Judge said “don’t tell me about your personal situation”. And had ALV not played her games w/Juan she’d have been off the stand long ago.

What did you hear about Poquito being sick? I heard on HLN from the pundits that are in court everyday never saw him sick or ill. What do you know about this? Very very curious to hear more…

      • NancyB
        04/13/2013 at 1:02 am

I’ve read some of the court watchers who have mentioned for more than a week that he was visibly ill and coughing. Do ya think that ALV’s return on Tues has to do with Nurmi’s Motions to Dismiss? I can’t figure it out.

        04/13/2013 at 1:10 am

Hi Tracy! I’m pretty confident Juror Poquito is really sick. You could hear him coughing during the morning court proceeding.
All we need now is more of them getting sick, so pray that doesn’t happen!!
WHen the judge made her announcement to the jury, she said “As you know, Juror #11 is ill and has been excused”.

Actually, I’m really “glad” to hear he was sick (glad’s a bad choice here but bear with me). I thought it might’ve been a ploy by the defense to get him off the Jury and Judge disguised it has him being ill. I’m sorry to hear that but I’m glad it wasn’t a defense tactic.

I know, I have a lot of mixed feelings about this, especially now that I will be paying for this trial. The victim, Travis Alexander (and his family) have been so shortchanged in the justice system here, that it makes me think twice about how the victim is being portrayed, and just how many rights that they don’t have. It makes me ill just to think about it. I know that justice will come for Travis and I hope that Jodi pays the ultimate price. I will do all I can to support the Alexander family in their search of justice – just like you all have here on this blog. I know they appreciate it!

Sounds familiar. Whenever he sends one of his manipulative bullshit emails I am compelled to receive and read because we have an 11 year old son to “co-parent” – and I point out the sociopathic elements, he becomes strangely silent.

This is why I know him threatening to out her and the texts calling her a sociopath were the catalyst. If he said ” do you worst” regarding her attempt to blackmail him with the phone sex recording she had lost. Those are the two biggies the ONLY biggies… outing them and winning wooooeeeee can you imagine her rage?

Through personal experience and by extension my behavioural science study.. I understand all too well this was the fatal mistake Travis made. He did not have that final understanding of what he was dealing with, and who would?

    • Commerce1
      04/13/2013 at 12:52 am

I agree. My ex shares the same tendency to obsess about “winning” and being “better.” I would never dream of outing him publicly or threatening to out him publicly because I know that would be dangerous for my son. To put it in perspective, my son inherited several hundred thousand dollars in life insurance from a friend of mine. My ex’s immediate question to my lawyer: If my son died would I inherit half of it or would she get all of it……I have long believed my ex will do whatever he thinks he can get away with – which is why I put everyone on notice about the comments he made about my son and the money.

But back to Jodi and Travis, I truly do believe that he signed his death warrant by posting in his blog about “Why I Want to Marry a Gold Digger” (cause he was publicly rejecting Jodi as a choice), by further publicly announcing she was no longer an option by taking Mimi to Cancun, by telling her she was a sociopath and threatening to out her, and by daring her to beat him.

      • 04/13/2013 at 1:01 am

all that certainly would have fed her rage. The thing is that crime scene, if nothing else screams RAGE RAGE RAGE every contributing factor fueled and increased it. She had it buried for god knows how long all the while it was added to as he rejected he in more and more ways.

THAT’s where the rage came in. I is not by accident that scene ended up like that, nor is it by accident she was so calm after the adrenaline left her bloodstream.

All those factors but the 26th may communications were the catalyst or trigger if you will.

But… I believe she had been planning it since he ‘allowed’ her to return to Mesa.

      • Lisa M
        04/13/2013 at 1:04 am

And I would add, by supposedly (if Jodi is to be believed) showing her photos of Mimi and saying this is the woman he intends to marry. That would be very dangerous because it would completely fuel her jealousy and rage.

      • 04/13/2013 at 1:08 am

yep LisaM another contributing fact that added to the rage.. see how many there are? Marry that up with the nature of the crime scene and it’s clear in the story it tells.

