Good morning. Watched Dr Drew last night. I know I said I was done with HLN but I got sucked back in. Anyway, was hoping someone would have asked Deanna last night if she ever told Travis about walking in on JA baking the cookies and looking thru Travis’s computer. He obviously didnt know she would have been there if he asked Deanna to check on the dog so JA broke in and went through his things. More stalking that never came up during trial.

Hi Dewey, I loved the respect the commentators showed Deanna – the segment is really worth watching:

Hi Gold, I wondered if she was possibly sending an email to herself from him?

      • 05/08/2013 at 7:54 am

I would agree with that Dewey – I think that she staged many things, including the tapes.

Deanna has fans all over the world.

      • 05/08/2013 at 7:59 am

I’m pleased to hear that. She is the epitome of goodness in my book Robert.

      • 05/08/2013 at 9:05 am

I bet she did send herself emails many times from TA computer. Then she would have deleted the sent emails on his account so he would never know she did that. Makes sense. I wonder if she sent any female friends emails saying how much he loves Jodi, which they would believe because it’s coming from his email address. I can only imagine what else she did on his computer.

    • 05/08/2013 at 7:18 am

Also if anyone missed the Chris & Sky Hughes segment:

Unfortunately there are many questions that will be unanswered. Travis was so much under Hoho spell that he wasn’t listening a word of his friend was warning him. I believe every word that his friends are saying now about expressing their worries about evil b***ch. It was not only about sex because since he wasn’t a virgin he was getting sex elsewhere anyway. Hoho was not just the normal sex it was about kinky sex that the normal girl wasn’t going to give to him. He could not get away from the three hole wonder and ended up butchered because she knew how can trap him through notty sex. I believe that she offered him crazy sex before killing him because she thought that he was going to change his mind and get back and marry her. Since he didn’t , she carried on her original plan. I see no remorse on her because on her distorted mind she gave him an option to escape death and was his fault not to take her back. She is so sick that i can barely wait for her conviction. Poor Travis if he had listened to his friend and take some precautions to i.e like changing locks and garage code he could have a chance, maybe. This long wait is agonizing me. I imagine how his family is feeling right now. I will continue to support them with my donations and prayers.

One would think – one might hope – that after months of listening to, and watching, wobo, wormi, willnot, slimy gus, lagasbag, and the stodgy doc – one could go to the theater and “get away” from it. Well, from last night’s production of Waiting for Godot, while I was waiting for the Jury, these lines rang an Arizona bell in my head:

-There’s man all over for you, blaming on his boots the faults of his feet.
    ===========================================
-There are times when I wonder if it wouldn’t be better for us to part.
    -You wouldn’t go far.
-That would be too bad, really too bad..
    ==========================================
    -What about hanging ourselves?
-Hmm. It’d give us an erection.
    -An erection!
    -With all that follows…
    -Let’s hang ourselves imediately!..
    -Go ahead
    -After you
    No, no, you first…
    =============================================
-I’m curious to hear what he has to offer. Then we’ll take
    it or leave it.
-What exactly did we ask him for?
    -Were you not there?
    – I can’t have been listening.
    ============================================
    -We’ve no rights anymore?
    – You’d make me laugh if it wasn’t prohibited.
    -We’ve lost our rights?
    -We got rid of them.
    ===========================================
-I’m asking you if we’re tied.
    -Tied?
    -Ti-ed
    -How do you mean tied?
    -Down
    -But to whom? By whom?
    -To your man
    ===============================
    -Look!
    -What?
    -His neck!
    -I see nothing
    -Here
    -Oh I say!…
    -To treat a man….like that…I think that..no…a human being…
    no…it’s a scandal!
    -A disgrace!
    =============================================
.-The more people I meet the happier I become. From the meanest creature, one departs
wiser, richer, more conscious of one’s blessings. Even you…
    ====================================================
-You want to get rid of him?
-I do. But instead of driving him away as I might have done, I mean
instead of simply kicking him out on his arse, in the goodness of my heart I
am bringing him to the fair, where I hope to get a good price for him. The truth is you
can’t drive such a creature away. The best thing would be to kill them.

Can I just say, regarding Jodi’s pleas earlier in her case to have the Judge force Nurmi to stay on as her counsel: it doesn’t seem like a good idea to me to have an attorney on your case who is only begrudgingly working for you because a Judge is forcing him to. “You WILL be my lawyer and you WILL like it!” How dumb is that? Nurmi really does dislike Jodi. It wouldn’t have taken that long for new counsel to get up to speed on all the aspects of her case, and given the state’s deference to the Defense Team since this is a death penalty case (as we’ve all witnessed), she would have been allowed as many trial delays as necessary for new counsel to be as up to speed as needed. So I think this is just one more bone-headed decision from average-intelligence Jodi.

    • Dewey
      05/08/2013 at 7:39 am

If Nurmi helps her win this, shes happy, if she loses, she can claim he didnt effectively represent her because he didnt want to be there and said he didnt like her. Maybe the basis for her appeal?

      • Lisa M
        05/08/2013 at 11:11 am

Good point Dewey. It’s a win-win for her.

      • WhereIsSHE
        05/08/2013 at 1:16 pm

While Jodi certainly COULD make that argument on appeal (dumber arguments have been launched), the fact is that it is a LOSING argument and will not be of any help to her.
Defense lawyers have used the “I don’t even like my client” statement in closing argument–when they sense that the general concensus in the courtroom is that the defendant is not a likable character–for decades.
That isn’t what is meant by “ineffective assistance of counsel”, legally speaking.

