Joran van der Sloot – Natalee Holloway, Stephany Flores Ramirez – History Repeating Itself?

06/03/2010

I suppose it was only a matter of time and the similarities are eerily frightening.

Natalee

Exactly five years ago, May 30, 2005, 18-year-old high school student Natalee Holloway disappeared during a senior class trip to Aruba. She was last seen on video at a casino and leaving a bar with Joran van der Sloot.

Fast forward to Peru, May 30, 2010. Stephany Flores Ramirez was found dead in a hotel room registered in van der Sloot’s name. Police reports indicate Ramirez had been brutally stabbed and was found wrapped in a blanket in a pool of blood.

Video from a Lima casino shows Stephany leaving in the company of van der Sloot.

Stephany

Apparently van der Sloot was in Peru for a poker tournament.  The Miraflores district where the casino and hotel are located is where the rich gather to play and party.

van der Sloot

The two were seen by a hotel employee entering the hotel around 5 a.m. and approximately four hours later, van der Sloot left alone.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out van der Sloot is on the run! Interpol has confirmed that van der Sloot entered Chile and is possibly trying to cross into Argentina and a manhunt is currently underway.

As more information comes to light we will hopefully get a clearer picture of what happened in those early morning hours, but so many questions beg to be answered.

Where is van der Sloot getting the money to globe trot?  He is not employed and that brings up so many of the old rumors that he deals drugs and solicits young girls to engage in prostitution.

Criminal profiler, Pat Brown, feels he is an arrogant psychopath. I think he’s a sexual psychopath and I think he’s a serial date rapist who kills if somebody says no in the middle of raping them.

The similarities between Natalee and Stephany’s cases are striking. So how many young females has van der Sloot left in his wake?

Sadly, Natalee’s body has never been found, but Stephany’s has.  Will this be van der Sloot’s undoing?

Ironically, Aruban prosecutor Peter Blanken says that they will be contacting the Peruvian authorities to see if they can offer assistance.  After the bungling of the Holloway murder case, what possible ‘assistance’ could they provide?

A quick aside about Interpol…

Years ago I went on a group trip to Bermuda with about 15 couples.  Luggage claim was in a vast room and all luggage was lined up alphabetically in the main area.  You collected your luggage and then proceeded to Immigration.

Colored tape had been affixed to each suitcase, green, yellow, and red.  Green tape seemed to be the predominate marker, red being the oddity.

Our luggage was naturally red taped and we were moved to a different line in Immigration were we were asked to show ID, and questioned as to why we were there, how much currency we were carrying, we were asked to show or return airline tickets, etc, etc.  We were detained longer than the rest of our traveling companions.

Ok, I was young, naive and had never been out of the States, what did I know?

Later, when visiting a Bermudian friend-of-a-friend, I described what had happened at the airport.  Our host laughed and asked, “don’t you know what that was?”  He proceeded to explain the red tape and the area in Immigration we had been moved to, was the Interpol desk.  Seems our last name appeared on the Interpol list.

No, it wasn’t us they were looking for, but that many eons ago Interpol was pretty savvy about travelers!

So, congratulations Mr. van der Sloot!  You made it to the Interpol list and you better be watching over your shoulder.  It’s only a matter of time!

I just heard on CNN that he was alone in a taxi (I’m assuming there was a driver).

I hear Peruvian prisons are pretty brutal, among the worst of Latin America.

I hope Joran enjoys his stay in a nice, cozy, rat-infested prison in Peru. Even that is too kind for him!

Peruvian police have said she wasn’t just beaten and stabbed. Her neck was broken.

Tezi, there’s apparently lots of gangs and no commodes. You go in a hole in the ground.

This is so sad. Had Aruba done their job, he’d probably be in a nicer prison for the rest of her life and Stephany would be alive.

Well, from what I’ve read if it was coerced, it was done with his state appointed attorney as well as Dutch embassy people present!