Thanks, guys. I literally almost threw up in the court room when my lawyer told me my ex had contemplated what he might inherit if our little boy died. But it definitely illustrated to me in no uncertain terms what kind of monster I was dealing with. That’s why I made sure our judge, his lawyer, our parenting coordinator were aware of his comments. I figured it was the best way to keep him safe. Especially since he had a trip to the Grand Canyon planned with our son. I know I don’t have to connect the dots for you on that one.

YES – “Through personal experience and by extension my behavioural science study.. I understand all too well this was the fatal mistake Travis made. He did not have that final understanding of what he was dealing with, and who would?”

This breaks my heart. In a comment of yours several days ago you mentioned that you had to play games with your psychopath because to just cut them off is deadly. That’s so true. Travis did not fully understand and just as you said – who would. That fake crying again today during JW’s millionth attempt at rehab, she put the whole dramatics on and then at the last side bar it vanished in seconds. Any idea why both sisters were crying in court today. The testiphony lies get to me so bad so I can only imagine how it rips out their hearts.

    WhereIsSHE :
plus c) Travis was VERY FRIGHTENED OF HER per his OWN WORDS just days before she secretly traveled to his home to MURDER him while–as she PLANNED IN ADVANCE–he was at his most vulnerable: in his ownome; his own bedroom suite; NAKED in his own shower, unable to even begint o comprehend just how TRUE and RIGHT his worst nightmares had bloomed before his very eyes.

    Lisa M :
I have no sympathy for her whatsoever, because what if her testimony swayed one juror and what if there is a hung jury because of her? If she had her way, Arias would be acquitted, correct? So no, not an iota of sympathy.

Lisa – It’s my understanding that JA cannot be acquitted as she has already admitted to killing Travis. What we don’t want is her guilty of a lesser charge, i.e. 2nd degree. If the death penalty was designed for anyone, it JA!

    • Jim
      04/13/2013 at 1:07 am

JA is alleging self defense – she could be acquitted – lessers are often thrown in case the jury can’t get to murder 1, and they don’t want acquittal to be the only other option. That being said, I think the chance of an acquittal in this case (based on juror questions) is ruffly the same as being eaten by a polar bear, and then that polar bear being eaten by a grissly bear…

      • Lisa M
        04/13/2013 at 1:11 am

LOL, Jim. What do you think the chance for manslaughter is? Being eaten by a polar bear in Miami?

      • Jim
        04/13/2013 at 1:18 am

I’m not aware of any lessers being offered – but important to note that I don’t specifically know…. what ever is on the table will be in the jury’s instructions…

      04/13/2013 at 1:09 am

You’re right, Tracey. She is shooting for second degree, I know that. Which would make her about 40 probably when (if?) she got paroled. This is what Jodi wanted to plead to I’ve heard and it’s apparent from her carefully crafted words on the stand that it’s what she’s really hoping for. I guess she could get manslaughter, as well, but she and her defense team know that’s pretty unlikely I would guess.

    • NancyB
      04/13/2013 at 1:15 am

If the jury finds her not guilty due to DV and her fog then she would be free to go on with her life — such a truly frightening prospect but thank goodness this is a very smart and sharp jury and this is not even remotely possible, imo.

      • Lisa M
        04/13/2013 at 1:20 am

yeah, I just don’t see that happening, Nancy. It happened with OJ and CA but I can’t see it happening here at all. The best the defense can hope for at this point imo is a mistrial. Just hope they don’t get one! I won’t breathe easy until the verdict is in. (and it’s first degree)

      • Tracey A
        04/13/2013 at 1:22 am

I must give some credence to this, however, based on the Jury questions, I’m not thinking that this a remote possibility. Ha! I just finished reading the last of your post….great minds!

I agree, Tracey A – “if the death penalty was designed for anyone, it’s JA!” I have never felt so strongly about someone receiving the death penalty, except for the baby killer TImothy McVay.

Yep! The OKC bomber. I can think of others, Bundy, Scott Peterson, Manson…but JA’s personality and her air of superiority just gets her headed to the front of the line.