    • Robert in Rotterdam
      05/08/2013 at 7:52 am

Well, I keep thinking wormi wanted more money; he went to public defneders office to see how it works and now he wants the big bucks. If he had stayed at the public defenders salary I would have some respect for him. But he wants to leave and is persuaded not to, by an increase in salary. I dont know about anyone else here. but I had numerous encounters in my work life where the issue of money was placed second – or third- to my professional sense of what has value. I don’t see wormi doing that.

      • Dewey
        05/08/2013 at 8:05 am

Youre right. He filed more than one motion to withdraw and eventually his hourly rate was increased and he stayed.

      • Kathy A.
        05/08/2013 at 11:54 am

He is definitely motivated by money. He tried to get off the case because he originally was with the Public Defender’s office when he was assigned to it, then went into private practice and said he could not afford to represent JA and the County increased his rate to what he makes in private practice – either $225 or $250 an hour, don’t remember which.

      • WhereIsSHE
        05/08/2013 at 1:26 pm

I’m no Wurmi fan, but you guys are ridiculous.
The defendant’s name is Jodi Arias.
As for public defenders? They make shit for pay and have crazy case loads. You would leave too if you had to support a family.
Prosecutors make a lot more than public defenders.
And lots and lots of prosecutors leave the DA’s office to become criminal defense attorneys for the increase in pay.

The reason Nurmi could not afford to rep her afer he opened his own office is likely due to the fact that he has brand new expenses to cover, such as office space, overhead, EMPLOYEE salaries, etc.

When you work for the GOVERNMENT (both the DA and the PUBLIC DEFENDER’S OFFICE are GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE POSITIONS, doncha know) the only professional expenses you have are the clothes you wear to court on your ck.

I wish people would focus their anger at Jod

    • Lisa M
      05/08/2013 at 11:09 am

I have to say, for someone who supposedly dislikes his client, he provided her with a vigorous (well that word may seem like an oxymoron when applied to Nurmi lol) defense. I mean he certainly managed to do her dirty work pretty zealously in spite of any dislike he might have felt towards her. So I’d have to disagree that she was wrong in her judgement re: Nurmi. As we’ve seen he’s been relentless in his slamming of Travis.

I knew that story JOdistein told about Deanna finding her in the house when Travis hsd asked her to housesit was a load of bunk.. Deanna relsted pretty much exactly as I haad deciphered the Jodispeak.

ie Jodi was there uninvited, Deanna had a legitimate reason to go there and lo and behold Jodistein was there and the 3 hour telephone call of ‘explanation’ never took place that was probably the call Deanna made to Travis saying… “well guess who I found baking cookies at your house…. GOLDILOCKS!!!”

I can’t link it, but there was a story in today’s Dutch paper about the coverage of the trial by CNN. They showed Nancy Grace “talking via satellite, with ear plugs held tight” to Ashley Banfield – who supposedly was somewhere else . What the paper showed on video was the same bus going past them. They were about 30 feet from each other, butthe impression was reporters on the scene sharing insights.

I’m in the same time zone as AZ, and I hated it whenever NG pressed her earpiece and said it was time to take us back to the courtroom…despite the fact that it was hours after the courthouse closed. I know this is not news to anyone here, but….Bombshell tonight! Nancy Grace is a fraud!

(btw, I’m pretty sure Headline News changed to HLN because the phonetics hit too close to home: Head Lyin’ News.)

    • 05/08/2013 at 9:36 am

First off I think it was a cumulation. Then one final thing made him finally see that she was just as Chris and Skye had been trying to tell him.

This could be combination of two major things that have been revealed that he was most upset about.

      1. Related to the email she concocted by “Steve Carell” (This we know is true) He really wanted some truth out of her about this.

      2. Saying she lost her phone.. and oh my.. oh dear …. there was a recording of their phone sex on it. (We know the recording existed but do not know if she ever told him about it. Unlike most I’m not convinced she did but it’s a definite possibility.)

Whatever it was he didn’t tell Sky or Chris… which seems strange to me. If it was the sex recordings I would have thought he might have told Chris or at least his bishop because Chris said Travis had ‘fessed up to his bishop about all that.

It’s something that will probably forever remain an unknown just a most likely scenario. Like so much of this tragic event.

It had to be something Travis couldn’t even voice…the charge of pedophilia would be something I could see him not being able to share with anyone or even put in writing. More and more though, I’m thinking it was something that no one will ever know.

      • 05/08/2013 at 10:15 am

I dont think it would be the paedophilia… my reasoning on that is that by how people are about that charge they wouldnt have believed it. I don’t think even she had thought that ridiculous at that stage.. or she would have come out with it from the beginning. Don’t ya think?

      • Kathy A.
        05/08/2013 at 12:25 pm

Whatever it was, he didn’t want to put it in writing knowing she would use it against him. I don’t know, but my gut feeling because of him saying “you betrayed me” is the phone sex tape. But as you and others have said, we’ll probably never know.

I was the victim of stalking myself. The stalking went on for 8 years. I moved 140 miles to get away from him and he moved to within a 1/4 mile of me. The above interview with Deanna really brought it all back. When she talks about discovering Jodi in Travis’ house baking cookies I so understood why Travis would be so afraid. Some might think stuff like that is funny but it isn’t. My stalker would break into my house and clean various rooms. I’d come home to roses on my kitchen counter, and love letters under my windshield wiper. He’d write poems about me and have them published as letters to the editor in our small town newspaper. It all sounds either nice or funny but it’s the complete opposite. It fills you with dread.

I finally got a restraining order and an order of no trespass. About 1 year into it they lifted the ban on assault weapons in my state. He wanted one but couldn’t get one with an active restraining order in place, so he took me back to court to get it lifted. He represented himself so I had to be cross examined by my own stalker. It was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. I had to explain that I desperately needed that protection because it took almost a full year of having it before I could stop looking up every time tail lights went slowly down my alley, and stop checking to see if his car was on the corner across the street before I went to bed. I could finally stop feeling ill every time the phone rang, and stop having my boss check the parking lot before I left work. Fortunately I won.

The thing about stalking is that the stalker doesn’t love the person they’re stalking. It’s about control. They want to possess you, not love you. It’s why they don’t care about what you think. If they did they’d get it and move on. They don’t feel you have the right to end a relationship. This is Jodi in a nutshell. Having been a victim of someone like her, I can completely understand why she killed him. It was the ultimate last act of control.

I’ve been reading the comments on this site from the beginning and I think this is the most intelligent discussion site there is. I came out of lurking to give my perspective on just how serious a matter this kind of behavior is.

    • 05/08/2013 at 9:48 am

Don’t think anyone here finds it funny in the least.

      • 05/08/2013 at 9:51 am

What you went through would have been horrendous. Any form of psychological or emtional abuse is terrifying and effects every facet of your life. It puts you in a constant state of fear.

It is real emotional and psychological terrorism. Which makes Lala Violette’s claims all the worse. Because she should know, due to her many years dealing with victims of this type of abuse… that Jodi was the perpetrator of it.. not the target.

Charity: Thank you for your contribution. Please don’t think for a moment our banter about Jodi making cookies, or any other snide remark about Jodi’s behavior, is meant to diminsh in any way the seriousness of stalking, and most especially the terror stalking victims endure. One can only imagine how frightening it all must have been and your frustration and humiliation dealing with a legal system that seems bent on only protecting villians. Your points of love versus control are well taken. Many, many others here have expressed similar views and experiences. The joking is only meant to carry us thru what would otherwise be another unfathomable act by a living monster who perpetuated against a really good guy. My apologies!

      • Charity
        05/08/2013 at 11:06 am

I’m in no way offended by the lighthearted banter. I was more reacting to the video clip in which Deanna and others can’t understand why Jodi would kill him. To me the stalking is a real insight as to why and how her mind works. When I dated my ultimate stalker he treated me like crap. I was in a bad place in my life and he instinctively knew it and targeted me. I’d never gotten flowers, help or anything from him until I left. Then he had to get me back in the game. The defense made a big deal about Jodi having sex with Travis before she killed him. That is no surprise to me. She needed to get him back in the game and she’d been able to control him with sex in the past. When it didn’t work, she ended the game on her terms.

Yes2wine….Yes I do feel my situation is over. I live in a small community so I do see him fairly often and will avoid any contact with him. To even respond to him saying hi can start the cycle over again. I’ve not had any contact from him for about two years now.

  32. 05/08/2013 at 10:06 am

Wow, I feel so bad for Travis Alexander’s friends and family. I know this wait is excruciating. When we were waiting for the jury to deliberate at my friend’s murder trials, one of the juries reached a verdict on Thursday, April 25, but the judge sealed it until the other jury had deliberated. That was the longest weekend of my life. Luckily for all of us, closing arguments for the second trial were on Monday, April 29, and the jury took only 40 minutes to reach a verdict. We received justice, well, as much justice as possible. Here’s hoping Travis Alexander’s family receives the same. I just hope somebody isn’t arguing for Murder 2 & they aren’t buying Nurmi’s argument. The reason Arias didn’t kill him right away is because she wanted to ensure that she was the last person on earth to ever touch him and have sex with him. It’s so obvious. I think I’d rather see a hung jury than a Murder 2 conviction, or, God forbid, manslaughter.

    • 05/08/2013 at 10:30 am

I’m with you cat… if they can’t agree on M1.. then please let it be hung because anything less will be a win for Jodi & I can’t stomach the thought of her getting the last laugh.

Yes, I do think that lie evolved over time. She’d forgotten that she’d been grooming him to go for the little schoolgirl fantasy and slipped up with her story of the little boy pic. I just think it had to be something that was either a set up/scam of hers that was too embarrassing/humiliating for him, or she deleted any reference to it on his computer or phone (can’t remember if it was a text exchange or email the week prior to the murder). Also, I keep thinking that maybe one thing she’s said that has some truth to it was that on the day of the murder, he was really, really angry. Maybe she showed up to say she was backing off on whatever scheme she’d cooked up, just to get in the house, but there’s a good chance he was furious with her. I can totally see her getting someone worked up into a rage. Not saying he was a threat to her or that he would have harmed her…just that perhaps he really did show her some hatred. No doubt, she can really push people to that point. I haven’t liked what she brings out in me just by seeing how she operates in court and on twitter.

    • 05/08/2013 at 10:36 am

Yep Ringading I’m of this train of thought to.