      • Crystal Harris
        04/13/2013 at 2:13 am

Of course no one wants a mistrial. But I will say one thing…when the state re-prosecuted the case, they tend to do such a better job the 2nd time and have a super super high conviction rate. So we know based on jury questions that Jodi is not getting acquitted. However, you never know if there are holdout idiot jurors unwilling to vote guilty and hang the jury (sometimes they do it for fake in high profile cases). Either way, Jodi would stay in jail, be re-tried, and she WILL be convicted someday! Just know that. 🙂

about to read this.. but isn’t that photo at the top telling?… Juan is majorly frustrated and Wobo la Pooface can barely contain her smirk. Did you notice that?

    • 04/13/2013 at 2:49 am

that’s a great summation. When I was doing those jury questions… I noted her hesitation and how hard it seemed for her to remember what should be very memorable stuff. Hesitation like that, even on far less important issues is a very obvious sign of lying. Juan saw all that and of course, investigated her claims.

Let’s hope something comes of it.

I think Juan has already impeached her testiphony during both of his cross exams of her, no? Wong’s appearance , I think has to do with the continuation of the defense’s Motion to Dismiss – after Jean C. testified they said another HLN employee would be called who was a producer and that was the last that we heard.

    • Jim
      04/13/2013 at 1:33 am

I agree – the jury has heard what she has to offer – and they will decide whether or not to rely on her opinion – I think she has created some problems for herself behind the scene, and the court is going to deal with them prior to her leaving it’s jurisdiction…

    • 04/13/2013 at 3:26 am

ja that’s what the article says now, it’s updated . Now says Juan is going for perjury and that needs 2 or more inconsistencies… suggest re-reads if you read earlier. Think she’s updated quite a bit by the gist of it

  137. Lisa M
    04/13/2013 at 1:22 am

All I can say is it would be nice if the issue with ALV is impeachment for the obvious reasons, but it would also be so nice if the prosecution brought a motion before the judge instead of the defense!

I just listened to this mornings juror questions again. One was if she didn’t believe in a case would she turn it down. Of course she then babbled on and on endlessly, and then said, “but,
    I don’t have a good retirement after 35 years so……….” – sustained.
Boy was that ever telling that she did it for the money! Would like to have heard

She can’t keep her lies straight!!!

    • 04/13/2013 at 2:14 am

      This is very significant.

This is a big warning sign to a decent psychologist. A particularly manipulating person morphs to cater to their target.

This alongside the snow white doodle that sold on ebay (Jan 2013) . and LaLas in court admission of seeing JA around the time she reported to Juan which was Novemberish leads me to believe LaLa discussed Snow White with her, probably to build that ridiculous rapport she spoke of, when volunteering an apology (another huge nono when dealing with a manipulative character.)

Think about it… she doodles snow white and tells Alyce she cut her hands while slicing APPLES. This is NOT coincidence and to an even half competent psychological assessor it ring LOUD warning bells. Apparently to LaLa land, it’s totally insignificant.

It is NOT coincidence Alyce in Snow White land is the only one she told this to.

      • 04/13/2013 at 2:20 am

ohnyeah.. she doodles snow white with a black eye and crying… spell battered woman anyone?? this is too easy!!!

Tracey A :To put it in perspective, my son inherited several hundred thousand dollars in life insurance from a friend of mine. My ex’s immediate question to my lawyer: If my son died would I inherit half of it or would she get all of it……
Wow! That’s some scary stuff and VERY telling. I have a somewhat similar experience with my sister. I haven’t spoken to her in almost 10 years now but I still fear for my mother’s safety.

If you are worried about your mother, I think the best thing you can do is let people know about anything your sister has said regarding inheritance. That way, hopefully, she will realize she would be a person of interest if anything strange were to happen to your mother. That’s why I told anyone and everyone, IN WRITING, about the comments my ex had made about my son’s inheritance. Fortunately, he made the mistake of making the comments to my lawyer so I had a very credible witness to back me up. He still tried to paint me as crazy for suggesting he might harm our son, but guess what? I didn’t care. He can call me crazy all he wants if it keeps my son safe.