I reckon she turned up with a number of “peace offerings” and a ruse

      1. Trying to placate him about whatever was behind the 26 May txt exchange.
      2. The CD’s she had that he wanted
      3. The car payment cheque
      4. The need to stay cos she arrived at 3-4am knowing he wouldn’t refuse.

      • ringadingding
        05/08/2013 at 11:56 am

Yes, and she probably sold it all under the guise of having moved on (headed to her new BF’s in Utah). As much as the murder, I’m disturbed by the way she can elicit negativity and hatred in others. That’s why I try to resist using anything other than her initials to refer to her. No matter the verdict, she is happy as a pig in sh*t for finally having achieved notoriety and worldwide attention, not to mention all her new bffs in prison she’s grooming.

    • 05/08/2013 at 11:23 am

The defense’s whole pedophilia claim is utterly ludicrous. Pedophiles are gender specific, they’re not merely “child-specific.” If Travis Alexander was turned on by little boys, he wouldn’t also be turned on by Jodi pretending to be a 12 year-old girl. It’s absolutely revolting. They’re destroying this man’s memory, and Arias, Wilmott, AND Nurmi know full well that Travis Alexander was not a pedophile. He was attracted to Arias–as questionable as that thought is–along with her “beach balls-glued-to-her-chest” enhanced, fake, plastic rack.

Hi All! Crossing all fingers and toes that today is the day.

One thing that I haven’t seen discussed here or in HLN commentary (yes, I watch HLN. I typically enjoy the analysis and commentary, although since In Session was severely truncated the amount and quality has really decreased. And I have a thing for Vinnie Politan, okay?) is the gun being the sole point for determining premeditation. HLN is all over those gas cans as pointing to PM, but I think the gun is a much simpler focus. Either Travis owned a gun or he didn’t. By all accounts he didn’t which means Jodi brought it. If she brought it she meant to use it. Boom, done, premeditation. I don’t even see why the jury needs to decide on abuse, why she was there hours before she killed him, etc. If they can’t explain the gun then it’s first degree all the way.

Legal beagles and other smarties weigh in.

    • 05/08/2013 at 10:43 am

I think the gas cans are great for pre-med simply because she lied about them so much on the stand.. and even t the very end in the closing her own attorney tried to say… nothing to see here by directly contradicting Jodi’s answer on the stand.

To me that screams pre-med or why would they do such a thing. To me shows desperation to distance themselves from that can.. and no other reason for that other than them knowing it’s an extremely strong piece of evidence proving pre-med.

    • Ginger

Yesterday FamilyOfLaw provided us with a link to the jury instructions:

    http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/valleyfever/ariasjuryinstruct.pdf

If I were on this jury the first sentance, second paragraph (paragraph cut and pasted below) would cause me some real angst! When I think about the number of theories we have talked about, using the same evidence, no wonder this jury is taking so long!

“It is your duty to determine what the facts are in the case by determining what actually happened. Determine the facts only from the evidence produced in court. When I say “evidence,” I mean the testimony of witnesses and the exhibits introduced in court. You should not guess about any fact. You must not be influenced by sympathy or prejudice. You must not be concerned with any opinion that you feel I have about the facts. You, as jurors, are the sole judges of what happened.”

Will anyone, ever, know what “actually happened”, other than she planned to kill TA and did so? Anxious to hear what you bright thinkers make of this ….

    • 05/08/2013 at 11:07 am

I think the key to knowing what happened is to work through all the evidence and find the best scenario that fits all the evidence and her psychopathology. Once happy with that, it’s the closest one can get to ‘knowing’ what happened. How close you come is going to be dependent on how diligent the reseaarch you put into it is.

But there will always be some points of conjecture, some of probable deduction and some of certainty. The idea is to get as much of the latter as possible, as little of the first as possible and the rest falling into the centre category.

      • 05/08/2013 at 11:10 am

So why don’t we try to work through it and see if we can come to agreement and work towards a murder one verdict?

I’m still recovering from the form “potential” jurors had to fill out. I know I know I know that this is “common” in America but it is also devised by the people running the courts. I mean, what organizations you belong to, what periodicals, books and newspapers you read? Anyone in family a criminal? Have you ever been arrested? It goes on and on.

They’ll tell you “its confidential” Yeah. Thanks.Seems to me like info a fascistic state accumulates. Either there should be porfessional jurors, sprinkled with 1 or 2 “citizens” or take the first 12 names out of a hat and call that a jury. ‘Originalists’ might point to when the process started–but remember, its self interested people who are making these rules. Gender and race and religion were long considered for jury duty. We’ve had too many failures based on the ability to pick and choose who, the particular lawyers involved, want to see on a case. The system itself is broken. Where else do we rely on the lowest common denominator to set standards?

    goldgem :
Hi Dewey, I loved the respect the commentators showed Deanna – the segment is really worth watching:

Listening to her really breaks my heart. I think he was so confused that he never realized that Deanna was the woman that he was looking for to be his wife and mother of his children. I understand that sex for them was not like what Hoho was giving to him, he loved Deanna and respect her and at the other side Hoho trapped him with dirty sex to manipulate him and keep him under her spell. I cannot even imagine why is taking so long to reach a verdict. Travis didn’t have a gun and the gun at scene by itself shows premeditation there is no doubt about. On Hoho’s mind there is no remorse because she really believe his death was his own fault because she gave him a chance to take her back and he didn’t. That’s the reason why after all his friends warned him against her he keep having crazy sex with her because hebgot addict to three hole. Poor Travis he never saw this coming because he was not evil like her. This long wait for the verdict is killing me because I want like everybody ( except the crazy people that follows her) joint his family on the fact that therebis justicebin Earth.

    • 05/08/2013 at 11:17 am

I don’t think he realized the level of evil he was dealing with either. The wait is painful for sure. If this jury doesn’t come back with M1 (which possibly they can’t see it like we can because they haven’t been privy to the discussion & evidence we have), can you imagine how they will feel when they get to see all we have & realize they got it wrong & will have to live with that for the rest of their lives. I just keep praying that Travis is in that room & helping them find the right answer.

I hope that his voice can be heard above that sick audio. His soul hopefully whisper to them the right direction. Yes2wine, we can only imagine how much pain he suffered before hs death. I am so believing that he didnt knew about the photos until he turned and saw her. His last picture tells all. He really believed that she was gone.

I think this captures the whole man-woman-sex-thing that has been the bane of the development of the male of the species. Eugene O’Neill’s Catholic women often capture the dichotomy of the male’s perception: Woman is a Madonna or a Whore. No in between, no blurring of definitions, no “madaonna by day, whore by night,” it’s either/or. It’s possible that the LDS Church’s teachings and instructions, mirror these. I don’t know. But I don’t think it’s beyond what Travis may have been going through. Not necessarily understood that way rationally, but intuited that way. He was too smart to have been misguided for too long. he figured it out. Bad timing.

To be serious … Deanna did say that by the time they ended it she was no longer physically attracted to him. She was ready to move on, in that way, but always loved him as a friend. And, of course, he willed Napoleon to her …. I bet that just chews JA’s ass!

I agreed with you. I only watch HLN because Vinnie. Sexier than him only Martinez (sorry MMD but I am not Hoho , I can’t lie)

  48. 05/08/2013 at 11:28 am

Ok we need to make a jury!!! so we can pass the time working to a guilty verdict trying only to limit to what the jurors have to work with…. !

    Who wants in?

    • Robert in Rotterdam
      05/08/2013 at 11:32 am

we’ve been an ongoing jury. Who says the only way to make a judgement is to not talk about it for 4 months? Whose idea was that? If one of those experts made any sense, this room is smart enough and varied enough to have incorporated them into an evaluation. Really, I’m beginning to think the whole process needs an over-haul.

      • 05/08/2013 at 11:35 am

was thinking we step through these instructions as laid out by Judge stephens and simulate what the jury should be doing basedon what we know but try to limit it to only what came out in court

      • HJ Madison
        05/08/2013 at 11:48 am

Syn: Going thru the instructions would be good. I am curious about what others think of that damned sentance .. “your duty to determine what the facts are in the case by determining what actually happened ….”. Fact are facts, right? They are not altered by my opinion of what happened… are they? Maybe I am just “splitting hairs”?

I don’t know if you would want me in your jury since I’m a relatively new poster. But I’m looking forward to those mock deliberations. Someone’s gotta play devils advocate in there tho…. Unfortunately

      • 05/08/2013 at 11:39 am

no need for devils advocate.. hard enough to get bunch of ppl to agree without a deliberate devils advocate… well I think so anyhow. and if anyone else wants to jump in don’t see why you can’t .. probably good you havent been here that long cos then you don’t know a lot of what we have discussed so it helps diversity

        05/08/2013 at 11:40 am

I would expect there to be a devil’s advocate in any discussion of 12 people on any matter of importance. Personal and intellectual integrity would provide the energy required. Maybe I’m being naive, but I’ve been around lots of discussions in my life and I dont recall being buttoned up in one of them, nor do I recall trying to shut someone out.

  53. 05/08/2013 at 11:53 am

    WHAT THE JURY DOESN’T KNOW:

    1. Arias offered a plea early on, admitting guilt to 2nd degree
    2. That “pedophile” letters she submitted were forged, and that after the court rejected them she had her mother try to sell them
    3. That the Hughes feared for their children’s safety when Arias was discovered listening at the door.
    4. That Arias cornered and confronted Clancy Talbot in the bathroom at a Pre-Paid legal convention to stay away from Trvis.
    5. That she was not at all reluctant to give Abe Abdelhadi a blow job in public, leaning against a car.
    6. That two of her lawyers didn’t want to represent her.
    5. The police interview tapes with her parents, shedding light on how screwed up she’s been all her life, and how the father assumed she had something to do with the murder when hearing about it from her.

There may be more, this is all I can recall off the top of my head..

As i read the list, I think of the case posted last week of a successfull appeal in NY. The PRISON GUARD who gave a KNIFE to a PRISONER had been convicted because the jury was also told, that the PRISONER was a GANG member with a
rap sheet an arm’s length. So they gave her another trial wher it will show she “just” gave a knife to “a” prisoner.
Now. Seriously. How have we come to this?