    • Tracey A
      04/13/2013 at 2:03 am

Thanks, Commerce! Already taken care of. Anyone remotely connected to my family knows that my sister is bad news (big time understatement here). If something were to happen to my mother, anyone who knows us would react similarly to what Travis’ family and friends did to JA…everyone would be calling the police to tell them to look at my sister.

And it’s well documented in court documents and such.

Thank you so much for your advice and concern. Much appreciated.

Based on the photo (it was kind of hard to make out on my computer, but it looks like she’s young and pretty) this is going to kill Jodi! To have a young, pretty, brunette, accomplished woman with a PhD testifying against her! OMGJodi has a GED, that’s it folks! I know that may sound catty, but yeah, I think we might see some rage.

Yes, isn’t it awesome? The bimbo who has the IQ of Einstein (snort) has only a GED she obtained WHILE IN PRISON and spent her life using her amazing “intellect” to waitress and commit a murder she GOT CAUGHT FOR………(and trust me, that is not to disparage waitresses – it’s just that with an IQ rivalling Einstein’s, shouldn’t she be curing cancer or something rather than commiting murder and/or waitressing?)

Imagine how pissed she’ll be that an attractive forensic Ph.D is testifying to the fact that she is a psychopathic, murdering loser!!!!!! Who “beat cha no?” Jodi?

Regarding lala. @SueCeron I found that earlier this week, there are actually two that are cancelled. I believe the dates coincide with her undergraduate degree. If you recall she referenced that she was doing “testing”. Another lie because she wasn’t licensed to give a test as an undergraduate,.she may have been helping as an assistant or part of a class. That notation of cancelled is standard when a license is no longer activated (either expiration w/out renewal, lapsed insurance, failure to complete CE, etc.). The license she had was limited and required her to operate under specific supervision. Also the guy she worked under had his license revoked (he was a bad boy apparently) about 5 years later and after hers coinciding with her graduation year.. She does have a current license in family therapy, same website just different group. And that license is active and in good standing. All she has to do to keep it up is have her insurance paid and complete her CE credits. If you check out her website and her 20 page CV Alycie also delivers CE courses so I think that most likely explains why she claims she has 50 CE credits per year. Most are probably offered online like in most fields or in a large hotel where attendance is just sign in, disappear whenever you want, sleep and collect your credit as long as you pay the fee.

I’ve been meaning to comment on one of the justifications ALV gave for Jodi not writing anything about DV in her journals. ALV said that if Jodi was making up the DV, Jodi would have started writing it down in her journal even before the murder and around the murder and after the murder and “would make up a better lie” we’re her exact words.
Does ALV not realize that Einstein Jodi just didn’t think of the DV self-defense Defense until they met her? And then it was too late to go back and change all her journals to corroborate all the DV she said Travis perpetrated upon her. It just doesn’t fit, yet ALV was determined to make the square peg fit in the round hole for Jodi anyway.

When (not if) she is convicted, the Alexander’s can file a criminal suit to get those proceeds, even if the money has already been spent. Yay! BTW, seeing I am now in AZ, I was thinking about going to the trial – thank goodness my husband is being supportive as I have not yet looked for a job. Anyway, if I go, does anyone want me to bring anything to court to show our support of the Alexander’s or Juan. I have been wanting to go for awhile, but I would be winging it by myself, but am willing to give it a go. I would not do anything disruptive, but if I got a chance to show some sort of support, I would love to do it. Any suggestions? Input? Should I go at all??

Oh hell ya go. Take a kangaroo for me 😀

You’d be surprised! Beside I am going to a flea market tomorrow, and I will see if I can find any trinkets to bring. I don’t want to sound dumb, but because this trial is so prevalent, and there have been lines waiting to get in, what time before the start time, should I be there? Thanks Syn!!!

I missed the last few minutes of the trial yesterday. Is there any video out there where I can see JM finishing his questions? Also heard about the judge telling ALV something about not wanting to hear her personal issues. What was that and is there any video?