  78. Katie
    05/08/2013 at 12:15 pm

Okay my opinion as a juror (I’ve watched the whole case)

The 3 biggest witnesses to throw out
    Laviolette, Samuels, and geffner …

If Geffner did not assume the position as ME for the defense, I might have actually given him more credibility. Since the defense was clearly looking to strike during their closing arguments against dr. Horns typo about the dura mater, I feel Geffner deliberately played into something he knew was a mistake, which shows bias towards a defendant that he had no contact with. If he had stayed on topic about the validity scales, and different tests administered, I may have taken some of his testimony into consideration. But the ME comments, his dissection of dr. deMartes diagnosis though he never examined jodi arias hisself, his comment that exaggeration a are not lies, and his connection to alyce, leave me to believe this witness shows a dangerous bias to the defendant, and I should view his entire testimony with caution..

Samuels and laviolette are obvious witnesses to throw out… Clear bias by the gifts to jodi, taking 44 hours of time with her becomes more “therapeutic” as opposed to an objective analysis, lying on the PTSD test, and the lack of information that alyce had to gauge a horribly misguided view of who Travis was as a person, and her reluctance to answer any prosecution answers straightforward leave me no choice as a juror, but to not trust that testimony

More on Nurmi trying to Squirmi free:
    RE: Robert & Dewey above @#15 & #16

Nurmi didn’t ‘stay’ at the public defender’s office for higher salary, R & D — he had already resigned before the final judge’s ruling forced him to continue to represent Arias. And they weren’t going to hire him back – too much red tape. So they hired him as an outside lawyer, paying him the going rate.

That’s SOP in Maricopa County. The Public Defender’s office frequently hires outside attorneys to represent clients, depending on case load, and other circumstances, like the availability of in-house lawyers with death penalty experience.

I believe Willmott is also a hired outside lawyer, at the same rate as Nurmi. Although like Nurmi she had been salaried at the PD office in the past, she hasn’t been listed as full time staff since 2010, and has her own practice and office listed on her website, along with her husband Ken who specializes in business law.

Both Nurmi and Willmott will make over a million dollars each from the trial; and if they manage to get a 2nd degree verdict, their professional reputations won’t have suffered at all; and in fact they will be sought out by guilty clients who can afford them, like Roy Black who got the Kennedy guy off from rape charges, and Johnnie Cochran who sprung OJ, they’ll have lucrative careers ahead of them..

    • Dewey
      05/08/2013 at 12:27 pm

      thanks for clarifying jay

    • Robert in Rotterdam
      05/08/2013 at 12:33 pm

Thanks for clarificatio. But the fact that is important to me – is that he wanted OFF a case but stayed ON it and he did so, after being offered more money. The timing of his “resignation” of his “wanting to leave the case and his “hiring” was uninterupted. That’s the point of interest mattered.. I think the court would have let him leave the case and another defender put on it. I think the court paid attentiion to wobo’s DP plea. Whatever. He stayed. He made more money. He could have left.

      • 05/08/2013 at 12:56 pm

If the Judge Orders you to remain on the case do you have an option odor do you need to obey the order?

      • Robert in Rotterdam
        05/08/2013 at 1:26 pm

I mean Nurmi’s case has the same stench as the Geffner money. Yeah, you see “he did’nt get paid because “his” institutre did. Nurmi quits Defenders office and then is hired by Defenders office. Stench.

    • 05/08/2013 at 12:53 pm

You’re right Jay. Nurmi didn’t stay with her because of money.. I remember reading about it a while back. He had owned his offices and staying on the case would have caused him financial problems because he now had office related expenses, etc. I believe the Judge said he would be paid 225.00 an hour and Wilmot 195.00 hourly,

      • Robert in Rotterdam
        05/08/2013 at 1:22 pm

Well, he stayed with the case; he made more money. He knew the rules of the game when he “resigned” from the Defenders office He was on a case for 2 years; is it common for people to expect to be releasesd from a case when they spent 2 years on it for an indigent prisoner? If it was common, no problem. If it wasn’tr, whats his beef?.He wasn’t forced to stay on the case by court order was he? If he was, how do we know it wasn’t calculated by Nurmi and wobo from the get go to make him more money for the gig?

    05/08/2013 at 12:21 pm

  87. 05/08/2013 at 12:26 pm

ok you lot.. while HJ is gone.. what is the first fact we agree on…

    1. Jodi took a trip to Utah from Yreka… but for some reason took a detour to Mesa after renting a WHITE car in Redding?

    • Katie
      05/08/2013 at 12:37 pm

Yup, crucial point for the prosecution. The testimony that goes into these facts are damning…

      1) Darryl brewer testified that she said she was going to MESA not UTAH,
      * a juror however might be swayed to believe he was mistaken because the rest of his testimony could be viewed as a bit sketchy.
      2) Colombo said he offered her a red car, and she instead asked for a white car so as to go more unnoticed
      * I actually became worried that a juror would see logic in that as opposed to premeditation, I am more confident as I go over the testimony however, that the jurors will see how calculated a move that was
      3) PRICELINE!!!!! I love this point. There is nothing Jodi can say about this. She lied on the stand about why she chose a rental car company in reading as opposed to Yreka or somewhere close to that. Juan brought that home, and I believe a juror will have experience with how Priceline or Expedia works.

    • Regina
      05/08/2013 at 12:40 pm

She never planned to go to Utah. Since she got the godfather gun she knew her trip was going to Mesa. No doubt of it. She told Matt she was going to Mesa not Utah.

  88. Regina
    05/08/2013 at 12:33 pm

    HJ Madison :
Syn: Going thru the instructions would be good. I am curious about what others think of that damned sentance .. “your duty to determine what the facts are in the case by
determining what actually happened ….”. Fact are facts, right? They are not altered by my opinion of what happened… are they? Maybe I am just “splitting hairs”?

I think that sentence is a joke. Hoho is the only one that knows what happened, how, whent and she is not going to tell until somebody pays a lot of money assuming that she is right with ” no jury will convict me” BS.

We know more than the jurors (assuming they took their oath seriously with no HLN) but eventhen have enough evidence to understand her intentions when she took that trip.

    • MMD
      05/08/2013 at 12:41 pm

      Yes

    • Katie
      05/08/2013 at 12:48 pm

      Yes

As a juror there are two options for me to believe

      1) jodi staged a burglary and stole the un used to kill Travis
      2) I believe that Travis did have a gun and that jodi used it

A juror could only believe that jodi stole the gun. The choice is believing in a stolen gun, that was known to exist in the residence of jodi arias at the time of burglary. Or to believe a known liar, and say that a gun that was NEVER KNOWN to be in existence, was the one used to kill Travis. The testimony that there was NO evidence a gun EVER was in Travis’ home, and no witnesses other than jodi that said he had a gun, gives me no logical choice but to believe that jodi arias stole that gun

LOL watching Searcy give his testimony.. how desperate were the defense they had to dig up this guy who barely knew her. This was one of the few ‘friends’ they found suitable to testify on her behalf??? pretty darn sad!!

    Morning/ night Syn!
OMG- just re-read the stuff from LATE last night (my wee hours of the morning)! And I’d like to say… Friends don’t let friends drive drunk, OR post when when they are EXHAUSTED after a long day of verdict watch and nighttime kitten delivery! (and ya, I’ll admit they are slightly fugly…but their tiny ears are the cutest things!!!)

The GS stuff you posted, a lot of it I never knew about, that is VERY interesting! As for the accomplice theory, I agree, she was alone in the house- and I agree that MM has some dirty involvement, and I’d love to know to what degree. The camera strap makes it all very plausible, and the wet floor makes sense too…

Gawd, I’m still fuzzy… I look over more of your past posts after MORE coffee… You’ve given me a lot to think about.

OK.. back … this was confusing!

The State rested their case. On Monday, Jan 28 there was an evidentiary hearing outide the jury presence. Still scrounging on who testified. On Tuesday, Jan 29 the DT began with Mr. Searcy. He testifies and then the jury is released for the rest of the day. Chris Hughes testified, Abe Abduhali (spelling?) is called on the telephone, Gus Searcy re-takes the stand. All outside rhe jury. There is another evidentiary hearing without the jury on Feb 13 with Sky Hughes. So, the morning session with Searcy is all that the jury heard ….

    • 05/08/2013 at 1:00 pm

    good Juanderful day ev1!!

Not sure I’d be good on the jury cuz I would have said fry the biotch long ago! (o- i did say that long ago!)

Gus and the Hughe’s did not testify with the jury present.

Deanna pointed out on Dr. Drew that the ho’s car was NOT parked in the driveway OR in front of TAs house when she went over to fed Nap (per TA’s request). I wanted to finish hearing D’s story but Dr. Drew cut her off. She said how the ho was sitting on the couch with TA’s laptop and had been baking cookies. What we did not get to hear is what happened when she told Travis this? Wish Dr. Drew would have let her finish .

Hi all- I’ve been following the blog and comments for months and just love you guys! I know you’re in the middle of your mock jury, but I there’s something that’s really been eating at me and I’m hoping that somebody can clarify. I’m wondering when the phone recording was made, whether the jury knows when it was made, and whether the jury heard the exchange on the recording where Jodi says, “That’s so debasing… I like it!”. I have a really hard time stomaching the defense’s claims that Travis used abusive, degrading language with her WHEN SHE SAID SHE LIKED IT! So what I’m trying to find out, in a nutshell, is if the jury has enough information to make this revelation and if they can place that comment into a timeline. I was really hoping that Juan would point this out, but I don’t think he ever did. I would have loved to hear LaViolette try to spin that comment.

    • Nienna
      05/08/2013 at 1:07 pm

Phone call recorded May 10. And yes the jury heard that! They played the whole tape in court and then the defense went back in with little bits of it. It’s in evidence and the jury can review it again it they want to.

    • nyccowgirl
      05/08/2013 at 1:51 pm

The spin she put on it was that she was lying to him because she so wanted to please him and didn’t want him to get mad…somehow about him being egotistical and that she had to feed it. Same with her saying she faked the orgasm and that she didn’t enjoy it.

      • Margie
        05/08/2013 at 1:57 pm

I do believe she faked the orgasm. And even if I did value LaViolette’s opinion, it still doesn’t change the fact that she told Travis that she liked being debased. You can’t fault him for going along with something she said she liked. Thanks for the clarifications! The suspense is quite unsettling!

Several thoughts after reading today’s comments thus far —
    1) Dr Drew is a terrible host. He steps all over his guests and his co-hosts when they are talking. When Deanna was getting choked up talking about what Travis left her in his will, I’m relatively sure everyone watching could see that, without him interrupting her to point it out.

    2) I am not a body language expert by any means, but I do see a difference in Travis’s body language in the photos of he and Deanna vs he and WOBO. With Deanna, he looks so much more relaxed, his smile seems genuine, they both seem to be experiencing the same emotion. I’ve always thought his smiles looked strained in the photos with WOBO — maybe because she was always taking his picture with her in it, or maybe he had an inkling it would come back to bite him in the ass. The guy who loaned her the money for the last trip said “she had thousands of pictures she always wanted me to look at and I couldn’t have cared less.”

    3) Juror questionnaires are extremely intrusive, especially since jury consultants and/or psychologists got involved. (That’s just for you Syn.) Too bad we no longer have the system which started the process we now follow for oath taking. In the 14th and 15th century, if someone was convicted of a crime, a corresponding letter was burned into the palm of the right hand; T for thief, M for murderer — you get the picture. Thus, when someone raised their right hand to take an oath, the court was forewarned about the character of the individual. We could expand this to jury selection and dispense with a lot of nonsense.

    4) It did come out, though I’m not sure if it was in court or elsewhere, that WOBO did in fact use Travis’s computer and phone to send messages to others, especially women, as if they were coming from Travis. She would send e-mails/texts to the effect of “I have decided to commit to Jodi.” “Jodi and I are getting ready to go to bed for unbelievable sex.” “Jodi is so beautiful, no other woman can compare.” and other, much more graphic examples. WOBO is so obvious in her writing style, it is always a dead giveaway she is behind all this bullshit. Just like the letters she had “mama” sign. The one to the Judge about Wurmi was written by WOBO. The other one, about the trial date, was actually written by the mother, and it is very poorly written; the person who wrote that letter is NOT the one who came up with “she has been exemplary.”

Does anyone disagree with that? I may dash out to see if I can easily find the phone log …. It may only be important as it pertains to whether she was “invited” or just appeared.

yep ok.. if you need to dash out to check the phone log.. do it!

    05/08/2013 at 1:39 pm

OK, I’m going to be a stick in the mud and call time out. I think this “let’s be the jury point by point” exercise is going to overwhelm this blog. I think it will also squeeze out the opportunity for someone who doesn’t care to participate in that activity but still wants to read and post comments about other things. Can someone perhaps start a “sister” blog just for this?

    • HJ Madison
      05/08/2013 at 1:43 pm

I am game for that … Schaeffer has a point. Can we do a goggle doc or something?

    05/08/2013 at 1:41 pm

Maybe a few minutes…to see if he will be home maybe…..??

ya she is on her way to the black zone.. not in it yet

  206. Jay
    05/08/2013 at 1:42 pm

You know this is an EXERCISE in FUTILITY, right?

Your mock trial is composed of a jury CONVINCED Arias is guilty. That means you’re interpreting the evidence from a guilty point of view.

In the jury room now if some of the jurors believe there’s reasonable doubt to some or all of the charges, they’re not going to care what time or when Arias dyed her hair. That juror is probably thinking: women change their hair color all the time, what’s the big deal she changed it prior to a trip to see her new boyfriend in Utah?

This is a common mistake trial watchers make: projecting their perceptions of the evidence onto a jury, some of whom may be perceiving the evidence from a different mind set.

    • 05/08/2013 at 1:45 pm

it’s an experiment.. because HJ wants to see what we can establish in the line of fact to reach a murder 1 verdict.. and this is the best way to do it and see if enough of us can agree. It’s not actually a simulation of the actual jury we know that.

  207. Janeto
    05/08/2013 at 1:45 pm

Ok. understood. Will bog down the blog and others from commenting..nice try though Syn. Was fun and consuming time though! 🙂

Not from this side of Canada

    • 05/08/2013 at 1:48 pm

that answer is obvious… but it was to step through to ascertain facts as set out by judge stephens

  209. Janeto

  214. 05/08/2013 at 1:50 pm

    I say M1.. premeditated

  215. 05/08/2013 at 1:51 pm

  217. HJ Madison

    HJ Madison :

This is where it started … I am concerned that others take the 1st sentance as literally as I do?

  218. MMD
    05/08/2013 at 1:51 pm

Plus Janet she was trespassing as she committed the murder because she was no longer welcome in the “structure” aka his home

  219. 05/08/2013 at 1:52 pm

well we got her nearly to the black zone. and if we agree WHY she changed her hair colour.. and WHY she wanted a red car not a white one.. and WHY she filled the gas cans.. we are done anyhow.. cos that’s premed right there and she isn’t in the black zone yet!

    • MMD
      05/08/2013 at 1:54 pm

exactly plus she has the gun

    • Katie

Right Syn! That was funny! 😆

  223. Janeto
    05/08/2013 at 1:55 pm

You know, with all the media circus throwing what they THINK the jury is doing, and if it’s taking longer means that it’s in Jodis’ favorite. But to me, maybe they are trying to get past whether it’s 1st degree premed WITH felony or without!!! Who knows????

  224. MMD
    05/08/2013 at 1:57 pm

Anybody who doesn’t have anything to lose, wouldn’t really care about the colour of the car. I know I wouldn’t. Now if I was off for some nefarious reason well then I’d want white or silver/grey

  225. 05/08/2013 at 1:58 pm

So if we can step through it that fast.. there has to be some sticking points in the jury room.. cos we all got to guilty really fast based on very basic facts submitted by the prosecution.. and we arent even in the black zone yet!!! We did not embellish in any way.. no remote.. no iffy complications.. just basic facts presented. HAS to be sticking points in that deliberation room.
